I don't really see any evidence that the dog was leading anybody to anything. For all we know it could've just run off because it was scared of the fire. All we see in the video is a dog that takes off running towards it's home when a large vehicle with flashing lights [and probably sirens] approached it. I would guess that it only followed the road because that was easier than trying to struggle through the snow in the woods.
