I have a similar one of these also. It was a bit rusty when I got it, which has now been sand blasted and ready for primer. The original colour was a hammerite blue silver. I can't find this colour in the stores. Do you know anything about the original colours that were used on these?
Hi how are you I am the guy that did the mc donalds sweda. You got a nice one here Yea prob 1960 the early ones this is in good shape I have one same as this one monroe sweda I think they like merged at some point cause there are just monroe registers out here some where just wanted to say hi like to see when its all done
Sweda really pushed the fact that you didn't need to press the motor bar all the time. They called this feature the "Power Penny". Machines that didn't have the power penny didn't have the "5" key in white.
Kmart, Murphy's Mart, McDonalds all used to have Swedas back in the day. And yes imachias you are right, WITHRADIO1230 (real name is Erick) did restore a Sweda that McDonalds used to ran
Great till! I thought I was the only person who loved the 60's/70's mechanical cash registers. Brings back memories. Usually only have Gross or NCR here in the UK. Look forward to the clean up!
hello, I have a Sweda Cash Register just like this. I think my model is actually "M" though. I'd love to sell it to you for a good price. Please get in touch my friend. Andrew
I grew up in Switzerland and worked in the family grocery store. We had 6 of these machines. We had a few from the fifties that had round black and white number keys and a black, thin motor bar. These machines are indestructible. Did you know that you can adjust the speed of the motor so that it runs faster or slower?
Hehe, I used to go to Ames as well and I loved to watch these run. I think the difference in having the subtotal key seperate was for keying in mutliple items that were the same price, you would just hit the motor bar for the last department and price out of the machines last entry.
LOL I guess you do have the crank
