If only Mississippi State had beaten Syracuse in the other semi-final game. Kentucky would have had a chance to avenge their only two loses of the year, which they did in this game by beating UMass, and they had lost to Mississippi State in the SEC tournament final.

The first game of the season against Kentucky was probably one of UMASS easiest victories of the season. Winning one, and losing one, doesnt make you the better team. When two good teams play each other in a season, chances are they are going to split. Thats the way it is. Kentucky was just lucky enough to win theirs in the tournament.

Miss St only beat UK once that year, the other game UK won 74-56. UK only other loss that year was to UMASS in the second game of the year.

UK beat MSU in January of 96. UK only lost to MSU one time. I don't see how anyone could argue that this wasn't one of the top 2 greatest teams of all time. UK had 10 future NBA players on that team.

They didn't have "overall" seeds back then. That didn't change until a few years ago to ensure that this type of thing never happens again, where you had two 1 seeds in one semifinal and a 4 vs a 5 in the other.

Please, do your homework. MSU did not beat UK twice. Kentucky lost to UMass early in the year and then didn't lose again til the SEC conference title game. They only lost 2 games the entire year.

They scored 86 points in the first half of a game at LSU. They had the best press defense ever.
