The thing is, if this was badged an Audi as planned, they would probably be highly collectible nowadays.
What bugs me is that people doubted it (and still do) yet Porsche showed time and time again that these cars were great. The raced at Le Mans and SCCA with them, and they led to the much liked 944 and 968. If those aren't good enough reasons, you must hate Porsches all together or be a strict '911s or bust' person.
This really makes me want to drive mine!! But unfortunately it's been out of order since I blew a head gasket:/ Even worse, I rebuilt the entire engine and I find out the machine shop didn't do the valve job right...so not even enough compression to start the car!!! Watching this video and everyone elses just helps me to not give up =) Hopefully I can get this sorted out so I can start enjoying driving it again ;) And for everyone that uplifts the 924 series...thanks!
Thanks for sharing this vid, looks like a lot of fun and confirms my suspicion the 924 can be a fun track car for me one day (cause I don't want to crash my 85k miles 968 or snap the belts while hitting it).
out of the issue but has anyone had a digital dial on your 924 or 944 near the glove box?I got it when my dad bought the car back in 95 and i had no idea what it was i think it as a sync code to start the vheicle and i had a hidden switch too,anyone know what the digi dial actually do?
Someone once wrote if this had come from Audi as planned it would have nothing but praise (except for those drums in the rear!). As the Porsche it became so many hate it...for not being a 911. Well no kidding. As for being made of mostly Audi/VW parts, the joy of a 924 is the driving experience. I found it more "pure" sport car than the 944. Lighter with no power assister steering and great balance. A fine technical achievement AND it kept Porsche from going under by It's own sales! Not bad

So did the 911, The Porsche-designed Volkswagen Beetle served as the basic model for the design and production of the Porsche 911. So the 911 and the 924 are more alike then you'd think.
Besides, the Audi engine on the 2 litre version is brilliant.
@slobowitz Wrong. Alot of parts on the 924 is either from audi or from VW.
The 911 has absolutely nothing incommon with the beetle or VW. The 356 was based on a beetle (although ferdinand porsche designed both) but the 911 was a much later design and completely different.
@Lillie1986 not true, The early 911's got a lot of components from VW-factory, and in fact werebased on the beetle. If you doubt this, try and google it.
@slobowitz this car is a real porche its the one porche that saved the company from possible bankruptcy. this is the car that I got today for christmas i had the choice of the 911 or the 924 regular but i chose this one because it is a real porche
as solbowitz said, they are so alike, and the 911 is also mainly audi vw. and also nothing is half of porsche if it is called porsche. youre probably one of those assholes who thinks his 911 is better because it is rear engined. to tell the truth, the rear engine design is so seriously flawed, that i would not buy a 911 before first owning the mid engined 914,and the front engined 924,931,944, and 928. you are a true asshole :) have a nice day
Look at the first porsche from 1948, the No1 and the 356 series and the 911 series, you see they are the same car family, you dont see that with the square 944 and 924.
The 911 series are wonderfull machines, your just acting as a total idiot for not having one... go cry
@dutchforces want a real Porsche of this time ? buy a 928, at his time it was better han every 911... better Engine better tecnology, i drove a 911 from 82, and a 928 from 83 and the 911 was harder to drive and many times slower, the only true plus point was the lower weight of the 911 but on wet streets the 911 is uncontrolable because the low weight on the front wheels. If the tank runs out to 50% it gets slower and slower with every loosing gallon(in rain)
it's normal 924 or 924 S ? great sound :)

This really makes me want to drive mine!!
