What's with the terrible stock music? I could've learned something from that guy, but I couldn't hear him over the tune, and I couldn't stand the tune enough to watch!
Wow, that is sure a lot of work, but I truly enjoyed watching and listening to all that was said and explained about it. Great watch...talented man! Eyes sometimes speak louder than words....
This was a great inspiration. I work as a teacher in woodcraft i Sweden, if i could aford to give you a ticket to come here i would. Would be fun to show my pupils.
does nobody else have issue with this video??? That man is making white oak baskets for the white man!! Places like this are historical relics that should be banned. The time of slavery is over! Why does nobody else see this???
I'd have preferred to hear him about how to run the split in the pole with the froe. I managed to make my own yurt, and i need to split saplings to have thin planks to do the lattice.
A very talented man in this video. He must be one of a small handful of people that still have this knowledge. I very much enjoyed the video but would have liked to hear the narrative of the man doing the work. A man that good with his hands needs to be heard to pass this master craft on to others. Excellent video.
lol! i see so many complaining about the music, and wanting to hear whats being said. well i had no trouble hearing him speak, but most importantly i could SEE what he was doing, i dont think i saw anything there that needed too much explanation anyway.
@whackitov not everyone has your abilitly to hear through what feels like elevator music. It is a matter of courtesy to the man showing us his talent. I tend to think that true learning is not just having the ability to see with our eyes. True observation uses all the senses and we could have gleaned a little about who this man is and hear him with pride tell us about his craft. Please dont get positive criticism mixed up with negitive whingebags.. there has been a lot of praise for this video.
Wow, after enduring over 4.30 minutes about how to shape the strips, over 6 minutes for the making of the base, I was hoping to AT LEAST get to see the transition between that and starting to weave the rest of the basket !!
It's nice and everything but I saw a lot of videos that were nice and short and showed me a LOT more stuff, that I could actually do myself...
Apart from that, how does he not get spelks in his hands doing this 0_0
Is there any way to get rid of that really insipid annoying muzac. It detracts so much from the subject of basket making. In fact, the music spoils what would otherwise be a very good informational video. I am a musician and song writer.
The was great, although i would have preferred to hear the talking instead of being subjected to meaningless pretty guitar music. I wanted to hear what he had to say!!!!
Im sorry, is the gentleman in the video name is Fred? I was actually asking of a previous poster oakbasketman when he mentioned a book he wrote. I was not trying to take away any credit from your video here. This is a very good video and I really enjoy these type of crafts, though I dont know how to do them, Id kike to learn. Thanks
I have been making split white oak baskets of all kinds for many years trying to keep the art alive. have written book showing full methods with pictures of entire process. This video is wonderful education for all those who enjoy the old time craft of white oak basketmaking.
Excellent show of how to clean up and split a white oak stick. The way he began the basket was also fascinating. I would have loved to see the part that was missing wherein he stood the basket up and began working the sides.

Awesome, but mute it. Sadly you can't hear his voice over the cheesy background music.

cool vid - cool music, I personally thought guitar went well with this video, considering half of what was said was probably not coherent anyway.

I really liked watching this. From the looks of the basket at the end, it was going to become a thing of beauty. I wish I had heard his voice.

i think the music helps you to concentrate however, i didn't quite grasp how the folds end up like sticks to weave.
The video was very interesting tho

Too distracted by the noise and sappy guitar music to finish watching your video. You're trying to include too much multimedia. Keep it simple.
mrbr549 2 years ago
If I wanted to hear a guitar, I would have searched that... I would rather listen to the guy and maybe learn what he had to say.
