  • thanks.i found the same battery on ebay.i wanna know , if this is good or in a few mounth's will die?! how good is the battery/ thanks and please respond. it's like the original?

  • @crystygye I'm actually using that mouse right now and it's the same battery I replaced in the video above two years ago. So that particular one I bought on eBay is continuing to work after two years and I suspect it will continue as I've had no problems.

  • am i the only one who has a m/UAE89 mouse? the damn thing only has one screw and i dont see anything else but it still wont come apart :(

  • Thanks for the video. Super easy to follow. and now I have new life in my old mouse.

  • nice vid, thanks man, it helped me clean out the ton of dust out of the wheel, and now its better than ever :D

  • Seriously tanks ! ;)

  • @timort1 Glad the video could help

  • I've had this mouse for 4 years constant everyday use and it still works perfect, never a problem, however I will be upgrading just because to a g700, I hope that is great too.

  • Awesome vid. Logitech should not be encouraging waste in favour of profit. Short sighted and stupid, your solution is the perfect fix, thank you.

  • Bravo!

  • Thanks for the video, I got the MX1000 when it first came out and it still has the original battery. It holds a charge no problem but is in need of a cleaning. This video will come in handy for that and one day the battery will need replaced.

  • thanks saved my from throwing my mouse in the bin it only lasted about 10 mins and now its back up to 3day + :)

  • Many thanks....Incredibly simple instructions and solution to save a very valued and comfortable mouse!!! Excellent!!! My battery is ordered and on the way! Anthony Rentz, Professional Engineer

  • I dont comment on many videos, but this was an awesome tutorial and it let me keep my favorite mouse. The battery started dying very quickly and I knew it was about time for a new battery and figured they would be readily available, but they weren't. I saw this, went on eBay and bought a battery for $9, and thanks to you the swap only took 5-10 min.

  • @ICGorillaP Thanks .... it really is easy to do and keeps an old mouse going

  • I just replaced the original battery with the exact same one that is seen in the video. Everything went well but the mouse isn't charging when I put it in the cradle. There is obviously some charge in the new battery because I can use the mouse but when I put it in the cradle the green lights go 1-2-3 and then stop, like it would already be fully charged...

  • Positive in the center

  • 8v @500mA. Logitech part no 190254-0000

  • someone gave me an old dell computer , this mouse and all the software came with it , i now use it with my everyday computer , what a great mouse

  • Great tutorial! Just got my battery installed and works like a charm... now for a MAJOR LEAGUE DOH! *SLAP IN THE FOREHEAD* I've been lugging around my mouse & cradle for YEARS, hoping that I could get it fixed. Now that I just got the new battery in, I JUST realized that I do not have the power adapter for it! I'll be digging around to find the specs so I can look for a universal that will work, but does anyone have the Volts/amps +/- post for the adapter - and/or the ac adapter serial/model??

  • Either the charging element on the mouse or the charger base broke on me after almost 6 years. I was foolish and replaced with a Razer Deathadder and the mouse is way too lightweight. I have the DPI of the deathadder at 3500 and the polling rate to 1000hz and I can't tell a single difference from my MX-1000. My next mouse will be another MX-1000.

  • Before I put in my replacement I had a solid red light...even when charging. After putting in my replacement battery I've got a solid red light while charging. What does that mean?

  • It could mean that the circuitry to charge the battery is not working. When charging the three lights on the side will light up one, then two, then three then, You might try taking the mouse apart again getting a can of air cleaner and really blowing out all the circuitry to make sure no dust is there. Also checked the connections between where the mouse connects to the charger and the mouse itself clean them. Snuggle the mouse into the charger until the light starts blinking

  • @Repobrain Thanks for the response :) I did some more research on it and my battery might not have been dead in the first place. Some gentle but firm strikes to the mouse are required to get that red light problem to stop. Something else is obviously going on, but it goes to solid red about every 20 minutes, then I hit it a couple of times and it works again for about 20 minutes. The mouse is effectively dead but this can help people in the same situation hopefully...if only temporarily...

  • @Repobrain

I replaced the battery in my MX that had been idle for years. I was able to find the battery on Ebay as you said. I also found a charging cradle. When I place the mouse in the charger, the mouse lights come on and flash upward while being charged. However, they will flash in sequence about 4 times, then they all turn solid. I used the mouse and the battery ran out right quick. Aren't the light supposed to flash until the charging cycle is complete? If so, what is my problem? Thanks

  • @fuckyougeorgebush clean the charging pads with some alcohol. That worked for me....

  • @fuckyougeorgebush most probably you dont get connection between the mouse and charger. It happened to me the other day. Just clean the 2 gold connectors on the mouse bottom flat surface, and clean the space on the charger where your mouse goes while charging. Make sure there is no dust, and clean the connectors well. You should be good then and notice proper charging immediately after the procecdure.

  • Just installed. Works great. Thanks! You are the man!

  • Great tutorial. I'd like tro replace my battery to improve the time between charging - now only getting maybe 2 days before charging. Amazopns replacement battery is a 600mA while my mouse is a 800mA - does that matter.?

  • @dagitony it will have a little bit shorter life than it did when it was new but other than that it will charge quicker

my mx 1000 is still rocking the original battery i got it maybe 7 years ago it doesn't hold a charge as long as it used to when it gets to not holding one at all i will probably do this or get a new mouse...

  • Brilliant tutorial. If your'e not a teacher then maybe you missed your calling. :) Many thanks.

  • I had been having troubles getting my MX1000 to charge and hold a charge worth using...I had taken my dad's advice and lightly sanded the brass contact points on the bottom of the mouse and in the cradle and the mouse seems to make better contact now but still doesn't hold as long a charge as when I first bought it 5 years ago. I plan to switch out the old battery for the new one that's on the way with the guide of this great tutorial!!

  • excellent video!!! I had been having troubles getting my MX 1000 to start to charge and to hold a charge and took my dad's advice and lightly sanded the brass contact points on the bottom of the mouse and in the cradle...this definitely helped, and now the mouse charges again and holds a charge for a few days to a week but I have the new battery on order and can't wait to try this new fix!!! Love the tutorial!!

  • This is the best mouse i have ever had

  • @AlexBoy123HBG I agree !

  • @Repobrain I also agree...I have 3

  • I just replaced my battery in ~5 minutes using the step-by-step instructions shown in your video. The process went off without a hitch and my mouse is back in action. Thanks for a great video.

  • I remember how pleased I was with the MX1000. It served me so well over the years. But lately I've had to recharge it a lot. So here are my thanks for your instructions. Next to me is now a MX1000 charging up. Battery delivered from Hong Kong to Sweden in a few days. Thanks!

  • Amazon sales this battery for $10.91. L-LB2.

    Peace.

  • Excellent video bro. This July will be 6 years for my mouse. I'm going to keep it for a backup and will probably purchase the G700 mouse cause of the 5700 dpi. Would you our anyone happen to know what's the highest dpi this mouse can max out too?

Thanks for your informative video bro. Logitech probably saw the video and came out with the G700 which has a removable AA battery. We need more innovators like you to shape our electronic world. Peace to you.

  • The brand does not matter..but is must be for this mouse

  • Can I use any brand of rechargeable for this mouse?

    MacMike1000

  • Here's an unusual situation. I bought this mouse 4 years or so ago at the same time as a wired G5 "gaming" mouse, and never got around to using the MX 1000 even once.

Now the G5 scroll wheel is malfunctioning so I'd like to use my MX 1000 instead of buying something new. But I'm wondering what to expect from a 4-year old never-been-charged battery. (charging it even as we squeak)

Any guesses as to battery state?

  • Thanks for this video , it made replaceing the battery really easy, like you I really enjoy this mouse and look forward to more years of using it ; thanks to you.

  • I have had this mouse for 4 or 5 years now, absolutely love it. However, it does not charge anymore when I set it in its cradle. I dont get any indicators at all when setting it into the cradle, no green or red lights. Would that be the mouse battery, or would that be something else is wrong with the charging mechanisms in the cradle/mouse ? would like to get some thoughts before I go ahead and order a new battery for this, because I absolutely want to keep using this thing.

  • @patronofchaos Well I don't want to say absolutely it would be be battery but it seems the most logical problem. After 4-5 years it's recharging ability would be limited if not gone but there could always be some other contact inside broken. However personally I would replace the battery and give it a try.

  • @patronofchaos

I've had the same issue with mine and what I found is that the charging pads on the bottom of the mouse get dirty. Cleaning them usually solves the issue.

  • just one thing. i've been using my mx-1k from 2005, and the battery starts to wear out. if i use it for about half a day straight, half of the charge goes away. what's your new battery's coverage?

  • @bachterman ---The new battery runs for weeks ...Like new

  • @Repobrain thanks! i've bought a klic-5001 and replaced my waning old battery. i charged it at 10.05., and it's still three green leds! also i've read somewhere it's 23 days with average use (e.g. 10 hours daily).

    cheers!

  • 66 likes and 0 dislikes...!!! Awesome video man!!! Keep it up!

  • Just but a new mouse dude

  • @ProtegeTuype---- That's like telling a guy who's restoring a 57 Chevy to just buying a new car. I mean where's the fun in that. The Mx 1000 tends to be more accurate than most of the new mice. And just because Logitech says you can't replace the battery in the MX 1000... Don't be a conformist and buy a new mouse because that's what they want you to do. Of course if you want a real man's mouse that would be the R.A.T. 9 Gaming Mouse (check it out on Amazon).. That's a serious rodent.

  • @ProtegeTuype NEVER! Man i have been using this mouse now for a little over 6 years. I paid a whopping $229 for it new back in early 05. An i have never regretted it for a second. This mouse is fantastic and mine is still going strong. Battery still lasts me over a week of heavy use on a single charge.

  • I am going to forward this link to my sis, she is good doing things like this and I am not! I absolutley love this mouse and hate the fact that it is to the point of needing to be charged every night or I am in trouble with it lasting the next day. I will be thrilled if she can fix this for me! I have seen used ones on ebay, but a person is probably going to run into the same problem of needing a battery replacement in the near future. Thanks a millon for posting this for this mouse lover!

  • its a great mouse.

    worth repairing.

  • Thanks, just fitted new battery in less than 10 minutes :)

  • Just ordered my battery! Thank you so much for this great information!!

  • Thank you so much.. I love my MX1000 and, despite trying, couldn't find another I liked (I tried!)... I am very happy to be able to use this mouse for another 5 years!

  • amazing guide, thank you!

  • @Neo001100 Thank you, many people have found it helpful

  • this is a great how-to video. I just replaced the battery on my MX 1000 in less than 5 mins. Thanks!

  • Hi i was wondering if the MX Revolution mouse is unscrewed in a similar way?

  • @nitishviper I not sure ...they do make this differently

  • Thank you very much for taking the time to explain us how to do it. It took me 5 minutes with your guidance.

    --dmg

  • Thank you so much for this perfect instruction. I have 2 MX1000's as part of the DiNovo set : one with a stuck scrollwheel and since this morning one with a dead battery. Thanks to your video I found the courage to open up the one with the bad scrollwheel and removed about half a cat's worth of hair!! If that scrollwheel still doesn't work I plan to remove it's (hopefully still) good battery and put it in the one with the dead battery. Got nothing to lose!

  • ty 4 this guide, i'll replace my mx1000 battery after this post. ;-)

  • Thanks for this informative video. I used to have this mouse, and am considering buying one. The battery age was my biggest concern.

It's too bad Logitech never made a real update to this mouse using the same form factor. Yes, I know there are newer MX models, but the newer form factor is not as good IMHO. If they made a version of the MX1000 with a smooth scroll wheel, I'd buy it in a second.

    Still the best mouse ever.

  • is the charger also the reciever?

  • @jackyC712644 Yes the charger is also the reciever

  • Great review! I have had my mx1000 since 2005 and it has outlasted many many other mice. For a few years I had is shelved and only used it as a backup, but I have recently started using it as my mouse at work. The mouse button 1 malfunctions a little bit (sometimes clicks twice instead of once and sometimes releases when you didn't) and the charger only charges when you get it into the sweet spot. The battery though still works pretty well. I will probably get a backup battery just in case.

  • Great video. My batter is still running strong but this is an excellent demo on how to take it apart to clean the wheel or replace the battery. Good job!

  • thanks for the vid, it helped me clean my mouse

used the vid to look for the screws and stuff.

the scroll didnt work nicely anymore, there was so much goo in it :)

  • I've downloaded your video so just in case my new mx1000 needs a battery replacement in say... 2015 lol.... I'll know how to do it then. Thanx.

  • Excellent video. I'm considering buying this mouse for $40 new. This will extend its life.

  • i usually don't comment on videos much... but i would just like to commend you on this video tutorial!! it's so straight forward, simple, and easy to understand!! Even though it might not apply to me... you definitely should make more videos because I know a lot of people would totally benefit from them. My mx1000 mouse is still going strong from the original battery, but this tut will come in handy in the near future! Thank you! =]

  • Thanks.... I will

  • hey I have that mouse too. Mine is 5 years old and it still works.

  • Thank you very much for this video. I don't need to replace my battery (yet), but my scroll wheel was getting very difficult to spin. Your video showed me how to open the mouse up and clean the lint and hair out of the wheel. I then put a couple drops of shaver oil on each side of the wheel center, then cleaned the outside of the wheel with isopropyl alcohol to remove all of the sediment and oil that had built up from my finger. Viola! it works good as new again.

  • Half the problem is trying to figure out how to getting these things without breaking them. When my video help you work on your mouse and get it working again in one piece!

  • Hey there.. Nice video! :)

I have one question. The adapter for the Cordless Mouse Receiver has 2 info's about the input data. It says " Rating: 5V DC 100mA / 13V DC 500mA(DC plug"

I lost my adapter, but how big should my new adapter be? 5V or 13V?

  • There are two voltage amperage numbers on the adapter. 13V 500ma (for the DC plug) looks like the output from that point to the mouse 5V 100ma
