  • What a remarkable performance, what a sweet, powerful, magical voice. And what a gift he was to all of us who love this music.

  • EL MAS GRANDE!!

  • After about 5 minutes of thought... I had nothing to say. My mouth just hung open......

    wow.. just wow...

  • Brings tears to my eyes every time. :)

  • Grazie !!!

  • Jussi Björling.

  • This is great, but I still think Jussi Bjoerling is the greatest Rodolf

    o of all time.

  • @vivadomingo1

I love both Pavarotti and Bjorling! I can't make up my mind who I like better and I am just happy that I can hear both of their recordings.

  • il MASSIMO!!!!

  • Don't be upset at the fools who say they hate someone but go out of their way to post comments on his videos. Rats say a lion's whiskers are too long. Bravo Luciano.

  • @ArrigoPola Jose Carreras was another singer who chose to go the route of di Stefano and sing his voice out at an early age. What a waste, it was a beautiful instrument.

  • This is one of the best ever performances of this devine aria by any tenor. An absolute beauty!

    Pavarotti in all his glory.

    No words suffice....

  • It's impossible to hear this aria and not think of Pavarotti.

  • The best!!

  • Haha definitly

  • Indeed they are there. Right in the beginning of the high note, then he straitens them out.

  • I only heard one. Even still, I can give him a few mistakes, after all, this guys career spanned over 40 years and has one of the most beautiful tenor voices in the world.

  • I have said this before. I saw him at the Lyric Opera in Chicago in I think 1973?? I remember thinking this new tenor is going to suck. Very wrong. I bought the recording the next day. I had to go to six places to find it, starting a lifetime seeing him at the Auditorium Theater to the last time in Rosemont.

  • One of Pavarotti's greatest roles, it could have been composed for him. Absolute perfection.

  • Utterly brilliant - what a free open relaxed focussed and elegant tone! Just wish there was a video to go with it!!! And is that Freni in the photograph?

  • That is indeed the beautiful Mirella Freni.

That is actually a live concert performance of La boheme.

That picture is a still from a video from 1965 - which is still yet to surface in its entirety.

  • That's complete rubbish.

  • While di Stefano had perhaps the most ideal voice for Rodolfo, and sang (in my opinion) the best overall rendition for the role, you are being extremely close minded when you suggest that he was the 'only real Rodolfo' as you put it. Can't you appreciate others who excelled in this role as well? For example, Pavarotti, who from the early 60s on had no equal in this repertoire?

  • No passion? No wonderful accents? You must not be listening. I would tend to agree he lost some feeling in his later years, but he was in his decline. Putting "feeling" into singing takes more effort, something you may not be able to do as easily as you once did. It's the natural way of things.

  • can all of u fags just stfu !

gud !! im trying to listen here.

    ssshhhh....

  • @maseratiquattroport Then why use the word "fags"? If you weren't trying to draw attention to yourself, why would you post hate speech on a video of Che gelida manina?

  • The comments section of this video is very sad indeed.

  • Fabriou-No shit Sherlock!

  • @fabriou Only good comment here. Di Stefano was much better than Pavarotti. Don't tell it to the Pavarotti nuts though.

  • Thanks for posting this version. A great rendition while still in his vocal prime. Or maybe his 1st prime?:)

  • I agree, never heard a singer with legato superior Pavarotti's.

  • Ohhhh, it's so beautiful... I love it. Thank so much.

  • WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU LUCIANO...thanks!

  • i can't tell the difference between one singer and another singer

  • ...Well surely you can tell the difference between a female and a male voice. And all voices are very different.

  • I'm sorry, but i can't tell the difference between the singers

  • What do you mean?

  • I'm not sure if you realize this aria is only sung by one person, a male, named Luciano Pavarotti. There is only one singer. Wow.

  • breathtaking...i can't thank you enough Mooorhe and GermanOpera Singer for your beautiful postings of all these legends of opera but above all of the one and only PAVAROTTI...

  • One of the best of this single aria I've ever heard. Better than the 1972 performance I posted. Bravo Luciano, and may you rest in peace. I can't believe it has already been a whole year since your passing.

  • @GermanOperaSinger

Disagreed, I like your posting much much better. Say Hi to your mom for me btw. Ciao
