Why was the AMA performance a mistake? It brought him to the attention of of people who hadn't heard of him before (the entire population of the US doesn't watch or follow AI, never mind many people around the world .... and let's face it, he hasn't exactly had Susan Boyle style hype). The broadcast of it in other countries over the last few weeks has led to people who don't watch AI seeking him out and the FYE video selling in countries where they didn't even know who he was before.

At the Jingle Ball in Florida, Adam was asked by the DJ to sing a capella part of this song. And he did exactly that - no preparation, no band - just sang perfectly. Of course he meant it. It was a yodel-like twist, like the way he sings "nervous" in Mad World. He did the same in his performance on SYTYCD. I wish he'd sung it like this on the recording. Not many male singers can do that. It's the domain of Mariah, Leona, etc. Seriously, I'm appalled at the lack of musical knowledge of some people who purport to be music fans. It says a lot, and none of it very good, for the effect that being subjected to endless synching has done for some listeners.
