Think about it correctly, this is a smart metaphore afterall. Internet networks are not organized. When you send a message on the network, it gets divided into small chunks and each one takes a different path. But why a tube? Because the content is yet not "dumped", it still has structure. The content takes paths to reach the viewers. It doesn't mean more than that!
