@jonahfox Applying to the JET Program was a complete waste of my time. Getting accepted into the program (or job) is impossible. Admissions staff is harsh, in that they make you wait at least a year, for absolutely nothing. To those who are interested in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, I highly suggest applying to EPIK, GEPIK, and/or TALK instead of JET. They have easier admissions, are government-sponsored, and you would not have to wait a year to get a response.
It is true when former JETs say, "Your experience is what you make of it."
From my 10 month experience, I had the same mentality going in. I made the best of maggots flying out of my bathtub everyday, literally living 10 ft. from the city dump yard & smell trash every morning before my 8 mile bike/bus/boat/walk hike to teach kids who would push their fingers up my ass. This was until the "human" side of me decided I didn't want the next JET to simply "Make the best of their experience."
Looks like you had a terrible time...
