God forbid people encourage a little tolerance and diversity when it comes to gays. THAT'S referred to as "promoting homosexuality", as if being gay is just some temporary club that people join when they're young and leave as time goes by. But STRAIGHTS (of which I am one) can flaunt their sexuality in public ALL THE DAMN TIME, makeout, grope each other, etc. with little talk from folks who are "offended!"

Section 28 stopped taxpayer's money to be used to fund leaflets and other stuff which promote homosexual relationships to young children. I dont see the problem at all?

It isn't a choice, and that law prevented the most vulnerable gays from getting the vital support they needed. It also contributed to the utter hatred and rampant discrimination by preventing educators from tackling or even discussing homophobia or homosexuality. The vast majority of scientific bodies recognise that it is healthiest for a person to accept their sexuality and be affirmed for it.

@organist12345 "Promote homosexual relationships to young children", what did you think they were doing? Recruiting? There wasn't an application form in the back of it. 'Awareness' is probably more fitting. Section 28 is no more. If sex education has to be available to school children these days then so does sexuality awareness. Perhaps a leaflet is not the right way to go about it??

It was a law aiming at rubbing in the faces and legally sanctioning more community hatred and violence against what was then an acutely fragile and vulnerable group in a widely homophobic society.

I am a straight man but I have always believed that Section 28 was wrong. What's the problem eh? Men can have sexual relationships with other men and women with other women.
