Listening to commentary, some blame goes to owners/managers who purposes this final race with a $5 million prize for Wheldon and dprctatie to split if he could come from, last, 34th to win it. Drivers before race said they would be going 220 mph (football field in one second) and said they would br racing three- or four abreast, and felt it would be dangerous.

@htwooh21 How does Dan Wheldon win The indy 500 and not have a ride for the rest of the season? this was his 4th race of the season..Danika patrick got to run the whole season and her best finish was 5th. Dan was a 2 time Indy winner and The series Champ........So they put him dead last and offer to pay him 5 million if he wins the race....Blame the Indy series for his death..he should have had a full time ride and should have never been dead last..He never started last in his whole career.

@MrJsmyers he would of had a full time ride, but he had chosen to take some time off to spend time with his family. with Danica going to nascar next season, supposedly he was going to take over her seat in the go daddy car. Its unfortunate that this had to happen, but atleast if he had to die, he died doing what he loved. ironic that his car getting airborne is what did the damage and next season's car is being designed to prevent that from happening, a year too late sadly.

@jsredman1401 Very sad and Im pissed about the 5 million dollar bet if he could win the race....You know he was really going after that Money..again there was very little he could have done as far as missing this wreck. i did not know about Dan going to Danicas car...he was gonna win this race! he had agreat shot at it and it is sad that he is gone...he was a real decent guy,a true racer who was definately one of the best in IRL ,,I viewed almost all his 16 wins..SAD SAD SAD
