  • One lady who didn't sell her soul and got out of the industry before it turned her inside out.....

    Angel is a klassic!!!!

  • Love me some Stacy. Her and Teena Marie were my favorites in the 80's. Wish Stacy would come back knocking hard in the pop industry. I know she is doing gospel but hell she blew half these ladies today right out of the water. Her and Teena Marie were so underated in the industry!! Love you stacy RIP Teena Marie!!!!

  • Oh wow- she should be about 45 years old now-that is crazzzzy--where is the story about her-I'd love to see it.

  • WOW I remember this, thanks for posting.

  • Aww. She's so sweet.

She reminds me of one of my old friends.

  • they both look ridiculous..but hey that was the time ..its all good...

  • Looks like pleather

  • @songbird249 Haha! People here don't know what that is! That was a great fad! I had a pleather jacket that I was proud of.

  • How old is she now, early 40's?

  • @DA90027 Yes. You can hear a recent (last month) interview I did with her here on my channel, as well. She has an autobiography coming out at the end of this month! Wonderful lady.

  • @DA90027 44, as of November 25.

  • Comment removed

  • @DA90027 She will be 45 on 25 November 2011.

  • Look at those hair styles on the both of them. Donnie was fine though. lol

  • She looks like Marsha Ambrosius from the couple female group Floetry.

  • Dang Donnie is gAwgeous! Rico Swauvé

  • WOW JUST SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY I WAS A CHILD WATCHIN VIDEO SOUL FEELS GOOD TO WATCH THIS

  • If you're feeling a lil down, it doesn't mean that you 're out! Just like football players, they may get knocked down but they get back up! YOU Pick yourself up and dust yourself off because God said we will not be forsaken or destroyed! 2 Cor. 4-8,9 says We are troubled on every side yet not distressed, we are propl...

  • donnie simpson is cute,,& his voice sounds nice

  • Very sweet girl.

  • @DkPcBgOtTaLuvEm

    Cool down lil mama.....

    I was agreeing with you.

  • @DkPcBgOtTaLuvEm

People are way too touchy about touch.

My god, he just touched her suit.

You make it sound like he tried to pull a doorbell.

  • Donnie Simpson was so fine , with those pretty eyes back then.

  • whoa!! i love it!! ty for posting. she rocks!!

  • CUTIE PIE to the core!!!

  • Donny's hightop is EPIC LOL!!! And Stacy looks so cute =) Good interview! thanks for posting!!

  • donnie is wearing that hair. damn i miss those days. man this was when watching interviews were fun & cool.where did it all go wrong? todays video's are all thugged out and the r&b artists don't have the voices the singers from the past did.rappin about your dick, bitch, car, bling, gun, strip club & other dumb shit has taken over the industry.stacy lattisaw had a great voice, but the industry sold out to half dressed babes and the hard core rap. this girl can sing people.old school forever.

  • Always loved STACY LATTISAW!!!!!!!!!!

  • I just got finsh watching her on unsung!

  • I remember Bill Cosby had something to do with her career early on. They didn't mention that on Unsung. What happened.

  • @DkPcBgOtTaLuvEm I really think he was just trying to figure out what the fabric was!

  • I was a teen in the DC area when Stacey became popular. I saw her profile on the Unsung show. The real story is that her courage, vision, and strength to hold on to her values and walk away from a world of immorality without an afterthought is the greates tribute she could have given HER MOTHER!!

  • Can some post the Every Drop of Your Love video.

  • i love dynamite and all her other hits

  • Yeah, I remember this and Video Soul. I used to want that TV n the set! BET needs to rerun these. I think they did back a few years ago in the early morn. They need to do it again, daily from start to finish.

  • @n0gar They did rerun select episodes a few times over the years. But I don't think it'd be possible for them to do it from start to finish...because I know of artists who wanted to get copies of their interviews, and they had been lost or accidentally erased!

  • @retrorhythms: Damn. I thought they kept them all since they used to repeat them daily. That is lost history! Too bad I was all into the rap music then or I would have taped them. I have all of the rap videos from 1987 on up, but I never recorded Video Soul because the R&B videos were always shown, but the rap was not. I am sure someone somewhere has them recorded.

  • @n0gar That "someone somewhere" would probably be me. I think I have the most of them posted on here from what I can see. Still have more, but it takes time!

  • @n0gar Video Soul was a great show. BET had MTV beat when it came to interviewing the guests. I miss that format. Donnie Simpson was a great host and the brother had style and poise and new something about each performer which made his show really great.

  • Thanks so much for posting this vid of Stacy! When I watched Slyvester segment on Unsung I seen the preview for the next Unsung episode which was for Stacy Lattisaw and my mom was with me watching the preview and she was like "Ohh yeah Stacy Lattisaw!!!!!!" I had never heard of her, I only heard of her song "Let Me Be Your Angel when I was a kid. Im glad Unsung told her story, she is a great singer, I cant wait to hear her gospel album. Thanks again.

  • I loved that Stacey would be the subject of "Unsung", and appreciate the added insight this video gives us, thank you so much...

  • She's a beautiful and down to earth person. I saw her on Unsung on TV-One a day ago.

  • can you please post more of Stacy

  • Thanks for sharing. Donnie is only doing what inquiring minds want to know, he is a talk show host, this is what they do. Great footage.

  • So talented! Love her!

  • The Unsung episode with Stacy aired last night and I was a big fan before but I am an even bigger fan now. My sister didn't compromise her body and spirit for the mighty dollar. Got to respect her.

  • somebody plz upload the 'what you need' video on youtube! puffy teaching stacy that dance move is hilarious. lol i always loved that song and video

  • @mack1820 nevermind i just found it thanks.............

  • the industry didn't treat my baby right her husband is a lucky man!!!!!!!!!

  • sister still fine time made her finer

  • Donnie Simpson............is cocky!!! WOW

  • Also the question about Johnny Gill ..... She blushed just like any young girl would about being asked that question. She didn't frown nor did she seem upset... she blushed and laughed and said why do yall keep asking me that.... It was actually innocent and cute. Why was he a jerk for asking what fans wanted to know? LORD!!! the negativity of you tube!!!

  • She didn't eem uncomfortable with the home question. She brought it up saying the girls were calling all night with her brother. She wouldnt know if she wasnt there all night .... Also if she didnt want anyone to know she wouldnt have said that. It wasnt a secret.

  • I like stacy lattisaw she was a beautiful voice and a wonderful personality

  • I usually love Donnie and his interviews, but on this one, he acts like a jerk. He's asking her uncomfortable questions that have nothing to do with the music. It's like he's making her nervous. "You still live at home?" SMH.

  • @Codycole80 Yeah, I can see your point about the home question. I think that, especially since Stacy is also from the DC area and Donnie had interviewed her before, he was looking at the interview more as a conversation -- and probably lost sight of some of the boundaries.

  • Stacy's wicked but this guy should have the word ARSEHOLE stamped on his forehead!

  • @Westlake72 Perhaps he was a bit too pushy about the topic of JG, but overall, Donnie was a great host who really had fun with and brought out the best in the artists who visited! I hardly think "arsehole" is a fitting term!

  • @retrorhythms

Thank you for speaking out against the unkind remark made against my hometown boy Donnie Simpson! He loves Stacy and was just tactfully doing his job. Stacy was just a private young lady. Love her!! Thanks for uploading this interview!

  • Does anyone know when TV-One Unsung show ( Stacy Lattisaw) will be aired?

  • @mrsdiva69 Premieres April 12.

  • Thank you....

  • @retrorhythms watched it last night! so this was it for stacy, LAST VIDEO 'what you need' and last single 'where do we go from here' (my favorite). well at least she didn't SELL HER SOUL. i applaud her for that she seemed so nice and down to earth on the special. that was funny when her mom and sister was getting kicked out the club and she was on stage singing! lol

  • @mack1820 Actually, she had one more single after 'Where Do We Go from Here' -- "I Don't Have the Heart." You can watch her performance of it here on my channel!

  • @mrsdiva69 ,

the show aired last night April 12th but they will air it all week. It is so worth watching I learn alot about her and it was a good ending. Something you don't always see in this business.

  • i can't wait to see the unsung on stacy lattisaw.she will always be one of the baddest female singers ever!!!

  • Stacy Lattisaw will be on Tv-Ones Unsung show. It will be good to see her again, I hope Stacy talks about why she got the heck away from the music business. She said it was cut throat inside credits the very best of Stacy Lattisaw cd.

  • Romantically linked ? with Johnny Gill? I wouldnt think so ..but seriously how hard would it be to get another video soul type shows on tv again. I would love to see one again and Donnie could be the host. Detroit still LOves You Donnie!

  • Johnny is a gay man so I also doubt that Stacy was ever "With" or dated Johnny!

  • you KNOW LOL!

  • She WAS with Johnny. They dated twice and went to the same school (prior to her being tutored). They were even engaged at one point. It is in the booklet of her "The Very Best of Stacy Lattisaw".

  • You are right. I forgot all about that from the booklet! Thanks for clearing that up. It will be interesting to see if she says anything about that in the upcoming "Unsung" episode!

  • I won't even act like I knew that lol. I just so happened to be reading the booklet at work. I wasnt even born when she came out, and I got her CD this past Christmas cause my mom knows I've always loved oldies. Can't stand today's music. I'm 25 but am an old soul lol.

  • @misangelicone Thanks

  • @TheMidcoast1 you're so welcome :)

  • Her daughter looks exactly like her.

  • Oh man. I remember being a little girl; my cousin and I would feather our hair ( the best that we could) and a lil make up all just to perform her songs. Let Me Be Your Angel, Jump To The Beat, Dynamite......

  • rayon is a new rabic?(LOL)

  • I know! I thought the same thing! It's been around quite awhile, actually...maybe she meant newly popular?

  • Also, ever since Stacy Latisaw and singers like her left the industry good quality music left also. And no disrespect to Mary J Blige, But Mary introduced that hip/hop r&b style or sound that never agreed with my taste in music. Then after Mary they all came out of the woodwork SWV, Xscape etc.

Good quality music don't exist these days your best bet is to purchase both Stacy Latisaw and Johnny Gill The Best Of!

  • @MrCovering I wonder what ever happen to miss stacy lattisaw? I wonder what she is doing today?

  • briannahunt1, In the inside credits of The Very Best Of Stacy Latisaw cd, It says Stacy concludes, I love singing and always will, But i do not miss the music business. She gave her life to the lord, So my guess is she will probably release a gospel cd if she has her own label. Alot of singers have their own labels now.

  • I love how her speaking voice is so dainty and light, and yet when she sings on her later albums it is deeply soulful and piercing.

But dang it, I wanted to see the vid for Every Drop of Your Love since it it ever so slightly different from the album version....lol

    Thanks for posting the interview!!

  • I finally got my hands on the video, so I'm good. :-)

Years 1987 - 1989 are the years I started paying attention to music and videos (I was maybe 10 or 11), so I really enjoy renewing interest in the music of the past since I've grown and come to appreciate it more.

  • Brought back memories when I watched Video Soul back then. I missed that show :(

Thanx for posting this interview!! Love me some Stacy Lattisaw : D

  • Yes, it was the best. Hey, that's cool you have High Inergy's '81 LP cover as your logo! I have all of their albums in my collection!

  • please post more of Stacy if you have them ..I just love her

  • thanks for the post

  • God bless you for posting this!!!! I have never heard her talk before and I have been a fan for years!!! I am in 7th heaven right now!!!!

  • I'm glad it made your night!:-)

  • Thanks for sharing! It is interesting and bittersweet to hear her discuss all her future plans, only to walk away from the industry completely. She comes across as a very sweet and genuine young lady here who does not have a lot of nonsense in her life. I do hope she decides to release more music in the future as her voice is indeed pure and beautiful!

  • Yes, bittersweet is a good word for it. I shared the interview with her on FB; not sure how she felt about it!

  • Aww, I am sure she appreciates the love regardless!

  • thanks for posting ,I love Stacy

  • great interview with Stacy. she's one of my favorites too :)

  • Hey Retro! Thanx For Posting This.

I love Stacy Lattisaw, she's so talented and I think she made a big contribution to the Disco scene in the Uk... :)

  • You're welcome! I agree. "Jump to the Beat" was pretty big there, huh? Even Dannii Minogue did a cover version!!

  • Hey Retro! I think Stacy is Special. Her vocals are pure, and when the market was getting flooded by mediocre offerings, She still rose above this, and I think " Can't Stop Thinking About You " is a pretty good example of this... Sheer Class! :)

  • so interesting to listen and see Stacy Lattisaw in this interview. She was/is one of the greatest singers ever - I do miss her... Thanks for the video

  • she's so chill...and fine

  • I love Stacy Lattisaw. What I find interesting is that she in some ways appeared led by others. No one was apparentlly pushing her to stay in music. She also appeared here somewhat under the control of her father. She is so private that I could see why she left the industry. I wonder how her attitude is now after being gone and on her own. Where is the gospel CD? Come back Stacy.

  • If you type up StacyLattisaw, you'll get her channel and can send her a message. She wrote me back on two different occasions...sayin' thanks for the love...stuff like that!

  • Apparently, her record label at the time was pushing Shanice Williams and left her hanging. Plus it was 1989, when labels were really pushing for the thin image in female singers (looks over talent).

  • Yeah, you're right. Singers like Tracie Spencer, Lisa Fischer, and the heavyweights like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey were killin' it. Stacy look gud thick though...lol.

  • I don't think that channel is actually hers. It's very vague and doesn't have much info. I've been in contact with Stacy through another site, and she doesn't really make any mention of her past career. She seems very much dedicated to her faith and being a mom. But TV One will be airing an 'Unsung' episode dedicated to her this year, so we will finally get to HEAR her thoughts on her career back then!

  • What a Great Christmas gift. Thank You So Much..

Retrorhythms...I'm Working on something special as a fan of Stacy Lattisaw. I should have it ready for mid January. I will give you a heads up when I am done. ...Thanks Again ! Stevin

  • great interview one of my favorite singers

  • This was right before she stopped recording :( She really needs to come back to the industry.

  • Yeah, the following year she was interviewed briefly on another special, and she mentioned that she was recording another album which would be out in June of that year. Obviously, that never surfaced!

  • It was great to see this again. Thanks for posting. Maybe we can see some Soul Train or Apollo Clips next? :)
