  • I go back to this video at least once a week. What class!! What talent!! And all beautiful people!! It don't get any better than this!!

  • @cordesmike

    Yep I do the same.

Be great if some tech dude could clean it up a little but it is still fun to watch and enjoy.

  • Great song! I was about 10 when it came out. Better than todays groups which are crap.

  • The music from the 60's and 70's was just so incredibly good, what a time to grow up. Beautiful sounds, great memories.

  • god why dont we have music lie ths now ?

  • i fell in love with david cassidy when he sang this song! he was the man back then haha!

  • nice. memories.

  • why can't i work on a groovy thing?

  • WHY OH WHY CAN'T MUSIC STILL BE LIKE THIS????????

  • She was so hot......................

  • GREAT!!!!!!!

    So CLASSY!!!!!

  • GREAT!!!!!!!

  • "Music moves us along, your arms around me are snug and warm" loveeee how she sings it...!!!!

  • Love 5D!!!, but check out Patty Drew's version.

  • when they were hits in the 60,s and 70,s i was into led zepplin ,grandfunk ,deep purple alice cooper, earlier reo speed wagon and of cource BEATLES and rolling stones cream , but never them but i did like thier songs in private (no friends around)

  • I'll take the 5th I love tham thay ware so classy

  • Comment removed

  • Boy did they have class! Why can't some young people see this and rediscover the beauty of this time and of its music? so tragic!

  • @Jimbo8137

A few have but not enough. When you listen completely to songs like these you should appreciate all the work and effort that a number of musicians that contributed to the effort. There is a heck of a lot going on in this 3 or so minutes of music. And don't forget Neil Sedaka the writer.

This is a superb effort without a doubt on all fronts.

No time machine available yet at Amazon, so we are stuck here for now.

  • Childhood memories, nostalgia, better times...who knows but thier songs make me feel so good:)!

  • Great song and a great group!Wish there were groups like them today.

  • happiness was in our souls if u can remember kids

  • I was so in love with Marilyn McCoo when I was a teen. She was beyond beautiful!

  • Marilyn McCoo was one of most gifted singers of the sixties and seventies. A voice for the ages with so much emotion expressed in her voice. The harmony of this group is what makes it so good. There is nothing to compare it to today (unfortunately). What happenned to good music? kone

  • To paraphrase Sammy Davis Jr.," if you didn't dig Marilyn McCoo, you didn't like chicken on Sunday....

  • Total Class, great vocals, & Flo & Marilyn---heavy, heavy sigh!!!---it just never, ever was better than these 5. Wolfskiy9

  • Man, what makes thease groups brake up such a waste !

  • excellent song -- I'm so mellow right now!!~- Thanks

  • Black singers of today look upto these singers as your role models and sing like them. No sex, bad words or glorifying violence.

  • One of my all time favorite songs by the Fifth. This song still makes me feel the same after all these years.

  • I'm getting my "Jerk On"......

  • Their songs ARE STILL CLASSIC.. peerfect harmonic blends. great cover of a great Patti Drew cut. This group did many of their own originals. A sure crowd pleasing group. They created their own genre..a different DIMENSION of music.

  • @scottybroker You're definitely right about their harmonies and the songs being classic! But they rarely did their own material. A lot of their biggest songs were covers of other songwriter/bands like Laura Nyro, Mamas and Papas etc. Also, Jimmy Webb wrote most of the songs on their 1st two albums. But they did do all of it, their way ...

  • I think this was their best song, I've played it over and over! Even after 42 years I still love it!

  • Love this sound. Reminds me how I felt, all those years ago.....

  • This song really is GROOVY.

It still sounds great even after all these decades.

  • Why did they cut out some of the lyrics??? I LOVE this song!

  • @Foxlocke They didn't cut the song...the person who made this video had to edit just a smidge to sync the music to the video because the original video (which is a LIVE performance) had become out of sync with the audio.

  • THIS IS "REAL" GOOD" MUSIC!

R.I.P. Ron! :( Florence is the ONLY remaining member to this day! Being sarcastic for a moment, after Marilyn and Billy left, and then, later, Ron, this song should have been retitled and sang as "Screwing up a Groovy Thing!?!?" How can this, or any, %th Dimension song, POSSIBLY be resung with magic without the original members? It's so sad!

  • Love at first sight !!!!!

  • Florence is a beautiful lady too. Oh my God.

  • these song stir emotions that songs nowadays cant. darn i wish i could go back for just a day in those times

  • great group, thanks

  • 5 people dont have a groovy thing going on

  • I saw the Original Fifth Dimension on their Reunion Tour in 1991 and they did not miss a beat. They had the classic costumes and choreography of their heyday and not only performed their hits but some new material as well and sounded fantastic.

  • RIP to Ron Townsend and Billy Davis.Sumner high alumni from St.Louis....

  • @jdpatterson100 Ron Townson (not Townsend) died back in August 2001. However, Billy Davis, Jr. is still alive and well.

  • Back in the great 70's I always thought Marilyn McCoo was one of the hottest women on 2 feet! always enjoyed their music.Like pungooer said "where is the time machine" ?

    5*****

  • ani3238: You just saw Billy and [sic] Maryland???

  • This is just musical bliss. As close to perfection as pop music gets.

  • Just saw Billy and Maryland on a re-run of Jammie Fox show. Remember listening to them when I was very young. Love their style. Where did the good songs go?

  • the tunes that the fifth dimension put together , are just great to listen and sing along with. timeless music that really outdoes todays hits. thanks to irislight 2008 for bringing this footage to you tube..............

  • What a fabulous group - The Fifth Dimension. Everything they ever did was absolutely wonderful. Thank you for this post.

  • this white boy from carmel in he aquarious album for his 13th birthday. LOVE IT!

  • I agree barnabas50... I've known a few of those ladies named Idaho..

  • @casey3234 lol!

  • see how classy these ladies are, not like some today, shaking their booty, looking like a ho. the fifth dimension were great.

  • Where are all the real artists like these guys....music now sucks big elephant d-c-s..

  • They are imitable......!

  • This is what love is all about !

The song, the video---what more can you ask for---this is the best of the best !!

  • this is real music i grew up with it its great to hear again

  • awwww...i'm a KID again! This is FEEL GOOD music! YaY!

  • Where did this vid come from? Is it possible to upload a better quality one?

  • 2 people were the clumsy victims of occupational hazards with bandsaws, and so without a working Spanker Hand, these two people are unable to work on a groovy thing, baybee

  • @DancingSpiderman I think they are the same two who hit the button on every Soul/Funk/Jazz/Latin/Reggae or Afro upload on You Tube. What a very sad existence.... if you can call it existing.

  • @elvispreseli i gree. It's cuz they're Black.

Wow, this was groovy music. Can you dig it? If they can dig it, he can dig it, she can dig it, then I can dig it. Hahaha, yeah, I know... different group. Same groovy vibe.

  • What a perfect blend of voices, amazing harmony and outstanding material they worked with over the years. And Marilyn McCoo ... heavy sigh. Not only a brilliant singer and extraordinarily beautiful, but she moves so well.

  • The whole group is amazing but Marilyn McCoo what a talent she sure can belt it out like no other.

  • Great vocals, unlike garbage of today

  • Timeless, & Total Musical Perfection, Summer of '69. OMG, Marilyn, I was sooooo in love with you. Wolfsky9

  • I love Mc Coo . . .

  • Flo looks like a black Claudette Colbert! So lovely! Beautiful group!

  • To DUNKIRCHEN....if your serving in that "zone:"..I can empathize with you..Vietnam was many years ago but the memories, scars still linger...That war will always be with you as Vietnam is with me...stay safe.....and remember, you can count on one hand how many members in the House and Senate have sons or daughters serving in Iraq and Afghanastan..They were and always will be COWARDS..."TO US AND THOSE LIKE US"

  • Such beautiful harmony!!

  • I loved this group..I was in the "Nam" when they really rollin...

  • @lnefouse Thanks for your service! I'm listening to this in Afghanistan! ;)

  • I am glad to have lived through that decade. As a teenager.

  • Now, this song is definitely on the "You want to keep your job @ this smooth jazz radio station, you MUST play this song!" playlist! A true masterpiece by The 5th D! Marilyn & Billy have got to be grandparents by now!

  • @hcjc57 ... they did not have children of their own, but Billy had a son during his 1st marriage. Not sure if his son had kids though. Can you imagine the pipes a child produced by Marilyn and Billy could have possibly had? lol

  • @hcjc57 ... and you're damn right about that 'pre-rotation warning'...if you don't put this song on, bye! lol

  • Marilyn commands the stage.

  • Total Class--like we'll never see again. They looked good, & sang even better. A lesson for today's wanna be's. Wolfsky9

  • @Wolfsky9 How true.

  • Class unmatched never to be equalled go Marylin

  • I'm about to lose control.......... One of my favorite 5th Dimension song !!I'm happy

  • I've always thought that if I had to say what a real angel's voice would be like, that the nearest thing I could find would be Karen Carpenter.... but after hearing Marilyn Mc Coo she comes a very close second.

  • Those days were THE best!

  • Marilyn was the most gorgeous woman on the planet.

  • @chenarch Amen, to that!! THE most awesome--gorgeous Lady, ever. Wolfsky9

  • Things that black hippies were working on in 1967 -

1 avoiding police beat-downs in the haight -ashbury district

2 love that came in all flavors... and all sexes

3 tasty tasty marijuana brownies , with an LSD milkshake

4 beg ,borrowing (or stealing) enough cash for one of those groovy Nehru jackets

  • @nealadams70 Hey, don't talk trash about nehru jackets. I had one when they were in style - for about three weeks.

  • @namvet12 well , you vets are known for your mental disorders...peace , love and all things groovy man...

  • More sunshine pop. Awesome song. Marilyn McCoo was so hot.

    Good stuff

  • To this day I still think Flo & Mar are charming; also, Ron Townson, rest his soul, really filled out their sound, and was under appreciated. They can never truly re-unite anymore. Sorry for the sad note.

  • Psychadelic soul, really?

  • Pattie Drew sang this song also. Who sanged it first? I love both versions. The Dimension by far were the most lively and colorful. Help Me. My wife says 5th Dimensions, I say Pattie Drew

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting.

  • Hal Blaine and The Wrecking Crew made an immense contribution to Popular Music.

  • LISTENING TO THESE 5 FANTASTIC SINGERS .....WHATS THERE TO SAY...EVERY WORD THAT HAS THE MEANING...GREAT!!! HAS BEEN TAKEN BY THEM...RIP..MR.TOWNSEND.I LOVED TALKING TO DRUMMER HAL BLAINE ABOUT RECORDING WITH THE 5th D..MR. • One of my favorite groups of all time.

  • Marilyn McCoo is stunning!

  • Love this song!! I agree with budixxx25, thank God for YouTube. We can go back down Memory Lane to great songs. Neil Sedaka is a great songwriter! Can current wanna be songwriters please take note? Great vocals, harmony and choreography. When singing groups had to have talent. RIP Ron Townson..

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!

  • One of the best songs ever written or sung. Brings back so many memories from my younger days!!

  • Love the 5th. Dimension!

But this version pales in comparison to Patti Drew's.

  • Marilyn McCoo is a bona fide babe!!!

  • i am crazy for this groovy group...i thank God for youtube...i am able to go on memory lane

  • another great one from sedaka---and a great cover

  • Damn, if that isn't a smooth song I don't what is?? The harmonies are dead on & the musical accompaniment is sooooo tight!! I would buy a ticket for a 5th Dimension reunion!!

  • Gawd, i love this song. i love THEM.

  • This music makes me smile. Everything about it projects a wonderful view of life. What has happened to popular music these days to make it fall so far?

  • A great group! Marilyn McCoo is sensational. Always has been, always will! Beautiful people,...be sure to visit and listen to "If I could reach you..." another really good classic by these terrific people. God bless!.......Sister Chrissy

  • The voice of Marilyn McCoo is one of the great things in life.....

  • I saw the Fifth Dimension live, twice when I was a young boy. They had a poise and rich harmonies that don't exist any more. Todays' groups should look back at them and learn what real live talent and class really looks and sounds like.

  • @cdrgrimes I agree with you music was better then. i'm probably the same age as u. tastes change. To somebody that's older they say that 50`s music was better than 60's music.

  • @cdrgrimes What great comments. Thanks cdrgrimes.

  • Didn't Neil Sedaka write this hit?

  • @77loneranger Absolutely!

  • some of the greatest harmonies from an unbelievable era!!!!

  • These songs make you feel great. Not like some of the rubbish that is around today.Where is the time machine......

  • @pungooer Agreed! Please transport me back to 1969<<<<<<

  • @womanlybassplayer I will pick you up on my way through if you like......

  • @pungooer smoke some pcp go in a coma and you can go wherever you wana give yourself two weeks LOL

  • @cimism610 I might be getting a bit long in the tooth to do that.....but it is something to ponder. Finding a crack house now is going to be my main problem. LOL

  • @pungooer i agree

  • @pungooer Let me know when you find that Time Machine!! I'm up for it!! Especially iof it means seeing / hearing The 5 D once again. Wolfsky9

  • @Wolfsky9 I will be passing over your way soon, so you better be ready. You can sit next to me if you like.Bring a really nice bottle of port with you. While we are there how about we visit a few of those other beautiful black singers (motown) ones that were around. I called on Lou Rawls yesterday and he said "I'll see when you get there" and Billy Preston said "My sweet Lord " you back here again. I will pick you up soon, be ready..

  • Crusin through Forest Park St Louis Mo baby. Back in this day the word was groovy. I am doin groovy

  • The 5th D could do no wrong - what a tremendously talented group. Unbelievable. Everything they did was assuredly worthy!!!!!!! I don't know but they certainly deserved to be in the r 'n r Hall of Fame. Thank you for the post. Love it, love it.

  • Frlorence ad marylinn wrk it good!!

  • Such a sweet sweet kind of "innocent" era with these kind of songs!

  • Hard to put my thoughts into words, makes me yonder for the best of my memories growing up in the late 60's and early 70's. I was 11 at the time, no other times come near. What a different world we live in today. Music like this helped to offset the daily scenes of the Vietnam war showed daily on the evening news. All the years of following music it's hard for me to come up with a finer set of vocal talent and onstage presence. Love those glassy eyes too. Party, party, party.

  • A beautiful and talented lady with class. No need to resort to the antics of today's so called female musicians when you have true talent. Thanks for posting. GROOVY!

  • If I could draw the most beautiful woman in the history of planet earth, it would be Marilyn as she appears in this video. She looks like an Egyptian queen. I once had a co-worker who was racist as hell back in the early '80s, but even he once opined that Marilyn was the hottest woman he had ever laid eyes on. I didn't know how to react to that, except to say that Marilyn McCoo was beautiful enough to disarm a wannabe Klansman.

  • @ggordon10 Awesome comment! Deepest respect.

  • Beauty, Class, & exquisite vocals, Ohhhh yes, Ladies & Gents, The 5D, & Late 60's ' soul at it's best. Wolfsky9

  • i'm 17 and love this song

  • Beyonce is hot, but Marilyn McCoo was way beautiful!

  • @jifman438 .... and she STILL IS a FOX ! (and she could sing a little, too !)

  • Beyonce is hot, but marilyn McCoo was the best!

  • @jifman438 PLEASE!!!! Do not compare apples to oranges! Marilyn was/is a TRUE beauty and talent personified! She earned her status and has GOD given beauty and talent that was cultivated and trained, not manufactured like these microwave so-called divas of today. There is no comparisons! Beyonce like all the others today, uses airbrushing and tracks to compensate for what they don't have, cover up and what they can't do on live stages. Marilyn in her time did 2 shows a night with less makeup!

  • @jifman438 When I say TRACKS, I mean that in every since of the word! That goes for hair and music/so-called singing. I've seen Beyonce's so-called concert on dvd and she might as well let the tracks sing the whole song for her. As far as her hair goes, well mama Tina does know how to hook her up and get the best weaves I've seen; because I've never seen her without it nor have I seen her real hair!!!

  • I don't know how anyone can listen to beautiful music like this and then go back to the stuff that they call music today!

  • @RandyBful1 AMEN !!!!

  • "Working on a Groovy Thing" is by far one of the best of the best of the 5th Dimension, an excellent arrangement, orchestration and blending of great voices!!

  • Pretty awesome..gorgeous music and gorgeous talent!

  • sweet

  • i must admit that i liked the group because of marilyn ,but when i actually started listening to the music i actually enjoyed it. now i have learned to listen to the group and daydream about marilyn at the same time!

  • i remember every Sunday night we drove out of town to my Uncle Bill and Aunt Susans watching Lassie and followed by the Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday Nights. They had the first Colour TV. i was about 16 years old at the time and was blown away with the episode in 1968. Sullivan was way ahead of his time with graphics and designs for all TV Shows.

  • This is the one of the few happiest or joyous songs i ever cried to.

  • Great song. The Fifth Dimension is one of the most underated groups of all time.

  • @sdavis171 Underated ... Not Where I'm From !

  • working on a groovything is my favorite fifth dimension song

  • Best of 5TH Dimension !

  • great song!

  • wow, they really do come together as a vocal group. unparalleled at the time! and decades later they still sound great....!!!

  • @AAPromotions

Maybe your sense of talent must favor rough singers.

Marilyn's music is smooth, regardless of whether she's doing it solo or with her husband or with the 5th Dimension (which also featured her husband Billy Davis Jr.)

Not everybody is going to like her music. But to say she's a whatsamacallit makes that opinion as greasy as the Green Slime the Nick cable network uses on its "Kids Choice Awards" show.

  • @AAPromotions ...and you are an IDIOT !!!!

  • I AM SUCH A BIG FAN

  • I mourn for this true music that can never be created again.

  • marilyn was the sexiest woman of the 70's.

  • All I can say is groovy! I spent hours listening to their albums in the late 60's/early 70's.

  • Another great song done by this sexy groovy group. Did you know that most of their television appearances were taped with them singing live?

  • My favorite of many great songs by the 5th Dimention. Loved Marilyn voice also.

  • I just love Marilyn McCoos voice!

  • What a good looking group!

    Pair that with GREAT MATERIAL,GREAT

VOICES, timing & talent, and the results,

one of the best 60's-70's R&P/Pop groups

    still performing to this day.

    Love you Flo!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mrjoshjones1 When I was 5 or 6 y.o., the 5th Dimension was performing on the tele (and playing Age of Aquarius). I remember asking my mom what Aquarius was(?) and she said it was what I was (my birthday). I immediately thought the song was written about me (personally) and I immediately began my crush on Marilyn McCoo till the early 80's. :)

Anytime I need a pick-me-up, I put on ANYTHING by the Fifth Dimension and I instantly feel much, much better!

  • @OpieJohansen Us too!

When we were kids, "HAIR" broke and the 5th D released the

    Aquarius album.

We danced 'til the record layer needle broke.

    BTW, she really is gorgeous.

I went with her cousin (on Dad's side), you could see the comparisons

physically and facially, but, I love Flo La Rue!

Agree on 5th's material, 'cept "One Less Bell".

She sings it 'til you feel the pain!

  • @mrjoshjones1 You are correct sir!

  • blah blah blah come on folks, anyone who can think of anything while hearing this song aint listening right

  • @MackerelCat ..I'm sorry..what were you saying??

  • this song seems like the closest thing to a duet between mccoo and larue..a nd it works beautifully

  • WRITTEN BY NEIL SEDAKA
