I remember watching this show when it was on TV on both ABC and CBS. The show was very good in the first 4 to 5 years but then the kids starting getting older and the storylines had to change, I didn't like Brendan getting dropped and wasn't a fan of aging Lily-that seemed like a "Cousin Oliver" move to me. It did seem to me the last season the show had outlives its course-and while it was still funny it felt kinda stale., and by the next year Mark probably would have been gone also.

In the last episode Mark's final line of the entire series is "Frank, the toilets are backed up again!" How the mighty have fallen. I literally cried when I heard that. I mean by the last episode Mark had become a joke... he only appeared in the background and never said anything. He also only appeared in 5 episodes in the last season. He was getting the Brendan treatment. Was anyone else angry and sad with the treatment of Mark? He was an interesting character who still deserved lines!

That's strange because Cody's there one episode and then he's gone the next. Remember that hyper kid that Frank's wife hired to work on his construction crew? The guy who tried to ride all the rides at Disney World. Was that who they tried to replace Cody with for comic relief? How long did he last? Overall, what was his success in filling Cody's shoes?

Flash was the guy you're thinking of, and I think the general consensus was that he failed to replace Cody. Rich was (arguably) the only successful of the "new" characters.

Bronson Pinchot moved on after the last ABC season to star in CBS' Meego, which shared "The Friday Night Block Party" with Step by Step and Family Matters, among others. Meggo was cancelled after only a handful of episodes, which the older SBS and FM outliving it for only the rest of that season.

It was very likely that SBS would have continued beyond season 7 if the ratings were high enough on CBS. Family Matters was supposed to have gotten a 10th season, but I believe many core cast members were thinking of leaving (in addition to the few important ones that had already jumped ship prior to the CBS season). However, the Eye moved both shows around on the Friday lineup too much and then put both on hiatus, really killing off what audiences they still had going.

I find it very strange that Jean-Luc and one of Frank's kids were cut from the show in season 7 and Mark had a very small role as well. Were all the episodes pretty much focused on Rich, Dana, and JT? Please explain. Merci.

Season 7 aired on CBS instead of ABC, resulting in the dropping of Brendan and (apparently) Jean-Luc. I don't know whether the focus went entirely to Rich/Dana/JT or not, but I remember a lot of it being there. I'd recommend checking Wikipedia's episode list for Step by Step for that.

I think the amuesment park they are at is Paramount's Kings Dominion in Virginia. The coaster is the Rebal Yell and the ocean is edited in. If you look hard it looks weird.
