I like ALL classic country music! Patsy cline, Marty robins, hank Williams, Johnny cash, Dwight yoakam, don Williams, etc etc. and I like that bassist haha!
Classic country is the best! Lol, every classic country artist is GREAT! :D patsy cline, don williams, Dwight yoakam, Johnny cash, hank Williams, Marty Robbins, etc etc. To many to list.
Btw this is a concert in Holland where I'm from :-) Only i wasn't born at that time unfortunately.... But i saw him in 2001 and will go again this May, London Hammersmith Apollo! :-)
@tweetspie Don't feel so bad, for years I hit the stores looking for "sweet White Sands wine" because Lowell George was always singin' about that stuff.
@TheRababa1 Actually Don introduced this song to Eric. Eric had asked him to open a show for him. Danny Flowers had just written this song and Don really wanted to play it for Eric. He said he was very nervous while playing for Eric, because he was afraid of people throwing bottles at him, as the crowd was not used to listen to country music... But at the end they gave him a good ovation :-) Then both Don and Eric tried to release the song as soon as possible, and for Don it hit the charts #1.
Great song, regardless of who sings it. The guitarist in the red jumpsuit, if you will. rocks, his type made the sound back then, I hope it turned out okay for him, but it didn't for most, that sucks.
@Fauxjob Yeah, Danny Flowers! He is very good and i think he made the sound for lots of other songs too! Though i personally wouldn't have worn both a red shirt AND red trousers :-) lol
My husband was technical director for a show Don did in the early 80's and said he was such a nice, easy-to-get-along-with performer. Love his voice. Such a talent.
This is a great version. Love both this one and Claptons live version from the late 70's. i see people comparing claptons to this one. Waste of time apples to oranges. But i will say this the guy wearing the red Lover Boy's outfit, couldnt even tune Eric Clapton's guitar. Was that a solo he was doing?
@dab4546 No Clapton is just a player. Don is a singer- a singing voice. Yes clapton is not god he is just a very skillful player but jimmy hendrix is a force of nature as he was referred to. Clapton's voice is good but not really nice to hear.
@ahealthydoseofdoubt burning it up arent they? lol. good thing we dont rate a good song completely on style lol. i love this song but i have to admit don's supporting cast are a couple of goobers lol
@barrelracer47 God bless you, young person! Yeah, this was great music back then. Some of it was before my time too (I was born in 1976), but I love it too. Like Patsy Cline, I love her a lot and she was way before my time too. I always think I was born too late also. LOL!
i have always loved country music and my country i served with the 101 st airborne in vietnam and have seen men killed by rockets morters and gunfire but the crulest thing i ever saw was done by two doctors working in one of the largest hospitals in tulsa for more info please go to [msbones1950 ]a slow death

The person who calls williams a PUD needs to know that Clapton is a big fan of Williams and had him open a show he did in Nashville where Williams played this song for him. The PUD is on the other end if you ask me.
Nah - Crow and Clapton blow this version away - the guitarist is a pud in this performance - can't hold a candle to Clapton. Crow's delivery is so much more animated in body and vocals. Much more entertaining IMO
Thanks!!! This song/video speaks on so many levels... from the lyrics all the way to how the emphasis is on the actual music and not on the image or other meaningless fluff.
I was Don's first "test" (touring) drummer for a few months in 1976. Don had decided to expand to a full band while maintaining a simple, earthy acoustic feel. The straight ahead, "Tulsa Time" groove was laid down in Nashville by master time keeper/session drummer Kenny Malone. Don's version (the original) became an unlikely tempo keeping precedent for all pro drummers. Don's genuine soft spoken spirit, and keeping-it-simple priority is conveyed through his music, voice, lyrics, and life.
@aavery6801 thats pretty cool , aavery. I would have given my eye teeth to
