  • Amazing sound... Please, someone.... What´s the name of the track?

  • Your a lot more active while standing and gain a 3rd person perspective on thoughts and ideas as your taking in everything around you and not just a blank screen.

  • this would be a techgeek/ designer, like myself's best dream come to life, just picking the perfect spot in the world, and seeing how their creation looks compared to the areas

  • The future es now

  • thats so fucking awesome!!

  • Wow.

  • now that's how it's supposed to be. two stationary fingers to tell which way and you use the third to move it. can imagine how our children will LOL at such 2D screens.

  • Man oh man I can't wait to get my hands on one of these!!!!!!!

Obviously for the photoshop perspective, but imagine what you could do in Z-brush or Mudbox with this thing!!!!

It truely would be like sculpting with digital clay!!!!!

  • jeezus , whot kind of sceptical persons are on the web , its not about waving your arm and yes it might be slow , and yes youd be standing for 8 hours in a row , ut the pple working in factory's are doing that to. anyways its not about the toucht screen its about inuitive use , imagine photoschopping whit this ?? it would go so much faster and u dont need a big ass screen like that so u Dont have to wave your arms around like that ist in this video just for demonstrational purposes

  • I'm laughing at all the lazy people commenting on this video!

"who wants to be standing 8 hours straight?"

umm... there are a lot of jobs that doesn't involve sitting! hehe

the only people that would have a problem with "standing for 8 hours straight" are those people that go from sitting on their asses at home to sitting on their asses at their cubicle or office!

And then we ask ourselves why americans are fat! haha

  • who asks why americans are fat its pretty obvious :)

  • it is extremely ignorant putting a blanket statement on a country

  • iit is pretty myopic to not take things with a pinch of salt especially things said in good humor

  • living in the states and not being fat, and having barely anyone you know be fat, and hearing 'oh you americans with your cheeseburgers and your fat and your stupid' every time you go on youtube gets really really annoying

  • So the fact that, according to our own government, 65% of U.S. citizens are considered to be overweight, and the fact that, according to the World Health Organization, we are in the top 10 fattest countries in the world, (I think we are number 8), doesn't give us the right to call americans fat, then when can we?

To be honest, we are a fat nation, doesn't matter if you yourself are fat or not.

  • @ojmardueno still laughing!

  • so great to have this in my room doing my assignment!

  • ive been using 3d studio max for a while and i think id rather use a mouse. this seems like it will take longer to model with than with just a mouse. Touch screens are useless if you really think about it. They are cool tho thats about it but impractical and slow and you have to keep your arms moving always and it would lose its "coolness" very fast and youll be dying for your mouse and keyboard back. fuck touch screen, go away.

  • Tilting is imperative.!!1

now i'll be able to mix music the right way...

    if apps support multitouch...

  • it looks a little slow, at least for design, maybe autodesk should be dedicate to be friendly software more than spectacular interfaces...

i think sketchup change the 3d interface, but autodesk still look hard to handle.

  • they did all thar for every building in google earth?????

  • Thats pretty phenomenal! I can totally see how Adobe can also use this to their advantage with their creative apps.

  • I see Autodesk is still focusing on making eye candy instead of fixing existing bugs.

  • Awesome! Out of all the competitors that I have seen Jeff Han's is by far the best, better than windows with the cameras, imac touch and even HP touch. Hopefully this will be the winner for all media and computers. Question: How can I get employed here I'm a bit of graphic artist myself. Best 2 all.

  • This so breaks the whole paradigm. The use of "tools" -- something from desktop, single-pointer interfaces.

You should have "contexts", it is so easy here, no Avid or vi-like mode-switching necessary, just by seeing _where_ you put your fingers the software should adapt.

    Not impressed.

  • I was thinking of the same thing

  • LoL! From the entire clip only the music is important for you.... :)

  • it looks really nice but I hope the wall is easy adjustable in hight and it is possible to tilt the whole wall down so you can chance your working position often. I would never be able to work like the guy, my arms would fall of :)

  • The music in the video is one variant of a block of music that was licensed for Autodesk as our corporate music suite. It is used for our music-on-hold, used at conferences, etc. There are several variations (ambient, happy, dark, etc.). However, I've been unable to find the original musician's name.

  • @AutodeskLabs Ever figure out who this was by? I would kill to know.

  • HerrTrevik:

-Good point, but I'd say a standard user unit would have to be tilted, or tiltable. Possibly, you could use the pen and write by hand, and have text-recognizing software convert to text.

--agreed, wacom stylus is super important.I think it might kill multitouch to think "a display in every home." at least a big display. a 4"x6" would be a welcome gesture addition to mouse+keyboard paradigm.

  • i hope you notice this dude using ONLY 1 FINGER to 3d model these buildings. great technology with LAME SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT wont go anywhere!!!! take notice autodesk...

plus who wants to stand up all damn day..damn

  • Muito bom!

  • imagine going examining MRI scans in 3D, being able to zoom into specific areas of the brain, and highlighting areas where a tumor has grown. it makes things so much easier. thats what technology is, to make things easier. i can't see how a standard pc, mouse keyboard setup can be easier than using your actual fingers. isn't it less troublesome without 'the middle man'?

  • i need that

  • There are also desk-sized versions available that are made for personal work and don't require standing.

  • One other advantage is the large format. How many people remember the difference between doing design at 640x480 vs. doing design at 1600x1200 pixels? This screen takes that another step further. Your hands might only be able to reach a certain distance, but your eyes can see a much larger context. It is freeing.

  • Nieman, if you look in the video here you'll see Doug is not just using his fingers but also other pen-like instruments that have precise points. Donfret is correct: this screen has the advantages of a tablet plus it works with multiple fingers a the same time. You can set context or constraints with one hand and use a pen with the other for precise placement.

  • how about gestural input?

how about showing the desk sized concept?

what if the dude up here has to input text- how ergonomic is it to type with your wrists cramped up like youre doing pushups?

how about only having a 5"x5" pad that is just for gestural input and minimal character display?

cmon urban planners would use this for some fancy client display board, or critique tool rather than a design interface. think specific not big.

  • This is experimental technology, I'm sure Jeff Han has thought of all this, so stop whining.

  • Nieman, how do you think precise technical drawings are created? Somebody makes a general outline shape with a mouse (or TABLET) and enters dimensions to fully define the shape. And what is a tablet but a small touch-screen-like device? I do think the touch screen is more intuitive and faster than a mouse. Why have a middle-man between you and your computer?

  • I think this is really interesting, but I do agree with you nieman, for normal use, this probably would end up being slower than using a mouse for most people. It's still a good show of the state of technology, but it's not exactly bleeding edge stuff anymore, and if stuff like bbci (Berlin Brain Controlled Interface[?]) becomes more consistent, efficient, and affordable... goodbye touch screens.

  • Let's get this on the market, folks, watcha waiting for?

  • WOW - I'll take two please...

  • awesome!!

  • multi-touch , the future of Industrial Design...

  • way cool

  • Wow, this is terrific!

  • very cool! i'll take one :)

  • I too think it is "the shizz."

  • multitouch is the shizz!!!
