  • My mom just used cheap store brand biscuits. She just pinched off small pieces and threw them in the broth until they float to the top. I 'm gonna try the second one, but I'm not waiting 8 hours on that first recipe. No sir!

  • I like the fluffy type made with Bisquick.

  • These look great, but are nothing like the chicken and dumplings I've had. The kind I'm used to are practically biscuits in a casserole type dish. The first is practically chicken noodle soup and the second, well, those just look good. I'll have to give them a try.

  • He didn't say how much PSI in the pressure cooker...

  • how do i hug myself?

  • I know just how alton feels. even though i am not married, i know how it feels to be between fueding sides of the family.

  • Alton has the most badass elevator.

  • his mom's looks more like chiken and dumplins!

  • his mother in laws one looks nasty!

  • pressure cookers scare me

  • You know, I thought he was exaggerating about the way people fight over food, but looking at Youtube comments, it's really true.

Either way, I made momma's chicken and dumplings and they were delicious.

  • isnt that just chicken noodle soup? without the vegetable.

  • @Arkenarge the mother in laws recpipe -- basically..

  • how did he get that thermometer to say 252 degrees F '2000' ft down?

  • I don't know what those were... but they were not dumplings

  • @MysticKnight38 Dumplings come in all shapes...those were dumplings.

  • what about potsticker dumplings?

  • @Shearper2 What about them? There's no dish called "chicken and potstickers", to my knowledge. The show was about chicken and dumplings, not about all dumplings in their many forms. I know he has at least 2 shows devoted to those sorts of dumplings, though.

  • Have no hand mixer but still made the fluffy version. Now I have a tired right forearm, and a slightly crooked whisk. Please use the hand mixer unless you are looking for a workout.

  • He just made chicken pate a choux..

  • i would be very surprised if Rio de Janeiro actually was a standard atmospheric day in my lifetime. I'm a total chem nerd.

  • the puppets kinda remind me of Tender and Flaky in the pie episodes =P ^^

  • i still have a jigglier pressure cooker : (

  • @jsmith0433

I have a pressure cooker/canner that uses a jiggler weight and love it.

  • to start over press select

  • Why spend 8 hours on the mother in law version when cooked egg noodles taste just as good? And I wonder why there's no veggies or herbs and spices. Chicken stock needs more than just chicken, water and salt. Maybe some giblets in the stock too.

  • @fowlkesbrian You have obviously never made your gradma's chicken and dumplings. You'd be amazed how much flavor there is in just chicken water, salt pepper and flour. Try it!

  • @agoodlysize My grandma's chicken and dumplings has cream of chicken in it. Just like casseroles of that era have cream of mushroom in them.

And it's still the best chicken and dumplings I've ever tasted. Though I am going to try making the pillowy version of the dumplings, because it sounds like it takes less time, and they look cool.

  • @agoodlysize ...lol...the worst video on chicky -n - dumps i've ever seen...the second version might as well have been campbells chicken noodle soup and just boil some some frozen gnocchi's in them...LOL....

  • @agoodlysize yup. i can throw together awesome dumplings in no time doing just that.

  • @fowlkesbrian He's not trying to make chicken stock, just chicken broth. There's a difference. And egg noodles aren't the same as dumplings, regardless of taste.

  • @fowlkesbrian Because he's making Chicken and dumplings. Chicken "water" made with veggies is a stock. Add egg noodles to it and congratulations, you've made Chicken & Noodle soup. He's not making soup, he's making chicken and dumplings where, get this, the focus of the dish is the chicken and the dumplings and not the broth/stock/chicken water as it is in soup.

  • @fowlkesbrian Stock is used in with bones vegetables and herbs. Broth however is meat (and bones) cooked in just salted water. Alton was making broth which needs no vegetables in it if he doesn't want any.

  • i think mother in law's chicken and dumplings should be called chicken noodle soup, and mother's chicken and dumplings are actually chicken and dumplings, oh well just my opinion.

  • 101.33 kPa = 760 mmHG = 760 torr = 103.33 x10^5 Pa = 1 atm

Chemistry.. pressure unit.. *shivers in fear*

  • 6:32 dang that was pillow sounded like mike tyson was the one swinging it.

  • heh guess im not the first to pour half the peppershaker's pepper into their chicken soup..

    inlaws x.x

  • my moms chicken and dumplings are more like big biscuits floating on a thickened chicken soup they are baked in the oven and they are good

  • @fae430 Mine's the exact same way. IMO, the best way to make them.

  • Hmm, I thought for americans, dumplings were the same as potstickers.

  • @maverickmage i thought the same thing. go figure.

  • @maverickmage Or...asians.
