You know when some meat head is gonna stick you up or rob a store or even want to kill you for something stupid. They could hold u up with a knife. No one expects to be mugged or robbed, and I'm not gonna wait for someone to give me a reason to carry. Ill be prepared.

Even as a young child when I first saw this show I understood it was satire< social commentary framed through humour I find it sad that 30 + years later you guys are debating it like Archie is a person with a valid viewpoint instead of a character created to stand for all that was wrong headed about society (a commonly held view in those days ,this show was produced by a major network i.e. those in power)

If you didn't have a gun, a knife or other weapon would be substituted which makes it a moot point. When you think of criminals who obtain guns and kill or hold people at gunpoint, they typically have illegal black market rods. The government can't keep drugs or guns from the black market , yet we try to blame legally obtained guns.

I didn't get this episode, the ending is forced and doesn't really prove a point. The guy was obviously a criminal, so if guns were illegal, what would stop a criminal from carrying one? Were the writers trying to say that people commit armed robberies ONLY with registered, legal weapons? The right to bear arms protects us from the tyranny of an oppressive Gov't. I live in Chile and here we have almost an entire ban on firearms, they are almost impossible to get legally or even illegally. 3 weeks ago I was robbed at gunpoint by 3 kids while waiting for a bus. Obviously these bans do nothing but keep self-defense out of the hands of the public. But on the other hand there's 7 times more gun crime in the US than in Chile so it's really a complicated issue. I think that if I had a gun tho it would just have been stolen and would be 1 more on the street

That's not a Michael Moore statistic, it's based on the fact that the rate of firearm related homicide per 100'000 people in Chile is 0.15 and the rate in the US is 7.79, so regardless of the size of the country we're only dealing with a sample of 100'000 people...in Chile 0.15 of those people will be killed in a manner related to firearms, in the US 7.79 of them will be.

I personally support the right of private citizens to bear arms, but I do think more regulations are needed in the US for gun ownership.

In England they have gun control & almost every day I read about another knife crime there. It's not about the weapons, it's about a culture that has no respect for life. You can kill unwanted babies before they are born & kill unwanted old people before their time. What message does that send to young people about the value of their lives or others' lives? Life is cheap; people are to be used & disposed of. If life is sacred, killing is rare. What's the Chilean attitude toward life?
