vaultclassic reminds me of all the arguments against hiphop because so much of it isn't live. Usually, those critics just shake their heads, claim musicianship is dead today, and walk away. It is good to see blindness on both sides of the road. I wonder if xenophobia causes this? Too much "I don't like anything I don't already know".
Vault, that's ridiculous. Have you heard the Roots. GOOD music is exactly that, people break boundries. Often, "bastardizing" music helps... There's SHITTY rock, jazz and yes, hip-hop...
One more thing, DON'T get me started on how much I HATE dub step, ugh.
I just don't like it, it's basically the ONLY form of music that TOTALLY annoys me.
Sweet funky groove. Dig it. That girl is somethin sweet. Why can't they play this on the radio? WTF It doesn't get more real than this. Pure street. I dig it da most! You hear me?
@themtb2003 - Thats funny because when Junior Parker did his cover of 'Taxman', there were oldschool Beatles fans who hated funk saying similar things.XD
OK they are not "paying homage" to anyone..MANY DIDNT PAY AT ALL at first till lawsuits happened. And why cant the hip hop artists make songs OTHERS will "pay homage" to in the future?
BECAUSE THEY CANT! THEY CANT PLAY ANYTHING!
And the comment about making songs people wanna here..is stupid..you listen to the music you do because there is pretty much 2 radio companies...PUSHING MUSIC... And music genre ... So people that CLEARLY CANT SING OR PLAY are played and those that can are not.
@themtb2003 sorry but your wrong, ive got very diverse taste in music, and when i got into hiphop it wasnt even being played on the radio apart from a few mainstream tracks, chances are if your not into hiphop youve only heard the mainstream pop version, but that said, if you dont 'get it' then your not gonna like it, i love hip hop but i also like the songs that get sampled by dj's too, just like the dj's themselves, thats why they use it, the good dj's make good use of the samples thats talent
I hate all the comments about Weak Rappers "sampling REAL MUSICIANS for their gain...THEY DO THAT BECAUSE THEY ARE TALENTLESS.. they are not doing it to bring any HONOR to ANY past person so dont say that..MOST have never heard this song...So HIP HOP artists Look back as far as they can to find unused songs... BECAUSE THEY CANNOT PLAY AN INSTRUMENT SO THEY HAVE TO FIND THOSE THAT CAN FROM THE PAST!!!
Right on!! I'm a guitarist, and I'm into Curtis Mayfield, Jimi Hendrix, Magic Sam, etc...but I used to dabble into the rap in the 90's but now its really out of line. At least back then it was more mellow, consciousness, and not to mention it had that old school quality cuz of the Jazz/Blues/Soul/Funk Samples..
@themtb2003 - listen to the greats -- they are paying homage, and very often are spurring sales and reissues. you wont find it on the radio, but no need to blindly take shots, baby!
Hip Hop is a street musical artform based on the DJ. The DJ is the one spinning the break beat records that the MC raps over. The MCs have talent because it is not easy to rap in a rhythmic way that can captivate people's attention. Honestly, rap over live instruments suck cause it doesn't have the essence that vinyl does. You can't compare hip hop to rock or jazz because the circumastances that formed those genres were different than those that formed hip hop
@vaultclassic with all due respect, just what do u think is on those vinyls, fisher price instruments?? certain ppl with live instruments SUCK but a great band with an amazing MC can't be beat I don't care how tight your DJ is. Sorry
@skorcha I don't disagree with that. The Roots definitely are proof of that. But like you said '..certain ppl with live instruments SUCK..' and I agree with that 100%. To me, most of that innovative old school hip hop like the first Big Daddy Kane albums, the Enter the Wu tang album, or 'It takes a Nation to hold us back' would not have the same feel that they do if those beats were all played live. Sampling gives a distinct essence to certain hip hop songs that just can't be replicated live
hip hop artist dont go back to do that...producers like DJ Premier, 9th Wonder, J Dilla (RIP), Hi-Tek, and the like collect record after record, some of which that they're parents owned before them. They have an ear for certain sounds and make something of it. what you hear on the radio as far as hip hop goes is WEAK and to me is not hip hop, its pop. all of those beats are electronic pieces of crap if you asked me. search dj premier and see what you think of his samples. thats more than talent
@OneMic6 Word Life OneMic6, one year later hip hop is still weak and dumb as hell, there are real mcs who has the potential of bringing it back but those are the cats who gettin no play because these radio stations are flooding us with this bullsh!t. It's not only these wack ass so called rappers that's killing hip hop slowly but the middle finger should be pointed at these radio stations. Hip Hop Ain't Dead It's Living Outside The U.S! Peace homie!
@CPJ81783 So true CP...I wouldn't say its living outside the U.S. its just living underground ya dig...Though the radio pisses me off, I don't need to listen to it to find what I'm looking for. I have 4 and a half 200 song playlists on here fulllllll of hip hop and all the cd's, mixtapes, itunes, etc to keep me happy. I just wish it was on the radio. I'd love to have my own spot on a radio station to give real hip hop the credit it deserves
This is cool. I love the album cover.

Naw, they used "Stratus" by Billy Cobham and "Deep Gully" by Outlay Blues Band. On "I want to get High" they used "Taxman" off of this album, though.
