I vaguely remember reading a sports magazine in early April 1996 and reading about how they had a hunch that John Smoltz might wind up doing great things in that season. They wound up doing quite well that year, if i remember correctly. They even had a cartoon about it--including a fake ad for ball players suffering concussions called "Smoltz Salts". God, my childhood...i miss you :')
I remember this from late grade school, early middle school when i lived in Virginia. So many spring and summer days & nights with my grandmother, we'd stay up late watching the A-Braves and drinking pop and talking about everything. I'm still a fan, but unfortunately after my grandmother's death in 2007 the team went downhill pretty fast. I may live in the Philly suburbs now but the Braves are still my team. :')
The only time I ever saw the Braves play before recent was when they came to San Francisco to play the Giants..used to wear my Brave tee shirt and windbreaker to the games..
Does anyone remember the old theme? Not from the 80's, but I'm talking from waaay back to the beginning of TBS in the 70's? I would love to hear that theme again!!
this almost made me cry too - - i grew up in atlanta and this brings back so many good feelings and memories watching them every night and/or going to the game. as a professional composer this is one of the most well done sports themes i know of, perhaps tied with or slightly ahead of john tesh's NBA on NBC theme. Thanks KDviewer07 for uploading this. Did Eddie Horst compose this?
best theme song ever!!! i remember being in middle school hearing this!!! this is when you knew the braves game was coming on.. almost make me cry though when i think of skip caray... this man loved the braves... (Braves win, Braves win, Braves win, Braves win!!!!!!!!!!!) they should consider bringing this back
I love the braves so much and hate the phillies and yankees. The yankees stole our dynasty and now i hate the Phillies because they are now at the spot we once hold. And they are chokes as well.
I grew up in South Florida. I became a Braves fan in 1988 and still remain loyal to this day. I don't care if the Braves are the worst team or the best. They will always be my team. Living in West Tennessee right now, I still chop with great pride. I love my Bravos and always will. GO BRAVOS!!!!!!!!
@yospuynik I'm a Mets fan, but from like 1998-2002 I would enjoy watching the Braves, mainly because of Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, both Joneses, Seanez, and McGlinchy. :)
its so awesome to read all of these comments of how people all over the country grew up watching braves....me I'm from Georgia personally but idc where i live the rest of my life i will always be a braves fan.......CHOP 'EM 2011 GO GET EM BOYS!
living here in south arkansas there were no teams to root for--however TBS brought one from atlanta, georgia for me to get behind and from age 9 since mid-80's i have been a braves fan!! i don't get to watch them much anymore since ted turner sold team, however it has not changed anything!! IAM STILL THE BIGGEST FAN WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI!!
Wow the memories. I was 10 years old living in Atlanta in 1991. Grew up watching the Braves on TBS. I remember going to school on Braves day and everyone would have little tomahawks cut into their hair-I was so upset my mom wouldn't let me. Good times
I am a Dodger fan but watched a ton of braves games because they were on tbs. I mean...how often do you get to watch an all time great pitcher on 3 out of 5 days? Even #4,#5 guys like Steve Avery, Denny Neagle, and Kevin Millwood were no slouches by any means. But man I miss that trio....especially Maddux. You will never see anyone like that guy again. He was more an artist than an athlete.
I grew up a Cleveland Indians fan, and even though they beat Chief Wahoo in 1995, the Braves were my second favorite team, and it was because of the good people at TBS. I liked the Braves so much growing up that my mom had to buy a Braves cap for me when I was eight. Having Braves baseball on TBS meant that I could watch a game on nights the Tribe had off. Thanks, TBS for defining my childhood.
Don't forget, how many teams had three future hall of fame pitchers. Even if only Maddux and Glavine get in, Smoltz made those guys even better because they had a starting three who could easily be number 1 for any team. They have easily gone down as the greatest underachievers. Unfortunately, that's the way dynasties are measured by most-- championships. I still consider them a dynasty, even know the Yanks had more success. Lol, as a met fan, I didn't like either.
@Captaincrunch000 The Yanks had more postseason* success. While most judge overall success mainly on postseason results, I put a premium on the Braves' tremendous overall success year after year in the regular season. They blew some postseason series, sure, but they were also snakebitten, losing the classic '91 Series to the Twins, the '92 Series could've went either way.The '96 Series was the most heartbreaking, Game 4's collapse was tragic. And '97 they were robbed by Livan's huge strikezone.
@ptypaco i meant on the road, how di you still lose the series after winning the 1st 2 games on the road? get out of here with that excuses shit "it was fixed" bullshit just admit the fact that you choked like you always do
@TheUltimatePhillyFan "AT HOME" it was not. The Braves won the first two games of the 1996 World Series at Yankee Stadium and then went to Fulton County & Yankee Stadium to lose the next four in a row. Whether they choked or not, I don't know, but it began my complete hatred of all things Yankees right there. The 1999 sweep sealed it. Funny thing is that I've been living in NYC since 2002 & I still hate the Yankees and walk around with my Braves caps. But the Away one.
@bammybound Great point, they need to do a 30 for 30 on the Braves dynasty. To the poster who says the Braves were not a dynasty - you are wrong. 14 straight division titles is the definition of dynasty. Don't know why you are so sour. Even the Yankees with their limitless payroll and resources could only muster 9 straight titles from 98-06 and all of them were titles of a 5-team division. The Braves' titles from 91-93 were from divisions with 6, 6, and 7 teams in it.
Yep, hard not to get teary-eyed hearing this. I was in HS/College while this was the official tune ... amazing how a tune like this can bring back exact memories, make you feel like you're back in the room watching that game as a college kid with your buddies, or at home with your dad. That's what this does for me.
:) i had a giant book filled with braves baseball cards in the late 90's wen i was like 7 or 8 and i used to sit dow n and go thru the whole book with my grandma on nights the braves had off and i would sing this song wen i started to open the book lol...i loved the intro they had in 1998(?) with all the braves merchandise and logos and little tv with parts of games on them.
Hello again everybody, along with Joe Simpson, Skip Caray welcoming you to another night of Atlanta Braves baseball from [insert City name here] where the Braves.....
I remember when the Braves were televised on TBS it was always song that would play. This song would start and then at about 00:30 Skip Caray would say "Hello again everyone welcoming you to another night of Atlanta Braves baseball here on TBS". Then he would talk about the last few previous games. And then of course when the the game ended they would always show the highlights of that particular game along with this song. I wish the Braves would go back to TBS. Those were the good ole days.
This song brings back so many memories. If you told me to hum it before now, I might not have been able to, but after this video its been engrained in my head for the past 3 days. Thanks for posting!!!! Lets go braves, beat the Giants!!!!
does anyone remember the rap song about the braves from like 92. it was called "I'm Bad Like The Braves". been searching everywhere for it and cant find it!
I'm not even a Braves fan, but man I used to love watching them on TBS when I was a kid... And I wouldn't miss them coming to Dodger Stadium or Jack Murphy Stadium.. Loved David Justice as a kid-- Chipper, Crime Dog, Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Lemke, Klesko, Blauser, Grissom etc...They were so underrated and should have won at least 3 titles IMO...
@Billups97 well when the Yankees had Rivera, among other *cough* advantages, it's hard. I believe it was Smoltz, maybe Glavine who said that if they had a Rivera like closer they'd have won about 5 titles.
@Anglefan12 As an avid Braves fan, I can say that your guys beat us in '96 because our bats choked. Yeah Wohlers gave up the homer to Leyritz, but Atlanta scored a total of 2 runs in the next two games. Pitching was outstanding, just couldn't get the big hit. Tip my hat to you in '99. We were clearly outmatched that year.
@valoguy O I'm not a Yankees fan, I hate the bastards. I'm a huge Braves fan. When I said the Yankees had other *cough* advantages, I was referring to roids. The bravos, in my opinion, weren't choke artists at all like people say, sure they only won 1 world series, but the team was one dimensional, starting pitching. The offense usually wasn't that good and neither was the bullpen. It was the genius of cox and schurholtz that won all those division titles.
The only better baseball theme I can think of might be the one CBS used to open their post-season telecasts in the early '90's (one that would also bring back some sweet memories for Braves fans since it was what was used for games like Sid Bream's slide in '92 or Avery and Smoltz's shutouts to finish off Pittsburgh in '91.
@norr4636 OMG, this is AWESOME!!!!! Do you have any idea if something like that exists anywhere for Game 7 of that series? I've got all the games on tape, but not all of the pre-game shows are on those tapes, and these prologues are AMAZING!!!
o man i got my gf into the braves now. i wish skip was still around to do the broadcast. we still love chip though. awesome vid, brings back good memories. thanks very much
I so wish that the Braves would insist on this music for all broadcasts. Many a late nights, this theme was the last thing that I heard before going to sleep.
FWIW, the older theme (circa the early 1990s) some of you have been looking for is also online and available on the TVPMM site linked above. Just click on the "Atlanta Braves" link on the left. They even have the awesome rain delay cuts.
Man, this brings back some great memories of not only my childhood, but also my college years. I used to watch this theme with my grandmother, who was a huge fan and loved her Braves no matter what! Then I went on to college and people knew the Braves because of them being America's team and I used to hear this theme every night I had the chance to watch them! My grandmother just passed, so a small tear comes to my eye when I watched this!
My first ever Braves game when they still had this theme I remember them blaring it on the PA system in the stadium. I remember the chill going down my spine.
I grew up listening to Pet Van Weiren, Skip Carey, Don Sutton, and Joe Simpson and hearing the TBS theme every night in the baseball season. Thanks for making this video.
Real glad you posted this. I favorited it. I'm a huge Braves fan. I went to Game 1 of the 1995 World Series against the Indians and Game 3 against the Yankees in 1996. Won one and lost one. I hate that the Braves aren't on TBS anymore. The Braves are a national brand and should be on TBS but TBS and AOL (merging with Turner) had screwed everything up from the Braves to WCW. Such a great theme. Go Braves!
I love this theme so much. Great memories and we all miss Skip Carey. I hope he is announcing games up in heaven because him, Harry Carey, Jack Buck, Ernie Harwell, Harry Kalas are the best ever to announce baseball!!!
Maybe Jason Heyward ("JayJay") of the 2010 Atlanta Braves can ignite another streak like the team had in the 1990's. That kid has potential. Maybe not this season, but 2011? Remember David "Chief" Justice and Tom Glavine started in Atlanta when the team was horrible, and we all know what happened shortly after :-)
@TheTravelingIdiot His nickname is the J-Hey kid, not "JayJay" and he's doing just fine this year so far. He's hitting .301 with 20 R - 8 HR - 28 RBI and 2 SB. AND he's only 20 years old! Go Bravos!
@mkost84 Yeah I worded that wrong. I meant the team as a whole may not be playoff material this year, but possibly in 2011. But Jason Heyward is going to be the next big thing in baseball if he stays healthy.
I remember watching these guys on TV back in the 90's and enjoying the color commentary they gave. These guys made watching baseball enjoyable. It really sucked when the braves stopped playing on TBS.
@cooljr1986 I agree man. I can't even watch Braves games any more. I hardly get to see any where I live now. I loved watching Braves baseball on TBS all through the 90's. I miss it pretty bad right now!
Simply Amazing. Im left speechless and on the verge of tears. I think for anyone growing up in the 90s this theme music reminds us of not just Atlanta Braves baseball but of being a kid. It reminds me of summer nights. Time with my family in front of the TV. Skip Caray. Joy. Goodness who could have thought this theme music could mean so so so much to me. Thanks so much KDviewer07.
Man, good memories of this theme....I'm from NC and was six years old, when this theme debuted (the same year the Braves won the World Series) and have fond memories of watching Braves games and all...Great memories. I miss the "REAL TBS" (Braves Baseball, Cartoons, Movies, NBA Basketball, etc.)...Do you by any chance have the TNT Sunday Night Football Theme from 1995-1997, as well as the NBA on TBS theme from 1995-2000?
Oh my God. I just experienced a nostalgia overload like no other. I grew up in Atlanta during the 90s and early 2000s and the Braves were the first team I truly loved and became a fan of. This theme is my childhood.
Oh. My. God. I remember this theme like it was yesterday. I loved it. @nintendodailyvideos... this theme is also burned into my memory... I could never forget it.
There was also a slow version of this theme that they would play when there was a rain delay... and also a theme they would play when going on commercial between innings... it would be cool if someone could find those too.
@badjr0 I think I know which one you're talking about. I remember back then when I used to watch Cartoon Network a lot there was a 15-second commercial with Don Sutton talking about ordering Braves merchandise and that slow version of the theme was played throughout. Unfortunately, I don't think I can find that theme anywhere. Sorry. But If I ever do find it I'll post it up.
@badjr0 I recall the two that you're thinking of. The slow version for rain delays was sort of jazzy in a bluesy sense (appropriate for a rain delay), and the theme while heading into commercials during inning breaks proved dynamic and momentous.
I remember the one posted here more for the ends of games.
@badjr0 i remember the slower version too! i remember it being played the first game in shea after 9/11, instead of the regular version it was very fitting. ive actually been looking for this one for a few years now thanks SO much @kdviewer07 !
@tigerkill1 yea that is too bad....ted turner sold everything he owned pretty much and now its all undersome elses control but hey the braves are still here and i see '10 world champs!
I am a Yankee fan, but I would catch some Braves games on TBS sometimes, when the Yankees aren't playing. I also remember Skip calling the 2000 A.L.D.S. on NBC between the Yankees and the A's. He was a great announcer, and coming from a Yankee fan, thanks Skip for making the Braves games that I watched enjoyable.
You're welcome for the find, KD. Like I said before, this theme brings back great memories (and some not so great ones) in the Braves/Phillies rivalry. And it's one of the best baseball themes ever penned, as far as I'm concerned.
@nintendodailyvideos, unfortunately i have no reminiscence of the 1991-95 theme, sorry. Again I was born in 1991 so I either must have been too young to remember or I've never listened it.
@KDviewer07 It sucks you're only 19. '91-'96 were some phenomenal years. I was 9 when '91 happened and it was incredible. All of Georgia had Braves fever for those 5 years.
God, my childhood...i miss you :')

does anyone remember the rap song about the braves from like 92. it was called "I'm Bad Like The Braves". been searching everywhere for it and cant find it!
adclark100482 1 year ago
I'm not even a Braves fan, but man I used to love watching them on TBS when I was a kid... And I wouldn't miss them coming to Dodger Stadium or Jack Murphy Stadium.. Loved David Justice as a kid-- Chipper, Crime Dog, Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Lemke, Klesko, Blauser, Grissom etc...They were so underrated and should have won at least 3 titles IMO...
Billups97 1 year ago
@Billups97 well when the Yankees had Rivera, among other *cough* advantages, it's hard. I believe it was Smoltz, maybe Glavine who said that if they had a Rivera like closer they'd have won about 5 titles.
Anglefan12 1 year ago
@Anglefan12 As an avid Braves fan, I can say that your guys beat us in '96 because our bats choked. Yeah Wohlers gave up the homer to Leyritz, but Atlanta scored a total of 2 runs in the next two games. Pitching was outstanding, just couldn't get the big hit. Tip my hat to you in '99. We were clearly outmatched that year.
valoguy 1 year ago
@valoguy O I'm not a Yankees fan, I hate the bastards. I'm a huge Braves fan. When I said the Yankees had other *cough* advantages, I was referring to roids. The bravos, in my opinion, weren't choke artists at all like people say, sure they only won 1 world series, but the team was one dimensional, starting pitching. The offense usually wasn't that good and neither was the bullpen. It was the genius of cox and schurholtz that won all those division titles.

Reminds me of high school so much. Go Braves!!!!

When the d-bags at AOL-Time Warner threw Ted Turner off the Board, that was the end of several things:
Braves Ownership
Braves on TBS
WCW
Man I miss those days.

The only better baseball theme I can think of might be the one CBS used to open their post-season telecasts in the early '90's (one that would also bring back some sweet memories for Braves fans since it was what was used for games like Sid Bream's slide in '92 or Avery and Smoltz's shutouts to finish off Pittsburgh in '91.

norr4636 1 year ago
@norr4636 OMG, this is AWESOME!!!!! Do you have any idea if something like that exists anywhere for Game 7 of that series? I've got all the games on tape, but not all of the pre-game shows are on those tapes, and these prologues are AMAZING!!!
ADEAL416 1 year ago
@ADEAL416 Yeah, I watched it every night since I founded it last week..It brought back memories...I was 14 years old during that World Series Classic

hasselschwert15 1 year ago
I so wish that the Braves would insist on this music for all broadcasts. Many a late nights, this theme was the last thing that I heard before going to sleep.
mjone182 1 year ago
FWIW, the older theme (circa the early 1990s) some of you have been looking for is also online and available on the TVPMM site linked above. Just click on the "Atlanta Braves" link on the left. They even have the awesome rain delay cuts.
Hope you enjoy.

I remember the chill going down my spine.
djtrumpet11 1 year ago

Go Braves!
HokiesAndDawgs 1 year ago 2
I love this theme so much. Great memories and we all miss Skip Carey. I hope he is announcing games up in heaven because him, Harry Carey, Jack Buck, Ernie Harwell, Harry Kalas are the best ever to announce baseball!!!

Maybe Jason Heyward ("JayJay") of the 2010 Atlanta Braves can ignite another streak like the team had in the 1990's. That kid has potential. Maybe not this season, but 2011? Remember David "Chief" Justice and Tom Glavine started in Atlanta when the team was horrible, and we all know what happened shortly after :-)
TheTravelingIdiot 1 year ago
@TheTravelingIdiot His nickname is the J-Hey kid, not "JayJay" and he's doing just fine this year so far. He's hitting .301 with 20 R - 8 HR - 28 RBI and 2 SB. AND he's only 20 years old! Go Bravos!
mkost84 1 year ago
@mkost84 Yeah I worded that wrong. I meant the team as a whole may not be playoff material this year, but possibly in 2011. But Jason Heyward is going to be the next big thing in baseball if he stays healthy.

can you download this music off the website?

I miss the "REAL TBS" (Braves Baseball, Cartoons, Movies, NBA Basketball, etc.)...Do you by any chance have the TNT Sunday Night Football Theme from 1995-1997, as well as the NBA on TBS theme from 1995-2000?
thatdudecozz89 1 year ago
Great memories. Can't help but get a little misty eyed.

This is a masterpiece by Edd Kalehoff. It is the perfect reminder of the glory years of Braves baseball.
Now does anyone have the theme from around 2005-06?
FreedomRockTampa 1 year ago
Oh my God. I just experienced a nostalgia overload like no other. I grew up in Atlanta during the 90s and early 2000s and the Braves were the first team I truly loved and became a fan of. This theme is my childhood.
18to87 1 year ago 2
Oh. My. God. I remember this theme like it was yesterday. I loved it. @nintendodailyvideos... this theme is also burned into my memory... I could never forget it.
There was also a slow version of this theme that they would play when there was a rain delay... and also a theme they would play when going on commercial between innings... it would be cool if someone could find those too.
badjr0 1 year ago 11
@badjr0 I think I know which one you're talking about. I remember back then when I used to watch Cartoon Network a lot there was a 15-second commercial with Don Sutton talking about ordering Braves merchandise and that slow version of the theme was played throughout. Unfortunately, I don't think I can find that theme anywhere. Sorry. But If I ever do find it I'll post it up.
KDviewer07 1 year ago
@badjr0 I recall the two that you're thinking of. The slow version for rain delays was sort of jazzy in a bluesy sense (appropriate for a rain delay), and the theme while heading into commercials during inning breaks proved dynamic and momentous.
I remember the one posted here more for the ends of games.
joekiddlouischama 1 year ago
@badjr0 i remember the slower version too! i remember it being played the first game in shea after 9/11, instead of the regular version it was very fitting. ive actually been looking for this one for a few years now thanks SO much @kdviewer07 !
Abraves257 1 year ago
@badjr0 ... yeah, the slow theme was more bluesy.

I think if the Phils have off season the Braves can be this year 'sleeper' and capture at least the 2010 NL wild card.
USAGiant 2 years ago
You're welcome for the find, KD. Like I said before, this theme brings back great memories (and some not so great ones) in the Braves/Phillies rivalry. And it's one of the best baseball themes ever penned, as far as I'm concerned.

In relation to my last comment, I would like to say time warner can suck balls seeing as how they own TBS and it was their decision.
guitardude1685 2 years ago
TBS can suck balls now. The Atlanta Braves help make them the network they are today, then they just drop the Braves like it never happend.
guitardude1685 2 years ago 2
Sounds nice although I have no recollection of this song at all. The only TBS song I know is the one they have now.
This older version sounds pretty nice though. Thanks for uploading

It's pretty ironic that you got the Skip Caray photo right at the climax. Very epic piece of work
