Real time would have been a heck of a thing for dragon quest. but I kinda prefer it turn based. I get my real time fix from games like kingdom hearts. I like that dragon quest is the more manageable fighting system. it's perfect. Although I won't say the same thing to Pokemon's fighting system which is also turn based.

That said, this game is a lot of fun. I love being able to create all my characters and customize their gender/appearance. It's funny, I named my character Aingael (Irish for angel) and it turns out you are one.
My only gripe is I wish I could turn my helmets' appearance off.

@DnjnHadouken I know that this reply is kind of late, but i'm pretty sure that the game is turn based. When an enemy on the screen interlocks with a character, they go into battle. You select what attack your character will do and then they will preform it and you can see them attack the monster.
It's turn based. See, when DQIX was unveiled before, in 2005, it was an action-RPG like what you see here. But, fans got pissed about it, so Level-5, in 2006, not long after this trailer came out, retooled the game and changed the menus somewhat and made the battles turn-based. That's why it took the game 4 years to come out in Japan.

Pokemon battle is about preparation, 1on1 battle style. If ur team ready (high LV, effective element) u will probably win the fight.
FF battle is about strategy, even max lv some boss still unbeatable if u didn't have a good strategy.
Bollocks. The pokemon battle system is much more complex than you think. EV's, DV's, IV's, base stat, stat increasing items, held items, natures, move typing, pokemon typing, abilities, and hell, even breeding with it's moves. and with 4 move slots, you don't have much flexibility. They do a grand job in making it seem simple though.

Hahahaha, you've never played Pokemon if you don't know how competitive it is. It requires the most strategy to play. Beating the game is naturally easy because everybody wants to do it quickly. Training and breeding afterwards is what people actually enjoy doing.

Final fantasy hasen't been the same through the whole series, but YOU don't notice it. Each pokemon game has the same battle system. FF has different ones, some real time, some timed, some by turns. Each game also has it's own spell systems. Pokemon also copied some from FF, item names (potion, elixir, etc) FF used it first.

It really depends, since Square likes to use different formulas that usually end up in failure(see: Final Fantasy II.) Final Fantasy is more story oriented, but Dragon Quest seems to just like being old school with a few large original ideas peppered in.

And to the 13 million plus fans of Pokemon, each new Pokemon is a new change to the game. That's where Pokemon has its innovation and diversity, amongst the hundreds of different Pokemon and team combinations. Final Fantasy 7 was an over-hyped JRPG. Pokemon is in a league of its own.

I think people just complain about the platform switch because they don't own the platform. I admit initially being skeptical but after playing the remake of DQ IV on DS I have to say that I have full confidence in them. They can really pull it off. Dragon Quest was NEVER about the graphics, it's about a huge game world and fun game play. I am sure they can pull it off.

The character design you seen in dragon quest 4,5,6 remakes coming to ds will NOT be the same design used in dragon quest 9, trust me. Dragon Quest 9 is using the ps2 dq8 designs.
The game engine shown is used in current DQ games like JOKER. It will be upgraded for dq9 so don't expect it to look like that. Also, don't expect it to be an action rpg, that was just an early concept but rumors say its going to be turned based still.
Lets just hope that they don't go STYLUS crazy and force 100% of the controls on the stylus, that is just too gay.

What I dont understand is how you can be a Dragon Quest fan and care about graphics, hell how can you be an RPG fan care about Graphics, it's all about the story and gameplay, and that should be said about all games, gonna get this at launch for US.

maybe the worst thing on this DQ it's the fact that they leave the random battle sistem. The random battle it's a creation of DQ. It's really a loss.

The "real time stuff" is a part of the game dedicated to questing. It's an addition, not an alteration, there's nothing wrong with that.
The battle system will remain turn-based.

I see. Be that so, I have been told of some stuff that I do not still wish to play with in this. Taking out random encounters will lose the Dragon Quest feel, and give a more Grandia Feel. Grandia was good, but I don't want that. I don't know, the whole ideas of 9 that I have seen disappoint me. I might as well sleep it away until they bring it back to the SNES/PSX styles.

When did I say I was "Peeved"? All of my favorite games changed to screw over the classic fanbases. If this one goes down in a sinking ship, it won't bother me. Sonic, Megaman, FF, Mario, Metroid, and Star Ocean all have already done that.Also, I never played Joker. That was not listed at DW9, it was a side game. This is the official 9. Sorry, I am not supporting it. I hardly wanted to support 8, but I did. =/

I don't know why you think Mario has changed much. Final Fantasy has been a gay anime since the second game. Metroid had a different developer entirely, and the games were still good.

I liked Mario world and SMB3. None of the current Mario's give that feel anymore. Mario feels more like Gex 2 and Gex 3 more than Classic mario. Your use of "Gay" is pathetic, and so what if it is a different developer? There have been games that changed developers, but never left their style. Metroid never "had" to. Super and Fusion were terrific....hated the primes.

Actually, if you looked at Other M, you can see, that it is 3D, but has the structure of the old school Metroid Games. Just because it is 3D does not mean it had to take the route of Prime.
No, I play them because the classic style IS what is fun to me. SE is turning all their games into the same shit. Look at FF. They have no more random encounters either. Soon, you will not be able to tell the difference between FF and DQ in terms of gameplay. Just you wait.

There's no other game like Pokemon. It is better than Final Fantasy. That's too objective, though. So, I'll let sales be the decider of that. Final Fantasy is getting OLD. I mean, 20 years, and now they just keep remaking Final Fantasy 7. After 13 games, and a LOT of side games, it's getting OLD.

The red,blue,leafgreen,diamond,sapphire, emerald etc. are all based on the same thing. Beat the elite 4 and then go to a secret battle area after you do. It was cool back then. But now it's just getting retarded how they are adding so many new pokemon.

There are so many different spin-offs of Pokemon, and you're complaining about the original franchise not changing to your tastes? Have you even played it? With each new game comes an extreme addition to the battle system and 100 new Pokemon. Final Fantasy has had 12, 13 games and how many of them are innovative besides graphics?
Pokemon has had 4 and has achieved great levels of success and innovation. It's the most in-depth RPG in terms of strategy. Final Fantasy cannot compete.

Not changing to my tastes? I couldn't care less. Yes I have played it, I played the originals on gameboy,leafgreen,emerald,platinum. Now I'm just getting tired of it. They keep popping outrageous things in. Ok before diamond roselia couldn't evolve. now, magically out of no where she can. I basically don't like games that do that. Strategy!?!?Pokemon!? It's the easiest game like..ever. I breezed right through all of them without needing to train. The puzzles in caves barely take any time.

Hahahaha, you've never played Pokemon if you don't know how competitive it is. It requires the most strategy to play. Beating the game is naturally easy because everybody wants to do it quickly. Training and breeding afterwards is what people actually enjoy doing.
Final Fantasy has been the same since its first game 20 years ago. It has yet to change, and Pokemon has changed greatly, but you don't notice it - that's your problem.

Final fantasy hasen't been the same through the whole series, but YOU don't notice it. Each pokemon game has the same battle system. FF has different ones, some real time, some timed, some by turns. Each game also has it's own spell systems. Pokemon also copied some from FF, item names (potion, elixir, etc) FF used it first.

I know you're lying if you say that Pokemon isn't strategic when it involves the most in-depth mechanics of literally any RPG. That is the proof. I called you out. That's YOUR problem. Final Fantasy has been the same because it doesn't have as strategic a battle system as Pokemon and 10 times less replay value. Final Fantasy gets worse with every new game. Each Pokemon game has new additions to the battle system, but again, you haven't played. Pokemon didn't copy FF, those were the norm.

Wrong my friend, pokemon cannot compete with Final Fantasy, dont get me wrong Pokemon within each game upgrades with a battle system and pokemon which is great fun but its always the same plot people dont even buy the game anymore for its battle system or plot only for its pokemon ...Final Fantasy bring different beautifully and unique stories and the graphics is a plus, overall FF is better

Wrong my friend, Final Fantasy cannot compete with Pokemon. The sales alone explain that, let alone how addictive Pokemon's gameplay quality is. Final Fantasy has gone downhill in art quality and any originality while Pokemon retains its style. Final Fantasy's plot? Are you kidding? Gay anime fag shit is noteworthy in place of a plot? Pokemon is so enjoyable that the makers realize a simple plot is fine. Graphics are no excuse to create a bad game. Overall Pokemon is better.

It really depends, since Square likes to use different formulas that usually end up in failure(see: Final Fantasy II.) Final Fantasy is more story oriented, but Dragon Quest seems to just like being old school with a few large original ideas peppered in.

No one said Red or Blue was out for 20 years, and remakes belong for a popular game that was once on an 8-bit system. The popularity surrounding Pokemon belongs, but that surrounding Final Fantasy 7 does not.
Considering there are people totally on the opposite end of the spectrum from you, claiming that it changed TOO much since the original, I can't take your particular opinion seriously - it is not common knowledge. You've never played a game past Gold/Silver.

Final Fantasy VII sold 10 million worldwide, and sorry to tell you, but it was nothing actually special. Pokemon Red/Blue were. Gold/Silver were. They both each have 1 remake, both deserved. And to the 13 million plus fans of Pokemon, each new Pokemon is a new change to the game. That's where Pokemon has its innovation and diversity, amongst the hundreds of different Pokemon and team combinations. Final Fantasy 7 was an over-hyped JRPG. Pokemon is in a league of its own.

I think people just complain about the platform switch because they don't own the platform. I admit initially being skeptical but after playing the remake of DQ IV on DS I have to say that I have full confidence in them. They can really pull it off. Dragon Quest was NEVER about the graphics, it's about a huge game world and fun game play. I am sure they can pull it off.

The character design you seen in dragon quest 4,5,6 remakes coming to ds will NOT be the same design used in dragon quest 9, trust me. Dragon Quest 9 is using the ps2 dq8 designs.

The game engine shown is used in current DQ games like JOKER. It will be upgraded for dq9 so don't expect it to look like that. Also, don't expect it to be an action rpg, that was just an early concept but rumors say its going to be turned based still.
Lets just hope that they don't go STYLUS crazy and force 100% of the controls on the stylus, that is just too gay.
