@HeZu1987 There are also versions that it was a Transmision, or suspension part that hit him, on the chest though. However i have not really done the research. But thanks for the data. Take care.
@replyzy Nope! Ratzenberger died at The Autodromo Dino Ferrari Circuit in Imola,Italy. The same place where Ayrton Senna died just a day after Rolland died. Villenueve died at the Zolder Circuit in Heusden-Zolder,Belgium. You must have misread the "Villenueve corner" as Gilles Villeneuve.:) Rat was 33,Ayrton was34 and Villenuve was 32 year old only.:(
Guys 1:12 was razenberger not Senna. There is photos of Senna when he crashed but those photos will never be realesed. And his head injuries is worse then you think. Not nice.
@ruhroh999 technically he did die instantly, but because he was put on a machine, he wasnt pronounced dead until he was outside the confines of the track. So because he didnt die within the grounds of the track, the race event wasn't cancelled (as it would have been if he was pronounced dead at the track). people used this to blame sennas death the next day (because the race hadnt been cancelled). i'm sure its something like that.
@MartinObviously You can see in the footage that Ratzenberger had his neck broken in the crash. His head swerve almost like a piece of paper. A broken neck like that means death.
@escrete20000 No, because if that was true, then race regulations at the time would have meant that the race the next day would have been cancelled. the impact made him brain dead, he was still "alive" and was put onto life support until he was outside the confines of the track.
@RedhotIta1 He died because of many heavy injures he got from that heavy impact. I heard that he hit the wall with his head and his helm was smashed and he had one of the highest g-forces ever in a crash. Don't know if its true.
@Saki2407 this is sure, was 320km/h and the impact was direcly at wall near to 90 degrees, the speed gone from 320km/h to 50-90km/h i think... I saw on SENNA film
@Saki2407 his head never struck the wall, his left front tire came back and struck him in the head as he was going forward in the cockpit, with that being said, the whiplash effect was so severe that he was "internally decapitated" meaning that the skin and soft tissue in the neck remanined intact however his spinal cord and well every bone in his neck was severed from the skull. he never had a chance to walk away from that one
i watched this F1 weekend at 1994...been a fan since 1992..so it was sad...my uncle and i watchin...he jus said ratzenberger (live viewin) he is dead...and then the sad day....senna...thats so bad....he was lookin at the Crashsite from Ratzenberger...looked scared...i think he couldnt prevent his Karma..maybe he felt somethin
i neva got to see him or mansell race well i did masell but i didnt understand racing and who they were properly. he died about 3/4hours after i was born.
Was it 2nd May or wasnt it? I can see why they put a chicane where Senna crashed. And I thought the chicane was quick. Ratzenberger was probably the worst. That corner is deadly, caught out many drivers over the years., right the way up to 2006 with Yuji Ide and Christjan Albers
One would think that having ones skull transfixed with a suspension arm at nearly 180mph would cause instant death. I remember watching poor Rolands head lolling over after the car stopped. Absolute horror show at Imola.
I couldn't bear to watch any F1 for quite a while after Imola that year.....what was the point? Another F1 bloodbath.
F1 has historically been a bloodsport, to say this person or that is responsible is stupid. In the end it rests on the driver, he chooses to take the wheel!
no Ratzenberger died April 30 1994 and Senna died the day after, Both didnt live long after their crashes, dying the same day, and if ratzenberger died from a Practice or Qualifying Crash and Senna died from a race crash how could senna have died before Ratzenberger?
@WisPT Senna was clinically dead at the scene but was kept alive on a life support machine for 5 days, cos that is Italian law... But what a massive loss...the best driver to ever get behind the wheel of an F1 car.. RIP..
I think they shouldve just moved tambourelli back about 100-200 meters and theyd have been good there, no need for a chicane there, but the chicanes in Villneaue and on the Backstraight were good, they needed to fix that last turn more then they did though.
yeah, the track must have been pretty dire that weekend. Barichello crashed out pretty bad, and Ratzenberger and Senna were both killed. I reckon if they don't sort out Montreal soon, that track could cause some nasty accidents given its condition
Senna actually died one day after Ratzenberger.... Ratz died during qualifying, Senna during the race.
Interestingly enough, after seeing Ratzenberger's death, Senna, Schumacher, and Berger formed the Grand Prix Driver's Association with the goal of improving safety in the sport. The Association's creator would die later that same day.
that's because they have modified the track. In the corner where Senna crashed (Tamburello) and the corner where Ratzenberger crashed (Villeneuve corner) a chicane was placed after this race. Furthermore, two other places at the track, for example the chicane where Barrichello crashed heavily in that same weekend, was modified too... I think thats why there haven't been any huge crashes ever since. Look at crashes from Berger and Patrese in the Tamburello corner, that corner was too dangerous...
The cause of Senna's wreck was low tire pressure. The race was started with a safety (pace) car and the did not get to temp when the race went to full speed. The car bottomed out and the rear stepped out. Senna corrected the skid, bit at the speed he was going ran out of road and room. This is per a National Geographic program that looked in to this.
great dedication vid, its very sad when you see the actually vids, you see the drivers head just flop to one side of the car, but they diserve rememberence

is there blood at 0:39 ?
davidtheone92 8 months ago
@davidtheone92 Most of it are remaining parts of the car, however there might be some on the driver's cockpit. Unsure. Still shocking.
imambro001 8 months ago
@imambro001 Its blood probably because senna's death caused by the medal wheel track rod hitting into his skull thru the helmet.
So he could have been survived without that unlucky thing in that crash.
