  • the song is based on a battle of old none of the lyrics state any form of technology.Back in the late 60's early70's songs were based on spanish conquest.procol harum wrote a song called conquistador.Theres more songs based out there based on spanish conquest

  • Silver people on the shoreline could have been conquistadors.they wore silver plated body armor to prevent corrosion.

  • That's ART! FANTASTIC VIDEO...

  • @apolloinfinity and JeffAlanBass

This song is a representation of a post-apocalyptic world. The "Silver people on the shoreline" are either (depending on which slant you want to take) mutated survivors, or radiation-suited survivors.

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • who are the "silver people on the shoreline?"

  • @apolloinfinity

I've been pondering that too. I think they are either native people seeking freedom and "ease," or perhaps they are invasive people off the shoreline of the wooden ships, seeking to destroy our freedom and lives.

  • Lovelovelove<3<3

  • excellent!:)

  • Possibly Paul Kanter's finest moment (do your research). One of the most reproduced songs from that era., And for good reason. Stephen Stillls gives it a haunting beauty. Long live CSN and Paul Kanter.

  • @doulos58 I really like the Airplanes version too..... So much collaborative writing and exchanging of ideas then.....It was a musical community.

  • @doulos58 I saw Steven Stills in concert and he was a smug obnoxious twit.

  • Great pictures and sound!!

  • Southern Man don't need neil young around.

  • @chuckolove

    Amen Brother!

  • I cannot decide this or the Jeff Airplane version is my best, I guess I need both in my life. Too glad they both exist :)

  • not to be a bitch, but you missed a few lines there. it's all good though thanks for posting this great song.

  • It's hard to think of a more quintessential late 1960s song than this one. In addition, the vocal harmonies and the bass were both amazing.

  • Reminds me of when i was 7 years old, being driven through rural connecticut in November Excited to see the Steam Trains in Essex with my Mom and Auntie.

  • This is one dang fine video. Good job!

  • 3 people are sadly misguided about music. :(

  • The best of Crosby, Stills and Nash

  • Yeah.

    Just "yeah".

  • @MrBEB123

    OOGA BOOGA!!!

  • Fantastic 'sound' waves and I just floated and smiled from start to finish!!!

  • DUDE SAYS-HEY CAN I HAVE SOME OF YOUR PURPLE BEERYS

  • @joediazmack521 yes ive been eating them for six or seven weeks now havent sick once

  • Neil young wan't in the band yet

  • Beautiful song. Wish I was part of this generation and not having to live through the hiphop, rap, scream-o music of the 2000's. Take me back to the 1960's.

  • It's music that makes me feel, the images are nice, though it's the music in my ears that open my heart to the experience. Nice video.

  • don't tear it apart, take if or the beautyit holds....it was an amazing time, fortunately i had the priviledge of being there.......doesn't really matter who play what when, it was the sound and feeling they created... increible.!

  • sherrylynn70,

Beautiful imagery. Thank you for posting this. It's one of my favorites.

  • Old Man Again... Great Tune... Captured the essence of men in war, forces against their sous,l throw them into it, Civil war, WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq, Afganistan, all the same; the mind bending pressure of nationalism, racism, moneyed self intrest ...artificial hate, and we, the poorest die, as others collect the gold of war profiteering... I am an American, a Patriot, fought for my government in VN, and regret that I have not the power to alter this injustice...W

  • Umm...you guys that's stephen stills on the GEEtar. Thanks Sherrylynn.

  • the 'planes version is really good too.

  • and, what is your point? If you listen to the lyrics..you might Get It...so, is your gene line lily white...get a life..

  • Two unfortunate souls never knew the excitment of eating purple berries fresh from the bush. God bless the purple berries, mushrooms too.

  • Crosby, Stills and Nash was always (imho) a better group before the addition of Young. C,S & N (as well as "Southern Man") don't need him around anyhow. ;P Wicked awesome song, btw! Love it!!

  • Conejo-Anybodykilla

  • excellent tuneage !!!

  • one of Your best myFriend.....:)

  • nice one!...:)

  • taking some bong hits and putting this tune on repeat

  • Can I have some of your purple berries?

  • The lyric from 2:44 "All we can do is echo your anguished cries" is missing from your lyric list for some reason.

  • Beautiful... for me, reminds me of breaking free from addiction. Finally feeling free!

  • I can tell by your music

    my friend

    your from the other side.

    GREAT FUCKIN SONG...!!!!

  • This tune takes me on a journey. --- You can't ask for anything more from music.

  • damn,..bring this stuff back. or keep it alive. tranquility and relaxation is a lost element in mainstream music.

  • I loved your video with the child for "Wooden Ships"...Thanks, and Peace. :)

  • Your explanation of the history of CSN .. et al. is excellent, I wish I had read it before commenting before. You have really made this a great overall experience. Brilliant!!!!!

  • you are really good at this Sherrylynn70

  • this song is amazing what an amazing song :) whats it about just chilling or summin?

  • @007jkirk this is about the futility of war.. the situation is one in which two enemy warriors upon the sea find themselves onboard a ship basically dead in the water whose decimatated crew have begun cannibalizing the dead. The enemy combatant, who we can deduce, has gotten aboard after his ship is gone to Davy Jones' locker, is accepted as a friend through his smile; he requests permission to partake of the 'meal' which is the "purple baby" (corpse).

  • @altazboy Soon after, he asks, "who won?".. indicating that none of the 'little people' who comprise the combatants actually no or understand the situation. I am in the middle east for 13 years now and have found that, outside of our 'leaders' most people would rather have a good bbq together than fight. It's 40 years since this song told me what to fear as I was requested for Vietnam; it rings even truer today.

  • @altazboy oh right i see now thanks its a great song

  • @007jkirk you're welcome... I used to listen to and think about this song a lot when I was younger - I was draft eligible for Vietnam and the meaning was all too clear to me. Oddly, I was in a small lottery group but didn't get drafted. This song is appropriate for just about ever man-made conflict that ever occurred. Good day to you.

  • @007jkirk you're welcome...

  • @altazboy Good imagination, but it's "Purple berries", not "baby"

  • @wsceynowa do they really exist? purple berries or is that really blue berries they wanted to say but maybe purple just sounded better

  • @altazboy hello, good comment, but unless Ive missed something they mention purple berries which theyve been eating for a few weeks. I also think the song despite the hypothetically disasterous scenario is of an optomistic nature

  • so soothing.

  • The first ever LP I bought - was 1972 if I recall correctly. What memories!

  • Hey, you left part of the lyrics out. Right after horror grips us, Then theres an A. Please fix, Very cool!

  • Lighting up a joint...tranquil

  • I am glad you are feelin it...thanks for commenting;-)

  • @66402755 Pretty much my favorite song while smokin'. I think it ties with "Beggar's Farm" by Jethro Tull and "I Put A Spell On You" the Credence version.

  • During the Cuban Missle Crisis, I was a very impressional young man. Grew up reading SiFi----My favorite part 'Can you tell me please, who won?' says it all in a beautiful Nutshell. 'Cuz when those birds start flying----rather a moot point ain't it. Love these guys--------{'cept of course when Young came in and started thowing fits---oops, just slipped out, sorry =)) }

  • does anyone see Neil Young on the album cover???? does anyone think this person knows their music??? have you done your research??? thanks for coming by and shining your light? ;-D

  • @sherrylynn70 Neil is not on this. This is only CS&N. Neil will come along later. He was kind of flitting around the edges, since Stills was good friends with Neil, from Buffalo Springfield. That's why the name so you know the artists on your'e getting. Voted one of the 100 best songs ever written

  • @sherrylynn70 Neil is not on this. This is only CS&N. Neil will come along later. He was kind of flitting around the edges, since Stills was good friends with Neil, from Buffalo Springfield. • @sherrylynn70 damn what a BURN

  • @sherrylynn70 umm, young was a part of the group at this point, and the music was better with him around

  • @sherrylynn70 This was probably answer for you already.... Neil was on the back of the album cover....This was just CS&N...not yet CSN&Y

  • @Tionumber1 If you're referring to the person on the back album cover on the CSN album, it is not Neil Young. It was Dallas Taylor.

  • @ChicagoKid5 , My Apologizes...you are absolutely right...It is Dallas Taylor a slight memory lapse on my part

  • @ashhtrayybabby Brilliant. You might want to dig a little more into music history before making an ass of yourself.

  • @ashhtrayybabby young was NOT part of this recording. why so harsh with your words, for goodness sakes?

  • @ashhtrayybabby yeah, this was before young joined their group, YOU fucking idiot.

  • @ashhtrayybabby Neil Young wasn't always part of Crosby, stills, and nash. jackass. Learn your shit

  • @ashhtrayybabby Neil Young wasn't in the band for their first album. Now, what's with the insults? Why are you so angry? Do yourself and others a favor and process your shadow. You will become a much happier person. {{{LOVE}}}

  • Thanks to you, and to CSNY! Special song and video, the video is such excellent! thumbs up!!

  • Wooden Ships .. On The Water.. very free

  • This song was born before I was, but I'm glad I found it. A great one for sure.

  • Cool song..I heard this on the way to get a draft board physical in'69'

  • thanks sherry lynn...well done. :)

  • Thank you Sherry. This is the first time I have been moved enough to write a Thank You. Pretty much my favorite all-time song since the 70's when I first heard it. Others come and go but this always rings true. Makes me think of our middle eastern neighbors dying in the streets for their freedom. All we can do is echo their anguished cries.

  • love it thanks for the stereo version !!

  • @tootsie. "Yeah no shit! The world would be better and more peaceful.(Believe it or not) It sounds like as if they are speaking of Vietnam and yet we are repeating the same mess again in Iraq and Pakistan.

  • ¿Do they sang this song in the festival??

  • Hippies come Back I miss you

  • great song from a fantastic group. brings back many memories from the 60's and 70's all great ones.

  • I was born in the wrong time ! :/

  • I don't know what it means but it is deep

  • @DonnaJuan01 I believe its about Nuclear War and the Outcomes.

  • @skovie23232 it's a story that takes place after a nuclear war. the line "could you tell me please, who won?" is just saying that in war nobody wins. and the silver people on the shoreline are people in hazmat suits looking for survivors. so yeah, you're absolutely right.

  • @LOTDASC Not to mention the "horror grips us as we watch you die" line, which refers to the hideous death by radiation poisoning.

  • @mikal9000 Not to mention that this song is actually a description of the aftermath of a "global thermonuclear war". You would not think that, but when you put the lyrics together it becomes apparent.

  • hi sherrylyn...another awesome vid !
