  • damn you sounded great on your solos girl. im 2nd chair, 2nd part on this song in our band and whenever the 1st chair is gone i have to play all the solos and i have no balls when it comes to solos.. i have literally no confidence what so ever, but you played it like a champ! congrats :)

  • i think you guys are forgetting about the baritone solo... i have that part, so i just wanted to say it lol. nice solos you were awesome :P

  • Wow! Nice solo! You've got skill! ^.^

  • theres more people on the stage than in the crowd :P

  • Amazing piece. I played this at the International Music Camp, Session 6, 2009. I absolutely love this piece. Great sax and trombone solo!

  • Nice. My very amateur band played this or very similar selection, (and not as well as yours) but we did "I got plenty of nothin'" in the syncopated style, which I would have thought your band could have tackled quite easily.

  • The trombone soloist did not use the plunger quite enough. It should have more "wa wa" in the sound.

You were pretty sharp. When I played this I used my Meyer and didn't really bend the pitches. If you bend them that much with that kind of tone, it sounds more like a classical player playing cheesy music rather than jazzy. Your rhythm and tone was nice.

The band sounds pretty alright overall, minus the brass cracking those pitches lol.

  • Wow, neat chart, and very nice job with those solos, really great tone, and it's got a nice gutsy feel to it.

I'm gunna suggest this score to our conductor :D

  • Bluesaxgirl, very nice job on your solo !

It is obvious you love to play and you really should think about doing it for a living. Keep that thought and prepare yourself with diligent practice so when the opportunity comes you can be ready.

Nothing worse for a musician than to get an opportunity you are not prepared for.

Do you play in a "big band" ? If not find one and join as soon as possible.

    Great job.

  • Thank you!

I may/may not pursue music for a "living", but I need it to live. I hope that makes sense. It will always be a part of me as it is one of the most important.

When you mean big band--you do mean the big band genre, and not a "big band" in the literal sense? If so, I am not. But I would love to!

Thanks for your lovely comment once again. :)

  • we play this now and i must say YUR solo was GREAT...that IS the best part of the whole piece

  • Why thank you. :)

  • nice job! i really liked the trombone and alto sax.

  • We're playing this at my school. I play alto too, but I have the 2nd part, but know all the solos. The seniors in my section never want the solos. They can't play the 'bluesy' part as good as you

  • Good job, but the arrangement is missing my favorite part.

Did I mention you rocked that solo like nobody's business?

  • Thanks!

  • Hey I was there! I was the only tenor sax. YOUR ROCKED THE HELL OUT OF THAT SOLO!!!!! Seriously! Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks! I appreciate the comment.

    I remember you!

That solo was definitely the greatest time I have ever had playing.

  • the tempo was all over the place. i dont know if it was the conducter or the band just not watching.

i was playing along with it to practice and it pretty much through me off. the section before "stripper" needed to be allegro. it was played too slowly.

  • Nice work, the band and you sound great. This Zachindle person needs a good slap, I have never reads such nonsense in my life. "I didn't like the solo because my friend is a better player?" EH??? I liked it a lot, and I am probably a better player than her friend, just guessing?

  • Thanks!

I didn't understand his comments either.

I really appreciate people like and you and saxdiva backing me up on this.

  • Zachindle is a man? That surprises me, his comments are very catty for a guy. Not that all girls are catty, it just struck me that they were the comments of a jealous girl, a similar age to you. It takes all sorts.....sigh....

  • Nice job! And to think that you're just getting started, and you'll only get better from here!

  • I am playing this with a community concert band. I play trombone and have the solo in "It Ain't Necessarily So". I thought the trombone soloist did a great job and overall the song was very well done. I wish Barnes included more of the original solo in there, like when it suddenly picks up. Oh well, at least the trombone got a solo.

  • Nice job Jazziesax,

And don't worry about criticism. None of us are going to get rich playing music anyway. It's all about doing something that's fun, constructive, interesting, and positive. So forget the "negatives" that people try to throw your way.

People should remember the old saying... "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

    Keep playin' girl!

    Mikayla

  • Thanks!

You're REALLY good yourself. I appreciate it.

  • Nice tone. :)

  • This all sounds good to me. Players are putting a lot of soul into their solos. Congratulations!

  • Not trying to be mean or anything: but if you can't play alto or trombone, you shouldn't have anything so critical to say.

I mean, I appreciate the comments, but the trombonist happened to be an all state player too. And the alto player, a FRESHMAN which was me.

And FYI: You have to have chops to be able to bend notes like that. Not saying that I'm good: I have A LOT to work on. So there.

  • Get over yourself. "This guy I know..." doesn't make you a player--just another no-nothing wannabe critic. Go mature yourself by a few years and accomplish something, then let the rest of us know how it went.

Jazzie, good work. Keep it up.

  • Well, first, you appear not to know how to read. I'd suggest working on that BEFORE you go making up quotes for other people.

Second, how about you post a few of YOUR performances and we'll all give you some "criticism?"

Third, there's a huge difference between having your parents buy you a bunch of saxes, or having FRIENDS who can play, and being a player who can offer useful and *tactful* advice. You're tending toward the former.

  • Nice job on the solos =)

  • That was AMAZING! Ive never heard anyone play that good and you are young. You don`t see too many really professional sounding young players. Half of our seniors cant play half that good! =] Im so proud!

  • he says he was ready to go home, love.

    Haha. I love this vid.

    Honors orchestra.. SUCKEEDDDD. Cellos especially.

  • What city?

  • Good job, you have a nice tone.

  • you're great tabby!
