side crash testing is a false testament to true safety, to start with the front of any car isn't flat with a high flat surface area. A car under brakes squats low therefore the impact is lower and aimed more so towards the opposing drivers waist. A curtain airbag might only protect the head but thats ok if your whole body is crushed beyond recognition. You buy a small car to save on fuel while others buy suv's to feel safer when they run into you whilst using more fuel. Feeling safe now?

i have a Camry 06 and a Merc w210 e320 2001, both are lovely cars.

For my own psychological reason i feel more safe in a Merc, i think Camry suspension is tooo old and needs a lot of renovation.

Steelcity, The car in the test is an Australian Toyota Camry. In Malaysia the car you know as a Camry is called an Aurion in Australia. It is slightly bigger and has a six cylinder engine, whereas the Camry is only available as a four here. I agree the Aurion has a much cleaner back end in my opinion, but I prefer our Camry's front.

I own an '07 camry and a '03 bmw 530i, they are totally different cars but both are amazing. Carmy is quiet and dependable, BMW is just as quiet, much faster and amazing fun. The thing I hate is how people treat you just because you have a BMW. Why does everybody think a BMW is the equivalent to a supercar? It's no big deal.

it probably only got 4 stars because in the european model has no standard airbags which brought the rating down but in the United States the Camry has a 5 star NHTSA rating and a good rating for the insurance institute of highway safety.

I'm sorry to say I have one of these boring Toyota camrys. I hate it when I am at a red light and there is 2 or 3 other camrys at the same red light. Or even worst when I come out of a mall in the parking lot and I have to find my camry in a sea of 20 to 30 other camrys. Yes it is a good car, but man it is BORING!

I guess it's a matter of opinion, but i don't find them to be too boring, but then again they're not the coolest looking car around. However they are much better cars than pretty much all the cars of the same class, and i think that is more important than how boring they are.

this is not our typical IIHS crash test. it's the ancap, which is probably the reason why it only got a 4-star frontal rating

The Honda did not crash better, it has a smaller crush zone so it was stopped much faster (in about 2.5 seconds vs 4 seconds for camry). Faster stop means you take the innertia difference. But both offer the best protection you can get in a car of that class. To be safer, you have to drive an SUV, check out the 4x4 vs Civic crash test! Crash Test 4x4 vs. Honda Civic.

Not bad. I'd say an 8.5/10. But check out the Honda Civic sedan 2006 crash test. It did better. But Toyotas are along the best cars in the world.
