  • This is the record that made Harry James so angry. James recorded the same tune 12 days earlier than this version, with Buddy Di Vito on vocal. But Columbia had just signed Woody Herman's new band, (referred to as the "First Herd"), and was eager to release their material. They canned James version in favor of this one, and it turned out to be a monster hit for Woody in 1945. Columbia did finally issue James version on their budget Harmony label in the late 1960s.
