I first saw your Pop's group in the Summer of 1967, when my oldest sister slipped me past the doorman at the Peppermint. 16 at that time, I was bassist for a crappy garage band. When the Rhondels started playing, I just went numb. Their power and professionalism simultaneously inspired and discouraged me. Through all the years since then, they were never less than a class act.
Rhondel supposed to be a rhyming song. May I, Swinging tight, Been Hurt, Nothing Succeeds Like Success!!! Some of the best and most cheerful music EVER!! East Coast version of Left Coast Beach Boys...in a class of their own.
WAAAY under-rated...RIP Bill Deal...If there's a rock 'n'roll heaven you know they got a hellova band!
I think it was 1972 I saw your Dad at the Rogue's Gallery. I was a young musician then and give credit to Bill Deal and that wonderful sound for making me a better one. I never forgot that moment. Thanks for these clips.

Great post, Bill Deal and Ammon Tharp are for sure made the greatest beach and fun music to ever come out of Virginia.
I always enjoyed seeing them whenever they played.

What is a "Rhondel? I've heard all these beach tunes for decades. The only place where a charted R&B tune never dies.

Thank you for posting these clips; they bring back great memories of college days (W&L '71) and carousing at Virgignia Beach thereafter.
Your dad was a true gentleman.
