But Columbia had just signed Woody Herman's new band, (referred to as the "First Herd"), and was eager to release their material. They canned James version in favor of this one, and it turned out to be a monster hit for Woody in 1945. Columbia did finally issue James version on their budget Harmony label in the late 1960s.
the dick hames version to this is beautiful, but i think this one has my vote, probbably because it was oneof the first records i heard, from my grandparents gramaphone.
