There is no doubt that the U.S. is in a bad situation because of 30 years of failing to drill domestically or building new refineries. That is why we are in a position where we are buying oil from folks like Chavez who opening treat us as an enemy. That kind of behavior from the U.S. is also being repeated in the middle east and it is the product of the U.S. not being self sufficient. On the Code Pink interview, I think the Evans statements did embarrass them.
I am confused about the president's position on Chavez because he denounces the guy and encourages Venezuelans to overthrow the guy (see the coup attempt in 2001) but in 2005 the United States purchased more than 50% of Venezuela's exports (almost all oil). This information is according to the CIA. I read it in their 2008 world fact book ISBN 1-60239-080-0
BTW,I oppose the war in Iraq but I do not like Code pink. I think many comments in this interview should embarrass code pink members
