Horrible intro....looks like ABC just half-assed it...also, how did the youngest girl get to 5 years old that fast? She wasnt on there most of the 7-year run of the show, and suddenly, she is in school? a show that started so well and crumbled in every way after..
I remember watching this show when it was on TV on both ABC and CBS. The show was very good in the first 4 to 5 years but then the kids starting getting older and the storylines had to change, I didn't like Brendan getting dropped and wasn't a fan of aging Lily-that seemed like a "Cousin Oliver" move to me. It did seem to me the last season the show had outlives its course-and while it was still funny it felt kinda stale., and by the next year Mark probably would have been gone also.
@iLuvPizza95 sorry for the long waited response, but he has retired from acting. STEP BY STEP was his last acting part. I read somewhere and i can't remember where that he was working at his parents gas station.
@iLuvPizza95 from what ive gathered, he was just written out of the show....no finale or explanation....i wondered the same thing......this was the last season of the show anyway, so not a lot of harm done.
What a shitty opening. It's just their photos without any scenes from the show or footage of them together. This opening is almost unnecessary which is a shame with a 'family' show.
really dam i didn't know that probably because all of the mids of late to earlie 80s were growing up along with the people in the show and they were moving on with there lifes and going on to better things but i miss these shows brings back my child hood
They should have had a spin-off called Livin' with You featuring Rich & Dana and the first episode should have been called
Not the Flu - Rich gets the flu from overworking and then ends up giving it to Al and JT then Dana must take care of all three of them becuase Rich & Dana are engaged and share an apartment with JT & Al
My favorite one was Christine Lakin. With every episode I was just amazed at how hot she was. My sister's husband is in the Army and he actually got to meet her. I'm jealous.
I can't believe Dana dated Rich I mean really according to the episode The Understudy he tells desparate Dana who wants a court job if she needs help to look at his briefs LOL !!!!!!
Ha, that picture they chose for J.T. was funny. As it zooms in on it, you think they're gonna choose one of the semi-decent pics on the paper...and they end up choosing that one. That goofy pose always cracked me up.
In the last episode Mark's final line of the entire series is "Frank, the toilets are backed up again!" How the mighty have fallen. I literally cried when I heard that. I mean by the last episode Mark had become a joke... he only appeared in the background and never said anything. He also only appeared in 5 episodes in the last season. He was getting the Brendan treatment. Was anyone else angry and sad with the treatment of Mark? He was an interesting character who still deserved lines!
I wonder if this show will ever be released on dvd! I love it, and since they released the crappy oh-so-innocent Full House series on dvd (which is from the exact same people), I think it's more than in its place that this series comes out also!
This intro was way too short, and many of the actors were already gone from the show. It looked like it would meet its demise soon enough, as it sadly did.
I just almost had a heart attack! I thought Cody was gone at the end of Season 6, not 5! Who was the moron who decided to get rid of Cody? I don't care if he beats his wife (which he didn't), they should have ended the show without him.
That's strange because Cody's there one episode and then he's gone the next. Remember that hyper kid that Frank's wife hired to work on his construction crew? The guy who tried to ride all the rides at Disney World. Was that who they tried to replace Cody with for comic relief? How long did he last? Overall, what was his success in filling Cody's shoes?
I'm pretty sure Cody went off on a "secret mission to Russia" or something, but I haven't watched the episodes recently enough to recall.
Flash was the guy you're thinking of, and I think the general consensus was that he failed to replace Cody. Rich was (arguably) the only successful of the "new" characters.
Where is Jean-Luc in the intro? Don't tell me he left after only one season! I actually liked him as much if not better than Cody. Please say he doesn't leave too! I agree, Rich was an amazing character; I was glad to see more of him once the Codemaster left.
Bronson Pinchot moved on after the last ABC season to star in CBS' Meego, which shared "The Friday Night Block Party" with Step by Step and Family Matters, among others. Meggo was cancelled after only a handful of episodes, which the older SBS and FM outliving it for only the rest of that season.
I have a few other questions. Were there plans for an 8th (or further) season for SBS or was the 7th season always going to be its last? Did the cast know that the 7th season finale would be the series finale? Was the 7th season finale written as a series finale (the episode where they almost sell their house) or was it written as a season finale (with plans to have the show continue)? Please answer me all of these questions. Thanks.
It was very likely that SBS would have continued beyond season 7 if the ratings were high enough on CBS. Family Matters was supposed to have gotten a 10th season, but I believe many core cast members were thinking of leaving (in addition to the few important ones that had already jumped ship prior to the CBS season). However, the Eye moved both shows around on the Friday lineup too much and then put both on hiatus, really killing off what audiences they still had going.
Those jerks! It was still funny, darn it! I would have liked to see at least a couple more seasons. At least the the final episode served as a series finale, even though it didn't really seem as one. Not to sound weird, but I cried after watching it because I knew there should have been more episodes.

Were all the episodes pretty much focused on Rich, Dana, and JT? Please explain. Merci.
Season 7 aired on CBS instead of ABC, resulting in the dropping of Brendan and (apparently) Jean-Luc. I don't know whether the focus went entirely to Rich/Dana/JT or not, but I remember a lot of it being there. I'd recommend checking Wikipedia's episode list for Step by Step for that.
Didn't they burn off most of the season in the summer because the ratings weren't good? I'm just glad there was another season because I still enjoy the show in season 7. The Codemaster is sorely missed though.

2). Josh (Brendan Lambert) Byrne was discontinued. Sent off to "The Island of Misfit Sitcom Characters" ala Chuck Cunningham, Judy Winslow & Henry Finnerty.
