IVE READ THAT BOOK. I have been eating organic and whole foods for a few months and i enjoy feeling healthier and cleaner. They also have a "bitchy body bootcamp" DVD which you can watch on youtube for a little bit.
hi, i´ve just found your videos and i find them interesting, thank you. i'm english and i guess we dont know/or aren't so interested in food, but i was just wondering- i hate milk, but my parents beg me to drink it cos osteoporosis is common in my family, and i wanted to know how you get calcium? any suggestions from a dairy hater? thanks
That's a really great question :D I have osteoporosis in my family too and I am always concerned with my calcium intake. I drink soymilk and almond milk, which both have calcium infused in them so that they equal milk. Also, I have yogurt which has the same calcium as milk. If you have three servings of some kind of milk or yogurt per day, you will get all the calcium you need. Also, I don't drink it (calories!), but you can replace one of those milk servings with orange juice w/calcium added ;)
I am Mexican and canned refried beans are bad... they taste awful! Why don't you cook your own beans? It is not that hard and if you have a slow cooker you can put them in there, with water and a piece of onion, set it to low and go to work, when you come home, they are done and yummm.... you will only need to smash them and enjoy!
I have very mixed feelings about 'Skinny Bitch'... On one hand I feel really strongly about eating organically and cruelty-free, and have been a vegetarian since I was 15 but on the other hand, I really disliked the way the book was written. I've been struggling to overcome an eating disorder for months and reading a book which refers to the reader as a 'fat pig' is hard seeing as that's how I think about myself and am really trying to come to terms with that.
I've read the book as well, and when I do eat red meat I organic, grass fed beef. I don't eat pork at all though. Grosses me out...lol. AND I only eat organic, free range chicken and eggs. I also only drink raw milk and eat raw milk cheese. Lots of random info I know;)
Yes, it was awesome! Melted over beans and rice or on the tacos, it was perfect. It melts well... a little stronger hold together than melted real cheese, but delicious nonetheless.
I know you're not 100% vegan but in case you decide to go that route I just wanted to let you know that although soy-sation is made of soy and not dairy, it has a casein in it, a milk protein, which is what causes dairy cheese to melt.
I have heard that it is better to eat just plain tofu and miso instead of all the faux meats, soymilk, etc. Me and my kids have been eating soy products for a long time but now I am cutting back. Faux meats are a great transition food for sure but I don't think it's healthy to eat them regularly. Stick with beans, tofu, nuts and seeds for protein. imho
I actually just used up all the white sugar that I had left over from before I started eating non-processed. If I hadn't had that, I would have used sugar in the raw :)
I've read the Skinny Bitch book a while back. Wait until you get to the meat section-- you'll go vegetarian then, I bet! It certainly made me never touch red meat or pork again! I really only eat chicken which I'm slowly wanting to get rid of doing!
Also, I've always wondered what your price total ends up being. Care to share?
I read the whole book in one sitting on the plane ;) I RARELY eat red meat or pork to begin with, so not eating them has come pretty easy for me - thank heavens :D
This time around it was $180, but I had to buy a lot of staples as well as fresh stuff because I was out of town. This week I don't have to buy anything and next week I'll probably only buy $60 in fresh stuff... so it all evens out :D My grocery budget for the month is $300 and I'm usually under that always :)
I have :D Sever times - in tacos. Yum :) It maybe tastes a little different than cheese when eaten plain, but when it's mixed into a meal I wouldn't notice the difference if my life depended on it. :)
I had to pause your video and ask you something before I forget. Since you rarely drink milk or eat dairy, what do you do for your calcium needs? Thanks in advance Shanti. :)
If you havent tried the chocolate silk.. dont because you will be adicted! it is really good. my very meat eating husband will drink most of it the same day i bring it home. I love you scarf by the way!
I do live in a cave, but we do get cable so it's all good. If you're going healthy, I recommend just getting heavy whipping cream and then whip it. It's a lot healthier than cool whip that isn't even dairy. Your groceries sound so yum. Love the scarf and I definately need to get that book, thanks! Hope you got to vote :D
I would love to have done a homemade cream but there just wasn't time, and it was at Sean's request that I get the cool whip. It's at his place now :)
Thanks :D I bought it in Chinatown when Sat and Sars and I were out in NYC :D
I NEVER come online, as I've expressed several times. I have no time to chat, and so I'm almost never on. If I come on, and you're on, we can chat, but honestly I'm just never on or ever have enough time.
I totally agree with the not eating so much meat thing. I've gotten rid of "red-meats" and sandwhich meats since April maybe. And I can say it has helped maintaining my weight so its been easier loosing it too. I do eat chicken here and there but thats it.
good luck! and Im gonna look into that book :) take care
Yay! :D I eat chicken or fish maybe once a week and that's it. It's the cheese and creams that I really need to focus on cutting out, I think. Here's hoping ;)
Hope you like the book - let me know what you think.
Actually, the claims against soy are largely unfounded, poorly researched, with incorrect conclusions based on the relationship of causation vs correlation. When you start looking for sources talking about soy as a dangerous food, you will find that it is largely a self-referential community (they use each other as references) with very little legitimate, outside data coming in. As with all things, moderation.
Thanks such a concise response before I had the chance! ;)
As with the USDA and FDA's studies, all the soy studies come from within a sect of people who WANT The results to show that soy is bad. I hardly trust studies done by parties whose sole interest is to prove one thing... they're biased. Just like I don't trust the USDA's "organic" stamp - because they are not in the interest of ME, they are in the interest of the AGRICULTURE business :(
I would argue that soy has been eaten for ages in every form available in Asia and the Asians are fine. I personally feel that our bodies aren't made for eating meat anymore - our stomachs and mouths aren't designed for it.
Welcome back from NYC...skinny bitch! lol! Great haul....I love your hauls! Have a great week, don't work too hard take some time for yourself too! :-)
Thanks for the info on the book. Hummmm, since I live to eat Prime Rib, don't think its the program for me =) I can't wait to see your NYC videos girl!! Rachele
HAhahahahAHAhhaa, yeah, well. I would still recommend that you read the book because it's really funny and there's lots of info on fruit, veggies, grains, and alcohol and stuff too :D Plus there's a meal plan in the back and all the food sounds AMAZING!
I've had it before and it was delish - ginger snap crust and chocolate pudding pie filling. I made it from scratch and it looks awesome :D I hope it tastes good tonight :S
