He knows what's ahead (the burial chambers), and wants Lara to do all the dirty work and acquire the Amulet of Horus in the process. Just think - if you can get someone to do something that deadly, and try and take credit for it, why not run away pretending to be scared?

Sometimes when I'd see the fire on the walls I'd think it was the guy so I ran towards him and then find out it's not him lol

These were my favorite missions. But this game is so difficult.

I think that Lara's guide in the Tomb of Seth got scared because he knows a secret about the tomb and the third level in the game "Burial Chambers." He probably knows and fears that if Lara gets the Amulet of Horus that it will set the events later on in the game.

Haven't played this one in a while, but I seem to remember that the wall at the far end of that little room was actually a movable block ...

In the Playstation version I actually found out that there are pickups on the floor in there.
