  • Disney didn't make a "Journey to the Center of the Earth" movie. 20th Century Fox did.

  • yeah my dad worked at the park in main. and also did sound effects for the park. I know Bill Tracy did the original. It's sad this ride was demolished, i know there was a lot of work that needed to be done and also it was known as an eye sore to cedar fair!

  • love this....thanks!! i grew up 5 mins from Dorney & this was my favourite ride even with the rats in the water! There was a door halfway thru the ride on the right side and we used to jump out to freak the ride operators out. How mature we were!

  • The face is because this is from a TV show that aired on PBS and I taped it but I only put the segments about this ride on here and removed the part where it shows a guy talking, I wanted to splice the on ride scenes together without the guy talking in between, but it must have got a second of him on here.

  • What is with the random face at 0:40?

  • my dad stole the spider

  • This ride will always be in my heart.

  • haha there used to be a rock that fake fell and that was sick but it actualy fell on someone!

  • Does anyone know what happened to all the figurines in the displays of the ride? I can't imagine someone would throw this stuff away but I don't doubt it with CF! What about the monster that was on the top of the ride? Was this at least salvaged?

  • The inside of this ride stank so much. There was definitely a mold and mildew issue going on. This is probably one reason its no longer there

  • Why did you remove your comment? Your dad really put the sound effects in for this ride? I though the original sounds were put in by Bill Tracy in 1960 when he renovated the Mill Chute into the Journey that we all knew. There are quite a few articles online about the late Bill Tracy (passed Aug 1974) and his former company. laffinthedark, etc. Ocean City MD Haunted House ochh net. They put a new haunted house attraction last year in this location where the back and lift hill of Journey was.

  • @rwk360 Yes RWK360, Tracy indeed made all those sound effects in his NJ shop and later with Damon & Mesmore shortly before his untimely death.

  • This is why I hate Cedar Fair.

    They killed great rides:

Kingdom of the Dinosaurs (Knotts berry farm)

Journey to the Center of the Earth (Dorney park)

    The haunted House (forgot where)

They tear down cherished rides to make room for bad ones. Thats why I hate Cedar fair

  • @BrickstarRunner dont forget hercules at dorney park

  • Thanks for posting this! I am from Allentown too and this was my favorite ride as a kid. I also saw your comments on Wildwood NJ videos, our family goes there every summer too. Good stuff!

  • I lived in bethlehem for the first ten years of my life and used to love this ride at dorney! Other good ones were bucket of blood, gold mine shaft, the ice burg and the sea dragon that burnt down in the early 80's

  • Didn't the new park owners burn it down so they could get more modern rides?????????????? And then blame it on a freak fire>.......Hmmm

  • I believe you have confused "conspiracy" with arson.

  • then which was it, arson or conspiracy????

Arson from the new owners is what I believe the truth. Enlighten me on your answer........

  • It was arson.

  • Too bad it's gone now, it looks like it would have been another great Tracy dark ride. BTW at 0:36-0:40 you can see the waterwheel.

  • Want to ride a similar ride? Go to Rye Playland, NY. They have an Old Mill. And Lanzig, it was my favorite, too along with the other defunct spook rides, Gold Mine, Bucket O' Blood. I've been going to DP since 1976 at 2 years old. I'm looking forward to the new Haunt this year, and Club Blood, the new indoor haunt by White Water Landing to be constructed soon. I still live with my mom 2 miles west of the park.

  • I still occasionally have dreams where I'm on a ride very similar to JttCotE . . . except everything inside is real! hehe . . . I loved and miss this ride. Thanks for posting!

  • A very special thank you to the person who posted this video!!! I use to love this ride when I was a kid! This brings back some great memories.

  • Hell, yeah!

  • I can't believe no one mentioned how bad it stank. It was always musty and smelled like mold. I never figured out if it was intentional or not, lol

  • Yea, it was horrible! But I loved this ride anyway!!!

  • this ride sucks.

  • I remember this! It was one of the best. I rode it every year until they took it out. Thanks for posting!

  • This was the best ride at Dorney in my opinion. How many remember the "gum wall"??? Rounding that first corner inside Journey we'd all stick our gum on the wall...If you watch the video closely, you can see quick glimpse of it!

  • hahaha I forgot about that!!! I honestly haven't thought about that in 15 years!

  • There's a nice night shot of this ride at tunnel of laffs. org

  • Here's a little known fact on this ride-if you go to ridezone website to the past rides of Dorney Park you will notice the front sign below the dragon is different-that picture was taken 1987 or 1988. And on the article on laff in the dark on this ride, older pictures from the 70's/early 80's show yet another sign probably the original 1960 Bill Tracy one. The sign on this video was most likely from 1990.

  • thanks!!! I went on this once as a kid and was heartbroken to find out the next season I went back that it was tore down

  • I got to go on this a few times as a kid, still remember it with fond memories. Some of these rides really shaped (read warped) my tastes later on.

  • Thank you for the comments. This was one of my favorite rides as a kid/teen in the 1980's. The inside was supposed to be caves, with scary scenes behind plexiglass on the left side. I have a set of 11 photos of this showing the front, the inside tunnel, and the lift and drop. DP once had a great collection of Bill Tracy dark rides but Cedar Fair got rid of rest of them. Some burned. The closest ride to this would be the Old Mill at Rye Playland, NY.

  • @rwk360 As a Darkride afficianado I'd first tell you i'd love to see those photo's of the inside Tracy stunts. He was the pinicle of the spooky house experience and very few of his original 1960's-early 1970's house still exsist. We lost quite a few just in the last 5 years including a couple of Whacky Shacks and Pirate Dens. Those photos are worth big coin=do yourself a favor and copywrite them...I say there worth $250-$750 each depending on the shot. Thanks again for posting!

  • What was the inside supposed to be?

  • Whom ever poated this, Thank You for yor generous offering! Another great Tracey dark ride that, unfortunately, is no longer with us.

  • Robert F. Ott, former worker/owner of Dorney Park between 1936-May 1985, passed away Mar. 3rd. He was promoted to president and general manager in 1967 following Robert L. Plarr's and his son Stephen's passing. He was elevated to chairman of the board in 1980, and retired in May 1985. He was married to Sally Plarr Ott who passed Feb. 14. They were living in Luther Crest retirement home behind Kmart for the past few years. He wrote the Dorney Park history book with Wally Ely.

  • oh wow i miss this ride more then anything at dorneypark. i also miss the bumper cars near thunderhawk they took down. then they took down medorite which was a amazeing ride with disco lights and it had air conditioning. i really wish dorney could of kept those rides

  • man i miss this ride!! this and the ride that was kinda like a teacup ride on the moon with disco lights and music. i cant remember what the ride was called. but those 2 where my all time fave rides when i was a little kid!!

  • You're thinking of the Iceberg. It was one of the coolest rides at Dorney, both figurative and literally. Whenever it was stinking hot, everyone tried to get into the iceberg because inside it was always cool inside

  • I went on this as a child and i thought it was really scary, but as the ride and i got older it became really lame. i wish there were more old pictures of Dorney park. what a great place it was and still is. Anyone remember the sad little zoo they had near the whale boats and the train?

  • THANKS for posting this, I remember the ride and your the only post on the internet i think. I wish the entire ride was taped, I remember the trolls as you rode through at one point saying, " I smell humans! or I smell stinky humans!", it was funny. I also remember the video game ride where you are riding up and down and trying to shoot down the other people. Also the snowman ride, a spinning ride in a pitch black room. I miss those rides.

  • I edited the video from a TV show I taped. There were guys talking in between segments.

  • I miss this ride, they took it out when they re did the Thunderhawk :(

  • Woh, never jknew this was a darkride! I thought it was ur typical log flume that goes in a cave for 4 seconds.

  • What's with the picture of the guy that flashes before the ride climps the belt? Does anybody else see that?

  • I rode this many times. Decent ride but not as good as Castle Dracula's Dungeon Boat Ride. The walk through mine shaft bill tracy attraction at Dorney was more fun then this Center of the Earth IMOP. That walk through had simmilar tricks as Pirate Ship Suka.

  • I remember this ride.. I miss it:(

  • I thought DisneySea's version was not a good adaptation of Journey. But this sucks!!!

  • Wow..I remember going on that as a kid...cool

  • That is amazing! I wish I could of gotten on that!

  • Omg I Rememner That!!!
