  • What a great Song, Performance, Band, I remember this Song from way back, Just as relevant today as it must have been back then, Cheers Leo!

  • Leo lives in Sydney ( Australia ) now. Has for several years. He was the first Live concert I ever saw. I was maybe 17 y.o. To this day ( I am 56 now ) Leo's song 'Telepath' is one of my all-time favourites. Thanks for posting this live performance.

  • Wonderful performer and songwriter and a seriously underrated artist.

  • i've said this before I think, but, it looks like his hands are trying to escape the whole performance, i guess it isn't easy being attached to leo.

  • WOW Leo Sayer IS a genious, just read your immensely interesting script and so immensely interesting to learn you wrote this fine song....and I am watching you performing this song in Australian morning time, which I think is, 10.47am Monday morning and its 23.47 here UK Sunday night as I write this and I love you too Leo Sayer. Also love the smilie you did and know the American meaning of oxox is lots of love and kisses, and I send all mine to you. Also wishing you a HAPPY NEW YEAR.

  • scat & ragtime & Leo's voice = Awesome

  • Scatman WOW!

  • The Muppets brought me here. Can you dig it? =D

  • Kieth Lemon playing the banjo at the back.

  • The reason he never got really big is, just like David Essex, his first few singles were brilliant, but he soon became a middle of the road crooner that my mother liked and started doing show tunes and musical theatre. Damned shame

  • voice only comparable to the great Freddy Mercury.....why he was not more famous?

  • great song to get a buzz too,but try and finish ur beer or joint and you will laugh ur balls off and spit everything all over the place love it!!

  • Still got this on vinyl LP bought when it came out...gawd I'm old lol!!!!

  • I love this guy. I grew up listening to him. He's a real genius.

  • e já lá vão 37 anos. grandes tempos!!!!!!!!

  • Who could ever forget this outstanding performance?

  • True, wonderful !

    Thanx .-)

  • Leo wore a clown costume to masquerade his shyness and insecurity--he would later not wear this with grown confidence. He was a total genius.

  • this was the voice of a generation. I grew up listening to leo sayer, and grew up wondering why he never became bigger than he was. Sheer genius as a lyricist, and a voice that was virtually incomparable.....only Freddie Mercury had the range and power to compare. Thank you Leo for songs that spoke so well within the realms of music, still listen to them today...and dispair for a lot of the "modern" genre of generic produced pop stars....leo sayer...unique and talented!

  • Love the lyrics & the way he sings them xx

  • I LOVE HIS VOICE <3 miss music like this

  • His best song, IMHO ... great melody, lyrics, and vocal performance ... just brilliant ... Wayne

  • Three Dog Night even copied the scat singing in their cover version, yet had the

    hit version in the U.S.A.

No originality yet they got all the rewards.

  • His music is amazing. Amazing voice. Amazing poet. Although some of his songs played backwards have verses from the satanic bible :P and he wears a clown suit...it makes him 10000000000000000000000 x's better

  • wow thats talent to bad it does not have top 40 views

  • I didn't know, all these years, that Three Dog Night ONLY COVERED this song...

Leo Sayer, in his pierrot get-up, really breaths REAL LIFE into this song!!!

    Totally Amazed!!!

  • I like this song and all, but why is wearing a clown suit?!? I'm kinda scared to watch this cause I hate clowns!!! lol haha

  • Babe! :-)

  • reminds me of a gayer liberache

  • Just listerned to 3 dog nights version might have been the original but who cares, Leo buts heart and soul into it , this guy needs a lot more respect than he gets from the English puplic.

    He is becoming an icon.

  • awesome performance, Leo is the best

  • Well, i am almost mad by the fact that Leo Sayer is so underrated!

  • @niva2gr I agree.Leo was a great songwriter but he gave a whole album's worth of material to Roger Daltrey in the early days and later went to the States and allowed himself to be convinced that he'd be better recording other peoples' songs and ended up as a balladeer (When I Need You etc)

  • This is Klaus Nomi in beta testing.

  • Great!

  • I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!! I wish i'd been there!!!!!

  • Leo's voice sounds like Roger Daltrey's. Absolutely superb.

  • Young hardliners seem to rule the show.

So, you know...hang on...the show must go on, only...

  • Thank goodness that we can capture and relive the great /best moments of these talented individuals. Leo had great courage, a great soul, great vocals and great originality. This and his other beautiful works are a lasting testimony to his efforts. Thank you Leo Sayer.

  • :03 that was me clapping :D

  • ????????????? 'oO

  • Day by day ...I got more conviced - tru all todays fundamental crap in arts- you've got to be genuinly poetic , muze-inspired or suffering in your soul ...

to do that damm-hard job IN A BRIGHT AND RESPECTFULL WAY!

    Bernard

  • Wonderful.. as good today.. no.. no. even better .

  • Thanks for great music Leo.. !!!

  • Another one with an underrated voice, a great rock singer.

  • spitze !!!

  • this guy was a genious.

  • I can't see who's playing banjo...could it be Billy Connoly? ( from the stumblebums )

  • @VulpeLunatica It's Tom Petty. (j/k) I think.

  • this song stuck in my head for days

  • Im so ridculed for liking leo...I'm justified though...eh?

  • @mrwells111 ...yea man...i had to go underground...

  • This is so awesome!!!

  • Wonderful talent - great energy and vocals.. what a great period this was also for him. Thank you Leo for some great moments.

  • Good song, but is he miming or is it badly synched?

  • Honestly favorite youtube video !

I love the way he gets into it when he sings.

  • lovely, lovely song !

  • Amazing performance

  • wish i could go back to the 70s for the music and gas prices

  • @tomrf279

No doubt. I remember filling my 74 Monte for $15.

  • I so like this guys voice... Totally awesome!!

  • The banjo player is Jimi Litherland and the bass player is Bill SMith... my brother! Happy days!!!

  • Its Justin Lee Colins on th Banjo

  • Whos stevie riks ?????????????

  • @redpat11 I don't know if anyone responded. Stevie Riks does parodies of many singers. He is quite good. Does a lot of Beatles stuff.

  • i only know when i need you but leo sayer it´s a genius, i know most from him a great genius

  • Leo at his brilliant best, before the lure

of disco overcame him... and backed

up by the awesome Justin lee collins

on banjo What a talanted guy He is lol

  • I didn't know he could sing other styles...cool

  • The scatting was a surprise, but it works! Bravo, Leo! And thanks for the upload, RawkHead1

  • What a star! Still a great entertainer...can't get enough of him!

  • remember so much just a boy was the best

    all good

    memories do come back

  • remember so much just a boy was the best

  • very very good and funny! dudududum :-D

  • He can do so much with his voice. Incredible.

  • @sirdaveo Yeah, notice how he switched it up live after Three Dog Night's cover came out. His studio version the year before, before Chuck Negron sang the cover in 1974, had a much softer vocal. Leo Sayer apparently agreed that the song needed a harder edge, and -- who knew? -- he could deliver it. Strong sharp voice! I heard he kept telling his record co. he wanted to dance more, but they kept telling him he's a great vocalist and to forget dancing. ;)

  • In 1974 Leo Sayer came to Grand Rapids and me and my Aquinas College class mate helped load up their equipment and got to see the show for free. It was a great experience and this is the song I remember most. He sung it with such passion and the clown outfit gave it a real tears of a clown kind of feel. He was great. Peace.

  • Phenominal , Leo speaks in an almost effeminate voice at the start and then bursts out with this amazing rendition , one of my true hero,s and worth at least 15 of todays so called pop stars , a wee genius ,,, do you think x factor will ever conjure up anyone as good as Leo ? Exactly ,,,,,no ,,,, thats why I refuse to watch it .

  • @JohnMcCash It's not an effeminate or gay voice, it's just a true tenor voice by nature.

  • good vid...thanks

  • what a talent and so many missed him

  • @navanfrank I was upset that he went in that stupid house at least he showed his rebelios talent by climbing over the fucking wall, it was a first and brilliant.

  • @MrBandsawhahaaha you know me well !!!!!!!!!

  • cant beat a bit of good old leo

  • memories come flooding back.Ah the seventies.

  • @loganavich17 Same As me, I was at the Jimi hendrix festival on the I.O.W though I hitched it to Brighton when this came out I was MOONLIGHTING,

  • This is very effective, and disturbing...

  • @hrothgleas IT IS Slightly Disturbing I agree, His Lyrics are so Intuitive.

  • Why can't I stop watching this ??

  • @kcasey4823 Because you is into small men from 70s

  • the stuff he did at the begning of his chart carier was better then any of that candy floss fluff like ymfld

  • great music.

  • Is this footage from a dvd? Because I've been searching all day long now and I just can't find the dvd to buy so I can watch the entire concert. Can anybody help me out? Thanks!

  • What a fantastic performer.

  • Wasn't this the Midnight Special version? I will never forget that!

  • love this at 15 still love this at 51. Music isnt like this anymore, miss those good ole days. Stuck in the 70's yes because those days were so much better.

  • Now this is a good song, better than you make me feel like dancing

  • I chinned this little prick once as he was pissed up and grabbed my bird's arse in a pub. It was in the beer garden and he ended up falling into a stream at the back of it, got soaking wet and minced off in a huff with everyone laughing. It was years ago and I didn't know who he was at the time but it would have made no difference.

  • @LaggerJohns

Sure ya did big man. ;)

  • @Mist3rAmazing He is Truly An Hard Man, For FUCKS SAKE HE CHINNED LEO SAYER, what an amazing claim to fame this is.

I twatted Paul McCartney one night in the Cavern, I have never lived it down and feel ashamed.

Bullshit, I never met Paul, but anyone can write what the like on you tube.

  • @niceonemicky LuLz maybe he will be an hero later in his life; after the liver failure of course.

  • @LaggerJohns Fuck Me LaggerJohns you speak volumes when you say YOU CHINNED THIS LITTLE PRICK, what a fucking hard case you must be.

So how did you later become so informed that you had CHINNED Leo Sayer.

By the way your name speaks of Alcoholism and wet dreams.

  • @niceonemicky, calm down now. I never said I was a hard case, but I did put this dwarfish clown on his arse. Why? I've already explained. He was pissed up and groped my bird in a boozer, behaviour that cannot go unchecked. I was not looking for trouble, but just having a quiet pint.

As to how I found it who it was, several of the other punters in the pub told me after. Didn't matter to me.

By the way, your post speaks of cowardice, pacificism, cissyism and pussyism.

  • @LaggerJohns Well alls i can say to you is you seems like you is confused dude. You has love for birds and animals but you is careless for taking them were someone is for sure wanting to give thems a pat but not on the butt this is very strange, and you was right to give small man some touch up.On my island when cruise ship comes many old dudes from France go to live show with man and donkey, dirty barstards.before i likes Leo but if he is like that then you should hit him again and harder

  • @MrBandsaw,

Let me explain. Where I am from "bird" means your girlfriend or wife and has nothing to do with animals, though I'm sure it's confusing if English is your second language! I do not want to smack this little midget again as the past is the past and nor do i like the sound of the "cabaret" on your island, sounds fucking filthy.

  • @LaggerJohns Now I feels stupid, when you explains that this bird was your wife who leo molested and you is now making since.

English not my 1st language, that is Samoan and Tok Pisan second and then come england and show on my island is only at Seven Day Advent Hall and my Uncle give donation so all is for good and not left filthy because they has lots of tarps and mops. And Donkey very happy no problem.

  • @MrBandsaw,

I'm from England and here we treat animals with respect and where I live now we have bullfighting but this is fine as it entertains people and the bull gets a lot of his natural aggression out. But what you people get up to with donkeys should be illegal and you and your uncle should be locked up with the key thrown away. Fucking savages.

  • @LaggerJohns The donkey is same as buls fight, it is for entertainment and for making money but donkey still go home after so what is problem for you/ My uncle try to sell Amway as well at shows and then he is busted for not deliver to french under some law but we was trying for make more then buy more but he loose all in cokfights and show must go on

  • @MrBandsaw,

I would strongly disagree with you that bullfighting is comparable to what you and your uncle put donkeys through - the bull is a game animal that enjoys the thrill of battle, and is not subjected to sexual indignities with roving Frogs.

As for cockfighting, this a fine past time and I've made a few quid in the past on this.

  • @LaggerJohns IHAs to dis agree with again, as the donkee is the one with the hard on stiffy, but if you you is here to look for a fight with me then show me your cock and my unkle is THE promoter of cok fights in my island and if you is up for it old dude then brings it on and theys will be no coruption and yous can name the ref but if you is coming then tell me so that you can bring me jeans and shoes i will send you sizes ok.Some old dudes is hot so maybe we can deal

  • @MrBandsaw Are you Perpetually on ACID.

  • @MrBandsaw,

Does your uncle need any financial backing for the cock fights?

  • Great songwriter our Leo, he made some great tunes

  • @Promoagent

love it , need a decent version of this ,not a live one . Bless him

  • "singing black"? Are you referring to when he's scatting?

it's actually quite difficult to do-shows what a great vocalist he is, and it has nothing to do with a persons colour.

  • is he trying to sing black?

    WTF is he doing? embarrassing

  • @Thetruthishere11 Du bist erst 11 Jahre? Dann verstehst du das noch nicht. Wenn Du älter bist, wirst Du es mögen.

  • @chacmool1st

use babefish and translate to english. i don't want to translate german.

  • @chacmool1st You are only 11 years old? then you don't understand. When you are older you might do..... (lol - my German ain't so bad methinks :)

  • @Ellamental66 Thank you for the translation - it ist perfect :)

  • I was 10 years old when this song was released. I am now 46 and I still think it is a highly personal awesome song

  • @iloveknitting1

Here, here! Me too! I played this single to death way back in '73...

  • The great Leo Sayer.

  • He's really good isn't he? I just stumbled onto this. Sure is a good find. What a performer.

  • Wait a minute, did Three Dog Night do this song??

  • @vinylmosh Sayer wrote it and Three Dog covered it ... For the most part Three Dog didn't write their own songs.

  • fuck brings back memories hes 62 now fuck me

  • Love this song

  • Brilliant what a preformer.....full stop!

  • y al que no le guste que chinge a su madre ogts..

  • From the great album Silverbird. Too bad that would be his recording peak. He and David Courtney never again had a collections of songs that good, IMO. Together with the songs they wrote that went on Roger Daltrey's 1st solo lp, they had a good thing going for a couple of years.

  • 1:38 best part ;-)

  • at 2:20 some1 cut his balls of...

  • Extra!!!!!!!!!:))

  • Peter Gabriel 1973...?

  • terrific

  • Great ... yes you can hear every word!

  • Billy Joel, Sir Elton and a few other roled into one soul. There's been no one since Leo that's come close. It's amazing you can hear every single word. I challenge any performer that can scream a lyric and make it as intelligible as Leo or hit a crystal clear high note. Simply unwaivering.

  • thumbs up if your here from stevie riks

  • @cspeidel331 - I've found a lot of videos through Stevie Riks, and also discovered a lot of performers and songs that I didn't know, as well as learning a lot about pop history. I did already know this song, however (I remember it well ;-))

  • @cspeidel331

    thumbs up whore

  • It was like watching Roger Miller on acid. DooWackaDoo. And I also thank StevieRiks. Just plain Dooooooo.

  • Better with the Muppets

  • This is incredibly great, thanks to Stevie Riks for showing me this!

  • Comment removed

  • awsome!! BAY BEH!

  • He is doing well with the Scissor Sisters now.

  • Never knew Leo wrote this song. Three Dog Night a pretty good hit with this song.

  • what an amazing voice!

  • Great voice. Leo does it right.

  • how is he not immensley not more popular?

  • Thanks Youtube for those great finds.....like this one I also like

    Mo'Sean "Give you my soul"

  • amazing!

  • 1:38-1:57 the sound one makes when pouring milk onto cereal and realizing there is just enough to wet the cereal, and not enjoy the cereal.

  • Simplesmente maravilhoso! Grande Leo.

  • Simply incredible voice, he´s great.

  • 1:38 - 1:57 is the exact words that come to mind, when I see my country England, dissolving and decaying under the weight of Islam's ideology sweeping through my country. NS

  • The great Gilbert Gottfried!

  • What a performer eh! the grate Leo Sayer . Still does it for me brilliant

  • He's cool.

  • amazing voice !!

  • simply amazing

  • GAWD he can sing.
