  • I like ALL classic country music! Patsy cline, Marty robins, hank Williams, Johnny cash, Dwight yoakam, don Williams, etc etc. and I like that bassist haha!

  • Classic country is the best! Lol, every classic country artist is GREAT! :D patsy cline, don williams, Dwight yoakam, Johnny cash, hank Williams, Marty Robbins, etc etc. To many to list.

  • Don!

even in Africa [yep!, Africa!] his songs were hits!!!

  • I always loved Don Williams ever since my dad played his music when i was 10 and that was 30 yrs ago :)

  • things always seem much better on Tulsa Time!!

  • Thought I was the only old school here

  • 7 People have no taste in music.

  • was this in a church?

  • @mikebranham80 No :-) it's in theatre 'De Lievekamp', Oss (Holland)

  • to think i was 11 when this song came out.it is my favorite song.

  • aim with the 13 year old boy i love old songs

  • What a springed bassist ... :)

  • hey what's up with the red long johns?? i think i remember seeing this on tv when i was little asking my mom the same question! lmao!

  • people love old songs but not like my garndparents they love old songs like this one

  • OKLAHOMA BORN AND PROUD!!!

  • Btw this is a concert in Holland where I'm from :-) Only i wasn't born at that time unfortunately.... But i saw him in 2001 and will go again this May, London Hammersmith Apollo! :-)

  • When I heard this song back on the 80's I thought he was saying "Living on toast and wine." :-P

  • @tweetspie Don't feel so bad, for years I hit the stores looking for "sweet White Sands wine" because Lowell George was always singin' about that stuff.

  • love dis song.

  • LOVE THIS SONG IS THERE A REASON HE IS SITTING DOWN WHEN YOU ARE THE BEST YOU DO IT YOUR WAY LOVE YOU DON WILLIAMS THIS IS COMMING FROM A BLACK WOMAN

  • @eyvonne2006 Yes he sits down because of his back, has had back surgery twice and can't stand for too long. That's why he sits.

  • Living on Tulsa time Danny flowers

  • Much better then Eric Clapton version.

  • @cwcwful nein sehe ich überhaupt nicht so, obwohl ich den Don super finde

  • @TheRababa1 Actually Don introduced this song to Eric. Eric had asked him to open a show for him. Danny Flowers had just written this song and Don really wanted to play it for Eric. He said he was very nervous while playing for Eric, because he was afraid of people throwing bottles at him, as the crowd was not used to listen to country music... But at the end they gave him a good ovation :-) Then both Don and Eric tried to release the song as soon as possible, and for Don it hit the charts #1.

  • @cwcwful ...the original usually is.

  • Although...I am partial to Jason Boland.

  • Great song, regardless of who sings it. The guitarist in the red jumpsuit, if you will. rocks, his type made the sound back then, I hope it turned out okay for him, but it didn't for most, that sucks.

  • @Fauxjob Yeah, Danny Flowers! He is very good and i think he made the sound for lots of other songs too! Though i personally wouldn't have worn both a red shirt AND red trousers :-) lol

  • ☼ #SOLAR ♫ #LOVE ♥ #Liberty ∞

  • My husband was technical director for a show Don did in the early 80's and said he was such a nice, easy-to-get-along-with performer. Love his voice. Such a talent.

  • Don Williams - Simply the Best!!!

My favourite country rock singer ever...

  • @RocknrollMarius He's my mother's favorite too.

  • whose the bass player does anyone know

  • God bless Don William i love ur songs

  • Living on toast and time!

  • Never knew that Clapton covered this. Always thought it was a Clapton original.

  • This is a great version. Love both this one and Claptons live version from the late 70's. i see people comparing claptons to this one. Waste of time apples to oranges. But i will say this the guy wearing the red Lover Boy's outfit, couldnt even tune Eric Clapton's guitar. Was that a solo he was doing?

  • God bless Don, but Clapton is God...

  • @dab4546 No Clapton is just a player. Don is a singer- a singing voice. Yes clapton is not god he is just a very skillful player but jimmy hendrix is a force of nature as he was referred to. Clapton's voice is good but not really nice to hear.

  • 29 years later, still kickin'! Nobody sounds like this anymore

  • i was raised on this hill billy bull end smack- I DO SAY THIS IS WHAT MUSIC SOUNDS LIKE- the like I LOVE. -

  • This band is the definition of style. Check out the guitarists red outfit. Or the bassists bounce. Shit like that don't come around every day.

  • @ahealthydoseofdoubt burning it up arent they? lol. good thing we dont rate a good song completely on style lol. i love this song but i have to admit don's supporting cast are a couple of goobers lol

  • Wlliams, like Cale is much better than the more well known. What's up with the red pajamas?

  • Ah "The Gentle Giant". I love his soft country voice.

  • I never heard about him, I wach this video because of Eric Clapton. Good song. GOD

  • I always thought he sound a little like billy ray cirus

  • @badazz876 oh no..please. Cyrus has more of a hillbilly thing goin' on..Kentucky back woods twang. Don is country to the bone.

  • frontlinemobility loves this man!

  • "The Gentle Giant" was his nickname...

  • I think my grandparents were at this concert. Don Williams is awesome.

  • lol look at the bass player!!!

  • I loooove this song

  • Jack White on the lead guitar! XD

  • don williams hell yeah!

  • i love this guy

  • Don is the MAN!!! theres no music like this anymore..............DON WE LOVE YA!!!

  • I love his hat!!

  • Yup. The Eighties. The red suit on the guitar player is too much!

  • yeehaw

  • Favorite Happy Birthday Don

  • happy 72nd birthday, Mr. Williams!

  • I'm 13 & I love this old county music soo much!

I think I was born in the wrong era. haha

  • @barrelracer47 Proud to know some young folks are listening to good music.

  • @barrelracer47 know whatcha mean! "todays" pop rap music is horriable but old country is amazing!

  • @barrelracer47 God bless you, young person! Yeah, this was great music back then. Some of it was before my time too (I was born in 1976), but I love it too. Like Patsy Cline, I love her a lot and she was way before my time too. I always think I was born too late also. LOL!

  • @barrelracer47 sweetie i have two granddaughters 15 and 17 and they love it too. It sure is good listening.

  • I'm a rock fan,and clapton did a hyped up version of this song, but Don Williams is much better.

  • i have always loved country music and my country i served with the 101 st airborne in vietnam and have seen men killed by rockets morters and gunfire but the crulest thing i ever saw was done by two doctors working in one of the largest hospitals in tulsa for more info please go to [msbones1950 ]a slow death

  • have alot of tapes and one record of him. also have a defintive hits collection on cd. don was and still is one of the greates country music artisits ever to have made a record

  • Don Williams is good, but Danny Flowers makes him sound so much better !!

  • This hit single introdused me to Don Williams in the late '70s and I stayed with him ever since. I had the cassette "Expressions" and wore it out. Last night I found the LP on Amazon Marketplace. Can't wait to get my ears on it.

  • The first time I heard this song, I thought he was saying "living on toast and time". It makes a lot more sense now...

  • The difference between Clapton and Williams.... Style (I prefer Williams) and DRUGS, dats right, clampton was a junkie, again Prefer Williams.

  • apparently 1 out of every 200 people smoke crack. i just dont understand how you can dislike this song.

  • Good is good, and it doesn't get better than this!

  • He died in a Daytona car crash in 1989.

  • Just watched the movie "Leaves of Grass" and thought about this song right away. Great song, dynamite movie.

  • Actually written by Danny Flowers...........the lead guitarista..the behind the scenes driver.........amazing!Check out his version

  • The person who calls williams a PUD needs to know that Clapton is a big fan of Williams and had him open a show he did in Nashville where Williams played this song for him. The PUD is on the other end if you ask me.

  • How great that solo would have sounded on a Tele!

  • Awesome song by one of the best great video in a time country was great

  • The "pud" in this video wrote the song.

  • Great song, but can somebody tell me why in the Hell he's sitting in a high-chair?

  • Nah - Crow and Clapton blow this version away - the guitarist is a pud in this performance - can't hold a candle to Clapton. Crow's delivery is so much more animated in body and vocals. Much more entertaining IMO

  • This is one of those songs that inspire me to keep living my life according to what I know to be right, even if what is right is not easy.

  • @blackmayonnaise888 I agree !

  • @cj74sa

Thanks!!! This song/video speaks on so many levels... from the lyrics all the way to how the emphasis is on the actual music and not on the image or other meaningless fluff.

  • Awesome Love Don Williams

He Is One Of My Fav's Of All Time......

    He Rocks.........

    Love Patricia.....

  • okstaygold allways livin tulsa time

  • Great song...the bass player is really groovin' ,

    especially at 2:40

  • Great track! --But is that strat player wearing a onesie?

  • Don Williams is the best ~ Danny Flowers is awsome!

  • This track is a SWINGER!

  • @yourdickis2limp And you give head to everything else

  • Jason Boland does the best next to Don Williams

  • Comment removed

  • Red jumpsuit and white boots...ROFLMAO.

  • don's guitarist, Danny Flowers, wrote this classic. I bet he had no idea he was

writing a song that would stand the test of time and get covered by E.C. as well.!

  • @dontkr So is that Don Williams in the red Jumpsuit in this video?

  • @dontkr Oops I meant to ask is that Danny Flowers in the red

  • yea that is Danny in the red jumpsuit. a bit radical looknig for country music at the time,

but I dont think Don ever worried about that kind of stuff, he was such a cool artist. Hi always had great songs.

  • @dontkr Yea, he's seems a great guitar player, and obviously song writer as well.

  • Eric did a good job with his version......This is much better though.....And i'm a HUGE Clapton fan

  • My Late dad's favorite

  • Humanities quest to compare apples with oranges will no doubt continue.

  • I was Don's first "test" (touring) drummer for a few months in 1976. Don had decided to expand to a full band while maintaining a simple, earthy acoustic feel. The straight ahead, "Tulsa Time" groove was laid down in Nashville by master time keeper/session drummer Kenny Malone. Don's version (the original) became an unlikely tempo keeping precedent for all pro drummers. Don's genuine soft spoken spirit, and keeping-it-simple priority is conveyed through his music, voice, lyrics, and life.

  • @aavery6801 thats pretty cool , aavery. I would have given my eye teeth to

play with a legend like this! I play guitar with some younger guys ( Im the old guy) in a countryband , and I showed em this song a couple of weeks ago, they all think its great.

  • My favorite singer Don Williams aka The Gentle Giant

  • Don, thanks for writing a classic but let the great like Clapton perform it. These guitarists couldn't hold Clapton's guitar case.

  • Would give anything to see him live.

  • We love Don Wiliams - and we will be attending his concert Thursday - 4 days after his Induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame - We simply cannot wait- He is the best - That's right - no bright lights - no jumping and running around on the stage - no drawing attention to himself - just that smooth ~ velvet voice - and Just singing his wonderful songs from his heart - - I can't believe his busy tour schedule!

    Patricia -

  • @1014Patricia is he doing a tour???????????? when and where????!!!!!! Hope he sings Fly Away and someone puts it up on here! Enjoy the concert!

  • 1:06 Now I know what Elmo was doing before the Sesame Street gig.

  • Elmo...Damn Nbuck thats funny shit!!...Don is right up there with Waylon,Hank,Merle,Willie, and the rest of the old school guys.

  • that's cool they got elmo to be lead guitar

  • No bright lights,no running around on stage, just a great country singer doing his thing on stage. Most all of these new so-called country singers we have now could learn a thing or two about what country music is and should sound like and the right way to preform COUNTRY MUSIC.

  • Love Don Williams :)

  • yeah clapton and crow cant hold a candle to this version. he's got it tight. but thats don williams for you. one of the best in any era of country music. or music for that matter.

  • but im biased lol. i grew up on his music.

  • @python698 this is great thumb thopping, jean slapping, heel stompping bar song

  • @whipyon that it is. would love to see him play just once. grew up listening to his music. doesnt get much better

  • @python698 You are comparing apples to oranges. Why bother?

  • @Sointula2 i bother because i have preference and opinion. and its the same song just different versions. so it is in a sense fuji verses jonathan if we wanna go with the fruit subject. i prefer don williams. others prefer other artists whomever they may be. and thats all well and good. i respect the fact that we all dont like the same thing. what a boring world that would be

  • It's called artistic interpretation. Let them do it how they see fit. If you don't like it, than don't listen to it. That simple.

  • @canucktheclown why do you think so many on here are focusing on don's version? thats what we all did. you are right. its real simple. there's room for all versions. just so happens that since it's a don williams video it goes to figure a majority on here would in fact voice support for his version. funny thing about an opinion board. it's full of opinions.

  • ive got to agree with everyone dw is the best version

  • Comment removed

  • @Fundive1 exactly.. i listened to crows version and turned it off.. i can handle claptons but this is best of all:).. love it

  • @jballard52 I'm with you on both accounts. Heard both (crow and clapton) first, then I heard DW and, damn....
