  • Honestly, one of my favorite songs. Definitely the most beautiful. So full of emotions...And such a beautiful voice, that Loreena McKennitt, as you all said, and as I've probably said a lot of times.

I like having it stuck in my head!

    The thundering waves

    Are calling me home

    Unto you...

  • guitar riffs in the background, amazing combinations of other instruments, beautiful voice. No words can describe this....

  • beautiful instrumental intro. some songs have an amazing intro but then u get disappointed as soon as the singing starts but this 1 she maintains the standard and that's a really special find

  • This song makes me cry D=

  • head 2 head with old classics !

  • my heart is free

  • i will play only her music on March 17th to counter celebrate that so-called holiday.

  • a very moving song, beautifully sung.

  • What about Jewel? She would make a good duet I think. Although, it is a hard decision, they are both amazing in their own right. :)

  • This song helped me realise that no matter who you are, who you came from, you are beautiful, and so is everything else in this world. I figured that out then cried for a while, this song is honestly beautiful. All the blessings to you Loreena xxx

  • today i reall;y feel numb this song is me all day and i feel icant gio on i cry

  • she's divine

  • While I love both versions the one from "The Nights of Alhambra" always makes my heart stutter.

  • This is my favorite song by Loreena McKennitt

  • This just may be the most beautiful song of all time. The music takes command of the mind and Loreena McKennitt's voice takes command of the soul.

  • 10 people don't know good music when it's right in front of their face.

    Thank you for uploading.

    ~)O( Brightest Blessings )O(~

  • I love this song. reminds me of the sea. THE POUNDING SEA IS CALLING ME HOME. I like snow but also that :)

  • There are two versions of this song: one from album "The Visit" and the other from "The nights of Alhambra"

  • @98abbygail, my school is like that. Im mexican not american btw. people just dont have respect for music like this

  • this makes me feel like hanging out of a helicopter with a camera and flying all over the world!

  • Is it a bad thing to say that I prefer the live version of this song over the album one? o_o

  • @DarkAngelInuyasha Not at all, I prefer the live version too.

  • As a black man, I like to experience music. Music like this makes me feel like a warrior.

  • @GTpanik

What music has to do with your ethnicity? -.0

  • @GTpanik (:. All the African Americans in my school only like rap, they say its the only thing they can listen to. Lol. I'm glad ur not like them(:

  • one of the best voives I have ever heard absolutely beautiful what else can i say

  • The voice of goddess......

  • I never understand why everyone has to get into deep debates about religion on songs like this. I just like to enjoy the sheer beauty and overall epicness of Loreena McKennitt... God damn she has the voice of a goddess.

  • @MaidOfInnail I know. I'm always like, "What the hell? Why is everyone so bent on fighting about religion and/or converting people???"

    -Live and let live, guys.

  • @MaidOfInnail Well the title is named "The Old Ways." So I understand lol.

  • Not really. Old ways does not mean odl ways in terms of religion neccesarilly. If you lsiten to the lyrics it ahs ntohing to do with it. The religiosu debagte is about lroeens themes coming from celtic pagan religion. Which churh bastards dont approve of that is all.

  • energy is niether created or destroyed.

  • I simply find it sad that those of faith cannot simply be so secure in their faith that they feel no need to argue with others.

I love this song. It's wonderful and brilliant.

  • @fallingapartforyou kudos on this intelligent comment! ditto from my part.

  • I despise RELIGION. I adore spirituality. and the love kindness and compassion so rare between two people. no fights please, no arguments on points of theology or symantics, or what one believes or what is right or wrong. just respect and love that someone is looking for the creator. that life and respect for that life is precious. no matter what body it comes in or what form it takes.

  • it kind of bothers me that people say that oldies and classic rock is the most talented music ever and no music today can compare. Well in my honest opinion people need to dig deeper, because loreena mckennit blows the classic rock and oldies clear out of the water!

  • religion-war...........plz listen to your hearts, the only reason why we life and think is LOVE,jiiiihaaa feel the love !!!!

  • A Pagan sees the Goddess in everything and then the god.

  • pagan_ is from Latin meaning "Rustic" ,or farmer. and eventually uneducated country folk, anyone who didn't believe what they believed. sorry i just don't think it had the meaning you guys think it is, i just remember it meant farmer, so i looked it up. Sorry again for stupid comment.Celts seen God in everything_thats not pagan.

  • @NOTgarycoleman but you r a not just a raciest, your a genetic defect, a load your mother should have swallowed...

  • the voice of an angel thats all there is to it if you dont like it dont listen

  • @musikfan406 you are an absolute hero for brining that up, best thing ive ever seen on TV.

  • I'm pagan to I love her so much

  • her songs always inspire me....

  • Wickedly excellent.

  • saw her in concert at the universal amplitheator. brilliant and all her band. awesome. its been ten years but still the best cosncert ive ever been to

  • She's an amazing singer

  • I wonder what a duet with her and Sarah McLachlan would sound like ....?

  • @lionofct probably like god himself was singing to you ^^

  • @lionofct

    O_O It'd be so amazing...

  • @lionofct, like two beautiful sirens lulling the ships into the rocks with the most soothing and ethereal voices in all of your wildest dreams.

  • @lionofct It would open the gates to Heaven, simple.

  • @lionofct I chilled only by reading your comment..!

  • @lionofct OMG! That should be the next Facebook proposition (like they did with Betty White hosting SNL) - I bet the two of them would be positively fantastic AND enchanting.

  • @lionofct - I've wondered the same thing for -years-.... Maybe we should get a petition going? Heheheh... It's a thought.

  • @lionofct Lovely! I wonder what it would sound like if Loreena, Sarah McLachlan and Enya got together.....and Chloe Agnew, just for her voice. A quartet of angels :)

  • @SilaVendethiel AND HAYLEY WESTENRA

  • @lionofct We'd probably all go mad from the incomprehensible beauty of it :D (I'm also a huge Sarah fan)

  • @lionofct How about her, Lisa Gerrard and maybe Hans Zimmer into the mix...!

  • @lionofct Sarah MchLachlan is great in her own way, but cannot begin to compete with Loreena.. I think a duet would sound a little bit off tune..

  • @lionofct That would be a dream come true!!

  • @lionofct It would sound absolutely BITCHING!!! =D I love them both!! And Enya!! HELL ALL THREE WOULD BE A GREAT SHOW!! =D

  • @tweethang1 They should start a supergroup!!!

  • @lionofct WOW! it needs to happen, ow can we encourage this event?

  • @lionofct oh yeah... u r a refined soul.

  • @lionofct I'm a big fan of both. It would be definitely out of the world !!!

  • Je pourrais l'écouté des milliers de fois je ne m'en lasse pas la musique plus la voix un vrai délice love Eire, Alba

  • clannad

  • She sings like goddess herself. To listen her is like falling into dreams and finding the old ways. What a wonderful voice!

  • oh look! 8 ppl got so choked over her wonderful voice they hit DISLIKE by accident!

  • They should have put some of her music into the new Guardians of Ga'Hoole movie. I just got back from watching it and all I want to do is listen to Loreena McKennitt :)

  • I simply love her voice. It's an angel in the guise of a human singing to us. At least we of different faiths can agree that she has a beautiful voice.

  • beautiful song... love it! ...and still love him...

  • There are always discussions about religions when it comes to this kind of music.. It used to bother me, but I managed to just ignore it, ´cause it screws up the music.

  • watch this remix of Loreena Mckennit Old Ways !

    /watch?v=uXiv62O1egI

  • "suddenly i knew..that you had to go..Your world was not mine.. your eyes told me so"

this part of the lyrics make me infinitely sad

She is in my eyes an even great and sometimes even greater singer than celine dion but undeservedly more unknown

  • @Raylor1974 if she was more known, it wouldn't be as special. Plus.. she hardly performs live for a reason. She is a very special person.

  • vraiment une superbe chanson qui donne des frisson

  • I want say the artists that play the music help make the music what it is ...thank you Loreena and the musicians for making such wonderful music!!

  • Just stole all of my mom's Loreena McKennitt CDs! MWAHAHAHAHA!

  • @555KnotFan666 Lolz, Me too i love her i used to listen to her when i was like 3

  • @555KnotFan666 Cause I don't have the money right now. lol.

  • @555KnotFan666 Yeahh me too! XDD

  • @555KnotFan666 let me join you and steal my moms too!!!

  • @XmortdreadX Come to the dark side ;)

  • @555KnotFan666 lol!

  • @555KnotFan666 i did the same thing! with many of her cd's XD

  • "The olde ways are lost" you sang as you flew. It's true, in the olden days people would spend their entire lives training in a single profession, making barrels of playing the violin, and now everyone has the Internet, or various other changes, and people don't have the same kind of skill. It's the difference that applies on a mystical level, and someday the ancient ways will truly be lost, and we Ancients shall be no more. Ah, well, such is life.

  • @ViewWatchGori19 its not ah well.. ancient ways can be preserved if we all want to.... or dedicate to it

  • I don't agree. There is an ensurgence of people coming back to the olde ways. Wicca is now the fastest growing religion.

  • Loreena Mckennitt is without a doubt not only my favorite singer, but also a huge inspiration.

  • FUCKING GOGGLE !!!

  • TRE BELLE TA MUSIQUE

  • if you people get it, its not about faith it about music dah:)

  • As you turned to go I heard you call my name.

You were like a bird in a cage, spreading its

    Wings to fly

"The old ways are lost" you sang as you flew

    And I wondered why.

    :)

  • everybody can believe what he wants, but i would say, that its not important for listening to this really beautiful song

    she is a great singer!

  • chist, the quality and richness of her vocals are overwhelming!

  • Ah, so pretty.

  • :) beautyfull

  • Her voice is absolutely magical in every way.

  • this is the song that made me fall in love with

  • stop the religous speak.....she writes about various influences...she also mentions "Our Lord" in her tunes, many times..

  • @ThePaulh007 "Stop the religious speak" shouldn't be followed up with religious speak...but whatever.

  • @ThePaulh007 Odin is known as the lord of poetry and inspiration. Odin is also the true historical god of the white race. Even if by "our lord" she's referring to the Jewish god Jesus Christ I still like to think of her singing "Our Lord" as referring to Odin.

  • @JenkemMagicalBanana

This is not Norse Pagan its Celtic Polytheism (Paganism) which is still heavily celebrated by the heavily Celtic Pagan influenced Hindus of India to this day when our peoples mixed (hence many persians and indians have aryan features and culture, also where much of Celtic ancestoral heritage comes from, were a true multicultural people, unlike the force multiculuralism and indoctrination of the west today and its self-destructiveness)

Odin has no place here, Viking savages.

  • @phr34kyy ODIN!

    lol couldn't resist.

All Father Odin is welcome anywhere. ;)

  • @BelleNex by Thor, I say thee yea ! ^_^

  • @schwarzfalk by Loki i say

  • Wiccans also refer to their God as "Our Lord"...doesn't mean she's a christian and doesn't mean she's a pagan. She is speaking of a higher power. I've never seen anywhere that she has chosen any certain faith.

  • Loreena McKennitt Awesome voice !

  • Thank you @Cinthiaholy! Cheers =)

  • One of her bests!

  • The words in a song give it an extra dimension, irrespective of the topic...(else she might as well be humming away, if you only want to listen to her voice...!) I love the song as a whole...could you give us the lyrics please AJ?

  • Simply captivating. Compelling.

  • I can see the waves rolling against the bow of a viking ship when I listen to this

  • Utterly breathtaking...this reminds me of those days as a child when I use to run through the woods in my parent's backyard, here in the Bluegrass. Those days when there were no worries and life was abundantly cheerful. This song makes me want to climb to the top of a enormous hill and bask in the high winds!

Thank you for posting this, it is wonderful:)

  • Visions of oceans of nectar

the pounding heart aye the pounding sea

    of liquid kindness of luminosity

    pristine cognizance coastline alpha waves

    Consort of nonduality beyonding beyondlings

    benefiting the preciousness of life

no harm to others - all beings mothers.

  • I actually once loved someone but our relationship actually mirrors this song. Especially:

Suddenly I knew that you'd have to go

Your world was not mine, your eyes told me so

Yet it was there I felt the crossroads of time

    And I wondered why.

  • gorgeous sad

  • Thank you for watching your Channel with Loreena McKennitt, Deva Premal, Snatam Kaur & others.

  • just bumped into this by accident. i like her voice.

  • This song is the most heart breaking thing I ever heard

  • I know I'm going to get a LOT of thumbs down for this, but I prefer this when she sings it live.

It just shows that she's a true artist though. It sounds great on CD but even better live. Only true artists can do that.

  • in Germany we say: wherever people are singing, there you can stay, for bad people have no songs/are not able to sing...

  • @thedeadscientist

    Nie gehört oO

  • @thedeadscientist too true!

Or you could just say it the way they do in Elf:

"The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear". And you can just drop the 'Christmas' part... music can make you happy no matter who you are or where you come from. Ms. McKennitt is a master for sure!

  • I love her voice, according to me, she´s the best singer, her music is wondefull.

  • I've loved this song for a long time. It distresses me that a minor religious fracas is entering the discussion. It's poetry, and "the old ways" could mean any number of things. For those into the old religion, however, I would recommend the "Sister Fidelma" novels by Peter Tremayne. Eye opening!

  • epica, indimenticabile, scolpita nella roccia

  • she has the spirit of the earth in her voice and a magic personna that transcends all religion and belief she will open your soul to your self and may help remake the nations hoop

  • i love the lyrics :)

  • I find this music very spiritual

  • This song has healed my life into knowing who I really am~ Mary Moses

  • Haunting... am impressed.

  • Her religion matters not, it's her gift that she's sharing with us all is what matters. Her music makes me SOOOO happy and relaxed. I'm Pagan but I'm accepting of all faiths as long as they don't insult me : )

  • @LadyOfTheFae so true

  • @LadyOfTheFae if your the sister you claim to be then you'd know that she is a verry proud pagan who sings of stories of her home land...

  • @icelandpolarbear Claim to be? Sweetie I am Pagan. You don't know me, so don't try to act like you do. ;) Her religion has been a debate for a long time. Her music has Pagan leanings, but she sounds to be like a open minded spiritual person, I don't believe she has picked a faith. I could be wrong but I have found no evidence of her declaring herself to be anything.
