Re: "Three things: Is soldering required? (post should show now)... The soldering - and the shrink tubing - I don't think is REALLY required - I was even going to do just butt connector crimps. Short version is last time i did this (like 15 years ago) I just twisted and slapped some black tape on, and over time I had a few speaker wires that kept coming apart (due to vibration I think). This time I figured I'd try to do it as right as I could. Not a pro, so maybe I wasted money, dunno!
@thewarhasgoneaway1 I believe your vehicle holds a single DIN radio. DIN is just a size, the one above is double DIN. Don't take my word for it though.
For anyone who is curious - still love the radio, but the mic above the dash is apparently picking up road noise/vibration. Going to move it - thinking I'll try on the windshield pillar.
Thanks a lot for the video and your efforts - it was something I was looking for to reference when I install my JVC in my Ford Escape. I am old school so I haven't done a radio install since the late 70's when all you had to do was an antennae hookup and some minor splicing but I am looking forward to it now that I have a reference video. Appreciate it.
good video..... helped put an african at ease about hooking up these new fangled systems last one put in played tapes. Hope the BT worked out found out mic placement is paramount, one guy even put it in the floabw ceiling byt the rear view. let us know how it works out.
Well... Gf says its a little muddy. Not sure if it's the vibrations from road or, I read there was a firmware update that addressed bt quality. Might move and update and see what happens.
Nice finished product. I'm 95% sure I want to get this put into my '08 VW Rabbit, but I don't think I'm handy enough (or have the patience) to do it myself. I'm probably gonna end up letting the geek squad at Best Buy take that on for me. Thanks for posting your how-to, though, and the stereo looks really great in your vehicle. Can you comment on the quality of the BT as far as how callers say you sound over it? I like that you placed the mic in front of you as opposed to overhead like most.
Thanks! Yeah, wished i had this for my car before I did it. Screwed up video a bit, forgot I had shot the "taking off the faceplate" bit and reshot it. Oh well, when I get paid to do this I'll do it right! :) Still loving the radio.
Great video, thanks for the start-to-finish overview. I just ordered one of these for my '06 GTO -- finally got tired of being stuck with redbook audio CDs!

Three things:
Is soldering required? Can't I just twist the exposed wires together and put electrical tape on them?
We have the same tool kit, nice!
And great taste in music, I haven't heard Stevie Ray's cover of voodoo child yet.
