the red sox try to buy a championship every year. look how long it took them to do it. there's alot more involved with just buying big price tag players: 1) they have to play well together; if there are egos fighting for the spotlight, they will fail. 2) they have to combine to make a championship team; the A's had a contending team for the 2002 championship with probably the lowest payroll in the league... read Moneyball. They stats need to combine well to make up the runs you need to win
3) they need to stay healthy. 4) everybody slumps. the rest of the team has to be able and even more so, WILLING to do so. 5) anything can happen! nothing is guaranteed. this hold especially true for baseball. 6) the AL East is the toughest division in baseball. Just winning the division is like winning the world series as far as competition goes. same with the wildcard. one or two "off" days might be the difference maker on if you will even make it to the playoffs.

The Yankees bought 27 World Championships. Yeah that's why Mickey Mantle went out after he won the world series along with the rest of the team and they had real jobs like the ones A Rod and Jeter don't have. Last time I checked the Yankees didn't win all 27 championships under the ownership of George Steinbrener in the NOW billion dollar sport of professional baseball. the red sox try to buy a championship every year. look how long it took them to do it. there's alot more involved with just buying big price tag players: 1) they have to play well together; if there are egos fighting for the spotlight, they will fail. 2) they have to combine to make a championship team; the A's had a contending team for the 2002 championship with probably the lowest payroll in the league... read Moneyball. They stats need to combine well to make up the runs you need to win
