I had a GS500 and did 500 mile round trip in two days. My arse was aching. I have a ZZR600 and it's like my sofa, but this sofa flies! My ZZR is really comfortable.
@bandguy360 To each his own.. I just came back from a 1700km trip on my ER6 and it's not nearly as comfortable as it should be. The 636 would have you crying like a baby after 1/3 of that mileage. Different tool for a different purpose. I would have wanted the 636 too if I was 15 years younger. Now I want a BMW R1200R or some other big naked touring standard.
I think you would be more comfortable on a CBF600(S) or a Suzuki GSX650F (Bandit 650), both bigger bikes and smoother. Also, if you're over 180-190lbs, the rear shock will need replacement for a better unit, it's rather bad. If you insist on taking the Kawasaki route, go with the Versys. I know I should have.
@dbauernf your comments are very helpfull for me. I also think Versys is the bike to buy for me but it is a bit expensive for my budget. There is a Suzuki SV650S that has a nice price. Do. u think it as good for longer trips as a CBF600(S) or a Suzuki GSX650F (Bandit 650)? PS: when u said these models in previous comments you meant any year model will be about fine , or you meant a specific year?
@MrGhirbo As far as comfort goes, the SV650S (S is the one with fairing and clip-on handlebars) is the LEAST comfortable of all the bikes mentioned by a huge margin IMHO. It's almost a super-sport in ergonomics. The CBF/S & Bandit/GSXFs have the
same ergos through their years, other things have changed but in that respect they're the same. In 2008 the CBF got fuel injection and optional ABS, same with Bandit 650 in early 08 (it was air cooled before too), and there's only one version of GSXF.
@MrGhirbo See if the ER6n is available where you're at, it's a lot cheaper here then the one with fairing, and there's usually leftover 09 models around the dealerships, and the wind protection on the ER6F isn't all that good anyways, I'd get the naked version if I bougth today, and put an aftermarket windscreen on it.. and for the difference between the two you can get ABS, some farkles, or some good riding gear.
All these questions must be irritating, but im looking at getting myself an er-6f 2006 model,as a rider are there any major problems that you encounter that are common?is there any way you can email me if possible, thank you x
I'm 165 cm i know it is smart^^ but what u think i will get me next year ah Kawasaki ZX6R...How u think ? is that allright sorri for bad englisch i'm Chinese
ZX6R is something completely different and a lot more dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. You'll do just fine with 165cm, but could benefit from a lowered seat. You can check out my ride on ZX6R in my channel, I had a few rides on it, it's a great sportbike, but not my cup of tea, I like tourers.
That depends on you, but yeah, one season on a 500-600 twin (50-70hp) should be enough experience to handle the ZX6R if you don't push it too much at first.. give yourself time to learn, it's a very fast bike.
I'm 180cm and it was hard to decide between the ER6F and the Versys, and sometimes I wish I got the Versys. I tried sitting on both of them and decided the er6f wasn't
too small, and 7hp extra was also welcome, so.. :) You'll have to try for yourself, but you'll be more comfortable on a Honda CBF, or a Suzuki Bandit, or the Versys.
i own the 2008 ER-6F and i have that same problem. but i have found (from racing it on the track) that there is NO slip when you don't use the clutch when going up the gears. it's a racers technique. it works great! try it next time you feel the need to go fast! just remember to let off the throttle a bit so the gear can catch. oh! and don't do it to slow! it NEEDS to happen quickly. like i said there is no clutch being used so be fast about it.(remember to clutch down the gears to)had to say it
Yeah, I'm aware of that, but I never need to go THAT fast. I maybe did this 10 times in 24.000kms I got on the bike.. but it's obvioulsly not a race bike.
Depends, I find when shifting like normal it dosn't slip at all, but as soon as I try to shift fast under full load it slip more, but not quite to that extent.
It's better then stock that's for sure.. but still for example worse then the stock on FZ6S. Moved the comfortable cruising speed from 60mph to about 75mph. Make sure you put the rubber seal provided with the screen, makes a lot of difference. Should have taken the Vario Touring tho.
Sure worth the $100 asking price, moves the "comfortable" cruising speed (for me) from 60 to 70-75mph. MRA Touring Vario (laminar lip) probably works best.
I got no regrets. Just had my 18.000km checkup, rides just like on 1st day etc. There ARE some downsides, but all bikes have them. If I was buying a bike in this class again I'd probably get the Bandit 650 now as I'd like a bigger, more comfortable bike.. but ER6 is more nimble, easy to handle etc. Ask away if you got any specific questions
I'm 1.80m, and it LOOKS small in this video, but it's comfy and big enough for me. Of course, I'd like it to be bigger, but it's bigger then for example a hornet, any supersport etc.. and I've seen taller people on those :) Sometimes I wish I got the Bandit.. but sitting on ER6F and Versys at the dealership, and originally wanting the Versys because of it's size.. I decided the ER6 was big enough too.

it doesn't have to be a "race bike". you can do it with any bike. my bike is no where near race spec. and i do it all the time. :)

I'm aware of that too.. I was commenting on the need to go that fast.. not on the ability to shift gears like that. It works on every bike.

Yeah I get that clutch slip into third all the time, really gets on my nerves sometimes lol.

If you shift fast enough, you'll get it shifting to any gear :( AND especially if you aggressively downshift and open it up.. :(

Yeah, it got louder by itself after about 5000km. Sounds really deep too, too bad the audio on the vid isn't better.

Just listen carefully to the engine when I upshift. You can hear the clutch slipping and the engine revving up for a split second.
Mordeth13 had a few vids on the subject (now on livevideo), and eventually put in an aftermarket clutch.
