  • i had to search for this..... it didn't show up at all after part 1.

  • How much you want to bet the people saying "jets won't work" owned shares in existing aircraft contracts?

  • Nate Price, Kelly Johnson and other great engineers are what is missing today. Politicians do not need to be telling engineers what will not work. Government and political meddling in industry keeps technology crippled! This is the message of this video!

  • you can say waht you want about the Geramn desings, but the P-80 practically defined what the modern era of jet airplanes would be.

The Germans were weirder but the US designs were by far more refined and as revolutionary (or more) as the Germans. One just has to recall that in those days the USA employed the very best of the world's engineers and scientist in exile plus their own. Just in piston technology, the P42 mustang is way above with any other aircraft of the period.

  • @runlevel0 The P-80 was a goo design...but didnt define the modern era of jets....the latter mig-15 perhaps, the 262 for early jets definately, but the P-80 didn't really incorporate anything groundbreaking...as for the P-51 Mustang..until it got the Rolls Royce engine in it, it wasnt very good at all...and to think at first the USAAF didn't want it since it was developed for the British

  • @wartmcbeighn - Yes, right on schedule. Keep downgrading the Yanks. That's a good little Canadian.

  • press SHIFT repeatedly for 7 seconds and if you get a pop up, press yes, then press SHIFT.

  • the government is made of idoits. First off Why they cancell the f23 which can go 1600 mph and was better, Just shows the govenment is braindead

  • Hope to see the day when a true vtal, not stovl (vertical not short take of) airctaft fly. Herrier can do it but not with much of a load. F-35 can't with a weapons and fuel ! But it can take off from only a few hundred feet. 1/3 what other shot takeoff aircraft do. Thanks for the show.

  • Did the Flying Wing and the Horten 229 - program develop completely independent from each other? Or did they make some successful espionage in German engineering? Pls. inform me about :-) Its very interesting to see that 1944 the program of those only-wing-airplanes in Germany as well as in the US made such progresses. A speculated advantage in 1946 with squadrons of the Horton 229 could have been evened out with very similar technologies of Wing-Construction and Jet engineering by the Allied.

  • @WingmanAlpha

Flying wing designs weren't unknown to aerospace engineers in those times. Convair had lot of flying wing bomber designs (many of them seaplanes) in 1930's, but they were never build.

Northrop was only in USA who was acually building them.

  • they should have hide it and not have scrapped it or at least flew it once anyways

  • 0:24 it was so smooth and gentle like a helicopter that it landed undamaged...

    ...and upside down.

  • @ciscokitty8 soo logical :D

  • typical government thinking, throw money at it then turf it if someone scoffs.

  • Great designer this Zimmerman. The "Flapjack" was a promissing design. Cancelled because of the coming jets.
