Actually, the Naga Morich ISN'T the same pepper. Its in the same FAMILY, but its not the same exact pepper. There is also the Dorset Naga, the Bih Jolokia, etc. The Naga Morich is hotter that the Bhut Jolokia. But hell, as hot as THAT is, does it really matter?

Lets not forget the Trinidad Scorpion, the 7 pot/pod, etc. The Bhut Jolokia is just famous because it holds the record in The Guiness Book of World Records...for now. And they're not illegal. Just REALLY hard to find.

@xMrPopeyex the differences in name are simply due to georgraphy. The Naga Morich hails from Bangledesh. They were illegal for individual sale until two years ago. Now some restaurants actually serve them. I wouldn't call them hard to find as I bought 10 Jolokia plants, 2 Naga's, A trinidad Scoripian and a few others Including chocolate Bhuts. They're starting to pop up all over. The Naga has yet to consistantly test hotter than the bhut

There are tons of different varieties of Gimchi/Kimchi Noodles. In most cases, the hotter versions are made using Cayenne Peppers which rate around 50,000 scoville units. By comparison, the common Habanero is around 150,000 scovilles. The Bhut Jolokia or Ghost Chili has rated as high as 1,150,000 scoville units.

Well, they aren't typically available in the US. I was fortunate in that I found a store that was selling the plants (illegally) and I grew them. You can often buy the seeds online but there's no guarantee they're trustworthy sites.

two jolika were compared and one was up to 50 percent less spicy than the other that was grown where it was supposed to the and two places had similiar climates except one was more humid

so urs could be a lot less than the 1 million count

That's very true. Peppers pass down their heat intesity like humans do with genes so that effects them as well. There's no way of really telling what the total count of Charlie's specific pepper was. I can tell you we will be posting a new one with Bhut's that have been frozen for a year and they were FAR more hot than the originals.

Actually Scotch Bonnets are in a group tied for number 3. The Bhut (naga) Jolokia is number one (more than doubling the Scotch Bonnet on the Scoville Chart) and the Red Savina is number two.

Scotch Bonnets are pretty darned hot. We actually like to dry them along with Chocolate Habaneros (about the same heat range) and Red Savina's. They make a great spice pepper for pasta. The Bhut is on a totally different level. It's an incredible experience.

I've eaten a few of them since we actually grew them and I can say that the heat is very surprising. At first you're disappointed like "This isn't that bad" but the heat increases very slowly but gradual.

As for the business afterwards, it actually didn't effect me much. I don't know about our friend though...I didn't want the details.
