I think this is great, and it's wonderful when someone hears the lyric and decides to change purchasing habits. I noticed the word "agitate" was used instead of David Rovic's phrase "smash the state" - now that's the real thing.
Ridiculously stupid people. Americans-Canadians are a big bunch of ignorants. We all feel irritated by you here in germany. Please, read about colombia and the conflict, then sing whatever you want (thanks god it's 25 old people in a train station looking very stupid...thanks god it's nothing convincing)
@rocknathancool interestingly a recent international human rights investigation into political prisoners in Cuba determined that of the 100 or so who had been described as political prisoners, as many as 70 didn't fit the description because they were in jail for serious crimes of violence, including bombings, torture etc. Unlike the Cuban 5, who are in jail because they presented the FBI with evidence of a bombing plot by Jose Carilles
@RafaleC77th. For what it's worth, on February 25th, 2010, Coca Cola was charged in a NY lawsuit with torture, murder, abduction and rape in factories in Guatemala. I'm unable to post a link to the article, but you can find it on the Organic Consumers' Association website (you can also download the complaint there). The plaintiffs are Jose Palacio and several others. I like the singing too
Coke is a great soft drink. I have at least one or two a week.
I hate to think that a branch of Coke in a third world country is abusing its position to keep wages low. Is it happening? Certainly.
Global conspiracy by the worlds most successful soft drink maker and distributer to kill union members in Columbia? Doubtful.
All of this is the result of globalization. Industrialized nations pressure others to lower tariffs, minimize regulation; promise new jobs, and higher wages.
Sadly, that is rarely the case. Most countries become increasingly dependent on foreign imports, and the companies that do move in are under not government guidelines to protect the worker; therefore, lower wages and loss of jobs is the typical result.
Ultimately, however, it is the Columbian officials and leaders who should protect their citizens from corporate strong arming. But, most officials are willing to take bribes and kickbacks, happy to get paid while their people suffer.
Banning a soft drink is not going to stop the ills of globalization. I am going to continue to drink Coke of course, but I will certainly not drink it if I go to Columbia.
My heart goes out to any parties who have been injured or wronged in the process of standing up for their rights and their families. I wish the Coke workers in Columbia the best.
What a coincidence, fear and death denial delusions play a role in allowing people to justify racism, bigotry, hatred, and the subjugation of out-groups as well as select in-groups
Most western CULTures are big death squads, exploiting developing nations & third world dictatorships for privileges. Everybody loves the dollar store
If your world view relies upon some eternal afterlife fantasy you can not care about other people. You only care about converting people to your beLIEf to validate it
Union Busting and using terrorist groups to intimidate workers, murder dissenters and community organizers. Sound like business and usual. Washington Dc should be proud of this corporation because it reflects their views of profits and power by any means. Also lest we forget coke grabbing water from poor villagers in India as well as polluting the surrounding area, which Coke were forced to admit to wrong doing and shut down it's bottling plant.
@gli96187 Former Nestlé boss claimed it would be extreme to say that there should be a general human right for water: WE SHOULD ALL PAY FOR EVERYTHING.
Have there ever been any human rights for real? I doubt so. :-(
MONEY IS A CRIME!!!
It has nothing to do with real life and its sustenance.
@TheAngelicSiren Lets not over generalize here MONEY itself is neither good nor evil, it is a tool and a resource. It's the love of money that is evil. I am all for making money and making a profit but not at the expense of others. Look at it this way the same money that is used to feed these abusive companies and world dictators is the same money that can be used to help feed staving families and fund disaster relief. You have to look at the direction where the money flows.
@gli96187 Money is not needed to make a flow or a trade in this world, it rather blocks it. If you study the whole system thoroughly, then you see how much products and resources are being destroyed just for getting more money that doesn't even exist!! (True! This printed private paper does not have the value they say. It cannot be covered anymore.) I believe it is our right to be here, and to have shelter, food, water, medicine, education, mobility, and work (say, something to do).
@gli96187 Pt2 BUT: I agree, if people really wish to use money as a positive means for trade, it can be useful. First, I'd give every human being in this world a minimum wage in any case! There is a very good documentary about that in German. I invited all my facebook friends to watch it and become a fan of the group. NOT ONE DECLINED OR IGNORED. This is the future, if you ask me. We're signing petitions. There are enough resources and not too many people! OUR statistics will prove it! :-)
@TheAngelicSiren The term "base pay" would fit better. When we are content and healthy we work best, but we are not as easily ruled by a still crazy upper class.
@TheAngelicSiren You have some good points but until we live in a perfect star trek world sure we can do without money. But I live in the real world and money is only paper with an agreed upon value and medium of payment for public and private debt. What really has to happen is to go back to the gold standard were the paper receipts (money) is actually backed by it's dominate value in gold or silver, its the only logical way to slow down the crooked money printers of the central banks.
Coke Hit with New Charges of Murder, Rape, Torture
On February 25, 2010 a lawsuit was filed on behalf of eight plaintiffs in the Supreme Court of the State of New York against The Coca-Cola Co. and Coke processing and bottling plants in Guatemala. This case involves charges of murder, rape and torture. The plaintiffs include union leaders and family members.
i'd like to sink my fat cock into muhtar kent's fizzy brain and fuck the living the coke right out of it. then, once he is my mindless fuck zombie, i will make him slurp the smegma straight out of my foreskin like an oyster.
I'm not going to boycott the conglomerate coke because from what I've read in research, any corruption at the head of power in coke was lead by the Columbia owners of the plant. Now it seems irresponsible of Coke not to pursue the case further but what can you do when terrorists are involved? I guess what I'm saying is, people at like American owners of Coke hired the hitmen and that's really not the case. Fucking hippies need to get over themselves.
er, what can you do when terrorists are involved? Actually, Coke could do a lot. Given that the president of Columbia was a former leader of this terrorist group, Coke could call the president and demand the prosecution of these goons. Or they could make a general announcement that they would cease operations in the country unless the killings and intimidation stopped. Poor, powerless Coke did none of those things. And BTW, I didn't notice any hippies in this choir...looks like folks to me
Anyway, I guess my point is that I think Coke is a good company in spite of the columbia incident, and to boycott coke is to say that they committed the murders and in fact support them. It's common sense that this is not the case, they do a lot of good for countries such as south africa, but this song is saying they're money hungry and destructive. When you get to that level you might as well boycott any big business.
granted the conductor looks weird, but so did Einstein. BTW Coke owns 36% of the bottling company, so their hands are deep in workers' blood. If you're interested in more facts about Coke, google the "human cost of coke" fact sheet. While you're at it, check IRC-Coca Cola...the campaign to hold Coke accountable in India.
from what I can see, money hungry and destructive is a good description. And hey, boycotting big business! Thanks for the great idea! You mean McDonalds, Walmart, Shell, Pepsi (just to be fair), and so on? Brilliant!
@Rachman1337 Sorry, dude, but you should boycott any big business. They all lose track of their business when they're too big. What are all these inc.s for? Why should each and every business be tied to stock markets and thus lie in the power of a handful bankers. If you think that's not true, educate yourself. Hippie or yuppie, you cannot say yes to crime. Sorry! That's corporate crime, and it's got to be stopped, before YOU, yeah, YOU starve because of their greed. They don't care about us!
@TheAngelicSiren Ok, maybe I shouldn't overgeneralize. Maybe there are big global companies that sell healthy things worth of value, do something for us and our environment, are not infiltrated by pure greed, and are not organized hierarchically. I hope... If the products are even for free, and everyone has learned to deal with so much wealth and progress, then I find myself in my personal utopia. I'm working on it... ;-D
"Drink Juice and Agitate" - Yes! Thanks to all you singers who did this! Shame on Coke! I'll definitely tell people about this in the Coke Isles at all the stores who sell it. Amen!
My dopplganger is in Vancouver....if you pause this at 1:28 the wombyn on the far right could be me....we look, dress and sing alike and wear the same green button....thanks for this David...hope to see you again on of these days

Nicely done. The station seemed to provide some good acoustics. Too bad though that people in a transit station are in "hurry up" mode and not disposed to stop and listen.
What a great idea, and well executed. Maybe do a couple simultaneous performances, smaller groups. The leader's sweater adds good visual--more needed...maybe one or two people pull out a placard that states the basic premise. What happened with cops? Congratulations!
