true, I only mentioned that the design existed, they haven't even started to build the actual tank. It seems though that they had already built one or more of the turrets for the Ratte when the project was cancelled, and these have been shipped off to France for service in the Atlantik Wall.

and that's probably what they would indeed run into, especially later in the war when the luftwaffe lost control over the german skies and the allies wiped out many german factories in air raids
that's exactly what I intended to say. At one point, for every german tank on the battlefield the allies could field 10 of theirs. with that kind of ratio it doesn't matter that you lose 4, 5 or even 6 tanks for every kill you score, in the long haul you just overwhelm the enemy

I'd rather qualify the T-34 for that. Not because it's the best tank 1v1, but cause for it's rather good performance it can be build very fast compared to the german models.

if my memory serves me well the germans still lost. you mention 1 case, but the other hundreds of tanks got outnumbered, outflanked and destroyed. yes there were panther and tiger aces such as barkmann and witmann, they still lost in the end.

@crusader636 a common misconception is that the german soldiers were nazis. no they were actually axis forces. you have to remember that the government was the nazi party. a lot of soldiers diddnt support the nazis as they were conscripted or just supported other parties (that were kept at bay by hitler) its like if the bnp ran the uk. our soldiers wouldnt all be nationalists, they would all have different points of view just like the germans did.

Wrongo, Ripley. They had their faults, but over all, they outclassed all allied tanks other than the T-34/85 and the Pershing (which got into the war only in 1945). Their big screw up was that they should have made lots and lots of PzKw Mk Vs (Panthers) rather building Tigers or continuing to build Mk IVs.

@kerooh They had the manpower but lost for multiple reasons:
1/ They fought on too many fronts at once
2/ They attacked in the Autumn, by the time they were near Leningrad and Stalingrad it was so cold they died from that more than Russian bullets.
3/ The Soviets were getting a lot of supplies from the UK, we wanted them in the war because it held the Nazis into an unwinnable war of attrition.

The Waffen SS conscripted, as all German forces did. As a result not everyone cares for the "politics" but fights for their lives and depends on his brother soldier to get through the mess.

It's not about Nazis & Nazism. Rather, it's about the celebration of a grand military tradition & espirit-de-corps. The German Armoured Forces really had it, when it came to military prowess, skill, tenacity & valour. Eg read about the story of the amazing Michael Wittman. Similarly, the German superiority in military science, technology, engineering & design is undisputed .. when the historical facts are considered. No reason why this kind of proud record should not be celebrated, ongoing.

The terrain was not so open for these tactics to be applied, not to mention that german tanks were generally well supported. The Achillies heel for the panzers was the allied air superiority. The best example was the ardennes offensive, as soon as the weather cleared the allies air superiority ground the panzers to a halt.

There were even vague plans for the model After that one, called the Monster, but that never even made it to the drawing board. What i know of it, that tank would have destroyed roads and have been unable to use even the largest bridges in Europe. It would have wielded battleship sized cannons and 4 20mm FLAK guns And at least a dozen Mg's

true, I only mentioned that the design existed, they haven't even started to build the actual tank. It seems though that they had already built one or more of the turrets for the Ratte when the project was cancelled, and these have been shipped off to France for service in the Atlantik Wall.
Every tank has at least some anti-personnel defence in the form of mg's, the Ratte too. Unfortunatly I have no better source for you then Wikipedia, but it is stated there as following:

@DannyBoy777777 According to Guderian manufacturing the T-34 was impossible due to its design using materials Germany had only in short supply. What's worse, they would only be acheiving parity in equipment against the Soviets but would still never be able to make the same numbers, nor find enough crews.

and that's probably what they would indeed run into, especially later in the war when the luftwaffe lost control over the german skies and the allies wiped out many german factories in air raids

that's exactly what I intended to say. At one point, for every german tank on the battlefield the allies could field 10 of theirs. with that kind of ratio it doesn't matter that you lose 4, 5 or even 6 tanks for every kill you score, in the long haul you just overwhelm the enemy

@sebas379 yes...but they were complicated and broke down alot and they couldnt build them fast...the best simple tank of WW2 was the russian T34...built using AMERICAN engineering designs...the american military was too stupid to build it before WW2 when our engineers first proposed its design..the american Sherman was a solid tank but required alot of upgrades thru the war to keep up...even then it took four shermans to knock out a KING TIGER and thats only when they could ambush them close up

i never used the word "best" for the Maus, read better. I never said any tank was the "best". the Panther is a good tank in combat, but for it to be the "best" it should imo e a war winner, and for that you just can't build em fast enough.
I'd rather qualify the T-34 for that. Not because it's the best tank 1v1, but cause for it's rather good performance it can be build very fast compared to the german models.

@crusader636 a common misconception is that the german soldiers were nazis. no they were actually axis forces. you have to remember that the government was the nazi party. a lot of soldiers diddnt support the nazis as they were conscripted or just supported other parties (that were kept at bay by hitler) its like if the bnp ran the uk. our soldiers wouldnt all be nationalists, they would all have different points of view just like the germans did.

Declaring war on the United States after Pearl Harbor... Wrongo, Ripley. They had their faults, but over all, they outclassed all allied tanks other than the T-34/85 and the Pershing (which got into the war only in 1945). Their big screw up was that they should have made lots and lots of PzKw Mk Vs (Panthers) rather building Tigers or continuing to build Mk IVs.

Absolute drivel! First of all, the BEF in France in 1940 comprised 250,000 men- NOT 400,000. Jews had nothing to do with Britains refusal to appease Hitler's Germany, it had everything to do resisting an odious regime that invaded & occupied Poland, Denmark, Holland, Belgium & France.
