I know why your Hamster makes this. The cage and the Playground are animal abuse. It's all to small and the Hamster is going to become aggressive...poor Hamster!!!!
How do I stop this? I buy a WHOLE bunch of toys, I let my hamster run about and play for about an hour a day, it runs in its ball, BUT IT STILL CHEWS ITS BARS, I do mot want brain damage :( HELP!
I usually buy my hamster a flavored wood thingy. Its made specially for biting hamsters. (Well I used to buy it for my hamster because I don't have one YET.)
We have done everything to try and stop our hammy 'Rambo' chewing on the bars... he seems much happier if he has lots of wooden chews - we try to attach them to the bars he likes to chew at so he goes for the wood first. Treat sticks are also good for breaking boredom but obviously don't give them too many!
I know what it's like...when I was in 7th grade I had a hamster named Chella who spent most of her time just chewing on the front bars of her cage, and I could hear it at night. She even chewed it so much that there was barely any paint left by the time she died.
Hamsters chewing on bars is not due to neglect most of the time but because of the fact that there teeth are constantly growing so they need to gnaw them down. But its not healthy for them to chew on metal bars wood is good though.
@setox56 ERR IM thinking hamsters do that because they think they can escape, simple as that. My hamster did that for 1 strait hour when i put him in his new cage even though he had a mineral treat and other things meant for him to chew on. and its not neglect because his cage is very big!
@setox56 it is not good for them actually. if they chew the bars alot because .metal is so hard, their teeth will grow up into their brains and give them brain damage, i'm not sure if it can kill them but it can really damage their brains.
My hamster did that some time and it really has driven me crazy. The sound is so annoying. I think the hamster would say that he wants out of the cage and wanna sit in your hand. That is what my hamster wanted when he did that ^^' Hope that helps ;)
my hamsters cage is big enough but she is really a big one, 14 cm. is it normal? and she is chewing the bars all the time and cant run on her wheel because i couldnt find big wheel for her. when she's outside she runs, she never stops. but when i put her in her cage she starts to chew again. what should i do?
please answer if you can help me and thanks for your reply. (and the last thing, sorry for my poor english)
CHEWING DOES NOT KILL HAMSTERS... it doesnt do much good for the owner, but it DOES NOT kill hamsters. They can get sick from chewing the paint, but bars are bars..
they don't die from it. it's normally they get bored or that they need something to chew on. if they don't chew on something then the teeth get too long and can hurt them. that's why they have the wooden chew toys for them.
Not so if its a younge hammy it teeths well all hammys teeth but i asked my vet also why shes been biting the bars and hes says u gotta take it out more or it will continue biting!
if ther eyougne the wil ldo tht because there teething but u cna get them this thing for them to knaw on and if there and adult get them a treat stick
it actually looks like a criminal rattling on the bars of a prison going please let me out

god, all your videos just show that you shouldn't have a hamster. ....Inform yourself about what it means when hamsters chew the bars.
KissingZ 1 year ago
Hamsters chew on bars because they are bored and don't have anyhing todo in their home. Give them wood to chew on.
Also there is plastic aroud the bars which can be swallowd by the hamster and make it very sick.
since your videos are old, I'm sure Scritchit is dead by now.
If you have a new hamster now, please treat it better.
