Canada is NOT a country and never was... it is a corporate entity registered in washington DC Cik number 08880 registered on teh security exchange commission as a corporation is is run in de facto corporate status There is no real government only employees you are held as a chattel for their corporate debt
According to Hoover's financial website Harper is the C.E.O. of the company called canada...
I know this chick. She used to be a stripper at The French Maid in Calgary. I think her name was April Flowers or something like that. She can prorogue my parliament anytime!
Maybe we should consider that perhaps the strengths that Harper has and the coalition doesn't have is unity. If Canadians were so anxious to get rid of Harper, it would have been easy. All they had to do is listen to Dion when he told Canadians that spreading your vote around the left will just keep Harper in power. But uniting the left doesn't seem to be what any of you want. This fact will always be Harper's strength and the left's downfall. Don't underestimate Harper, he'll pull through.
Who writes your scripts? The leftist conspiracy or you just some kind of naive idealist? I don't get you. The conservatives didn't 'shut down" parliament. They are preparing their budget which is what they are supposed to do and Harper has asked from imput from the other parties who Won't give it! because the coalition isn't about the betterment of the country - it's about power and control. Stop being so naive.
The problem is the Conservatives are obviously the largest single party but they can't win an outright majority. I think another election would give the same result again.
So the perfect leader to lead our country a week ago was Dion but now it's not? You ppl that STILL support to coalition are just stupid bc it's not a sensible alternative. I don't even know what the alternative is right now? Liberals? Liberal-NDP-Bloc? Liberal-NDP? Please get you ducks in roll first...or we will have Harper forever.... all the alternative/the bastardized coalition has shown is that they want power, at all cost, even against democracy but they have no organization or plan.
Another election under this messed up and unrepresentative first past the post system would not make us any wiser and waste 3,000,000 tax dollars - a lot more than what Harper wanted to deprive his enemies of. Why not let the coalition try to show us if they can be cooperative and statesmanlike? Percentage wise it represents Canadians better than the Conservatives (or any other single Party) - I', Green - so I'm not beng partisan in saying this.
what we need is electoral reorm and politicians listening to each other, co-operating and making appropriate compromise - that's the kind of statesmenship we haven't had in Canada - it's so sad we don't even recognize a good thing when we finally get it. Canadians need to be less complacent, cynical, and more involved. A coalition that works would be a challenge - give it a chance and let those MP's prove themselves.
almost 3/4 of Canadians voted for the MP's that would comprise this coalition - the only missing element is the Green Party - WE didn't vote for HARPER -
I very much agree with your fundamental argument in the middle of the video: that in theory a coalition enforces the need of compromise and cooperation.
And true said about the ending - "don't f--- this up."
Question for you karflooie: who did you actually vote for this past election? Who would you vote for if we had another election in '09? Who do you see as good leaders in Canadian politics?
Harper's agenda is to bankrupt the other parties - He couldn't wait to go for another non confidence vote to try and break them, so he tried to screw them by taking away the most important democratic reform we've had - proportional government funding. Other democracies have had this forever. It'sa win win for him and his CONS - take away the funding or run another election - only the CONS can afford it, and the vote goes down every time because of increasing cynicism...
The GG did what she had to do. Her first duty should be to follow the advice of the PM. Anything less may have been viewed as an attack on Canada's sovereignty, especially since Parliament was close to recess anyway. The onus for proroguing lies solely with the PM. I am concerned though, that an extension of UP TO A YEAR may be asked for. Harper has broken many recent promises (fixed election dates, no deficits, new cooperation), who knows if the HOC will actually resume in January.
The biggest mistake the 3 opposition parties made, was to sign a coalition pact before a confidence motion failed. According to Adrienne Clarkson's memoirs (and apparently constitutional convention) Parliament should sit for at least six months before another election is called. Had Harper lost a confidence vote, the opposition would have got an invitation to form a government from the GG almost automatically. The opposition would have been hailed as heroes for working together at that point.
I think the Govenor General should be democratically elected by the people.
This way the GG would have a mandate from the people on whether to prorogue or not, if Harper asks the GG to prorogue, the GG could say yes or no depending on what the people want.
Our GG did EXACTLY what she HAD to do. Parliament was getting too heated, they need to sit in the "penalty box" for awhile. I'm sure, come January when they're back in the house the government will be defeated, and then our GG will go to the coalition and say "Well boy's, you're up to bat, do what you can to save this last election." The coalition will last 2 weeks, and an election will be called around St. Valentine's day.
She did the right thing. He first priority is to make sure that Canada has a stable government. The coalition depends on support from a party that wants us to split as a country (btw, 38% of Quebecois voted BQ, BQ has 49 of 75 seats?). The coalition leader is stepping down in May and was rejected by his own party. The liberal party is having a leadership race which will place the most powerful coalition party in a state of civil war. Stability is certainly not what the coalition would offer.

I don't support the coalition (maybe I would be more comfortable with the idea of a coalition if Ignatieff were to lead it rather than Dion - and if Layton dropped dead) and i don't support Harper either. I just wish none of this ever happened. Anyway, to be honest, i'm not happy with any of the parties. We Canadians deserve so much better than these motherfuckers playing games in Ottawa during a time of economic uncertainty.
Ha ha ha. I don't agree with your ideals on this coalition, but I liked your video, especially the ending. :)
Unfortunately, I think it's too late. Dion has already shown he's not a leader and all the polls are going against him now. The longer Dion sticks around the deeper he'll dig the libs into the ground.
Dion might be weak as a leader, but I'll take him over the lying, democracy hating, power hungry, neo-con Straussian goon that is currently calling itself a Prime Minister. Harper just bent all of us over a table and drove one up our collective asses, and the retarded-right is applauding him for it.
Karflooie, keep up the great work. And thanks especially for the last four words, because I think they're going to be critical for these next 7 weeks with the Harper Hate Machine running full tilt to try to salvage the asshole's career.
If a minority government cared about their position would they not have secured the support of one other party to avoid being defeated in a vote of confidence?
in regards to your last 4 words...... my sentiments EXACTLY
"Don`t fuck this up"
harper does not seem to want to do to much for the economic storm, except to give the oil companies some money (in my opinion i don`t think they need a penny more than they got) But the coalition seems to want to give to much which could be just as bad as not doing anything. But i believe i should support the coalition. I don`t doubt that some sort of crash is about to happen, sooner or later.
Harper is a threat to Canada. The coalition must go ahead and crush these Reform Party clowns. I suggest everyone who is pissed about what Harper has done should go to the pro coalition rally in your city tonight. I will be taking my whole family to the rally in Vancouver tonight. Dump Harper now.
I was speechless and disappointed when I saw the headlines this afternoon. Harper has shut down parliament (with the consent of the governor general <- who's appointment no one had a say in) at a time when we need our parliament the most; he is a disgrace. Thanks for the video by the way, it's good to know there are sane people left in Canada :)

Minority government mean lessen and rule with the help of opposition , that's exaclty the opposit Harper did
So Harper did'nt respect the elector decision

Harper is an awesome Prime Minister, the best to lead our Nation!
briankeithellis360 3 years ago
Let's summarize:
- Harper tries to change party funding rules (just like the libs did to their advantage when they were in power!)
- other parties freak out because they don't have enough populous support to be self funded
- opposition parties form an unworkable coalition with a lame duck leader (Dion)
- things implode within days
- old buds Rae and Ignatieff make a back room deal
- Ignatieff now trying to convince Canadians that he's the man despite no experience and abandoning Canada for 27

You're just mad that your "coalition" (that NOBODY voted for) has lost its chance to grab power without consulting the Canadian voter.
For your coaliton to be legit, there would have to be an election - Conservatives vs. the coalition - and Canada would have to chooes the latter.
I think you know that Canadians aren't that stupid.
So stop being a hypocrite. Harper just stopped an assault on democracy.
Democracy = people decide gov't - NOT some last-minute spite-based coalition doing it.

Did YOU or ANYBODY vote for the coalition on October 14th? Nobody knew it would exist then...
More people voted for the Conservatives than any other party. That's kind of why they are the government.
Let the people decide. Not some cooked-up "coalition."
All the "coalition" has to do to slay my argument against them is to run against the Conservatives in an election, and win.
