  • Hi my name is Shawn my sobriety date is July 5, 2006. I did it with the help of others.

  • @captainfarber I am so inspired by you

  • @captainfarber That is awesome , thanks for the inspiration @kidkel69

  • I got sober through willpower, not AA. I wasn't powerless. I attended AA for a while, but I got tired of people obsessing about their God(s).

If you're religious, maybe AA is for you. For the rest of us, SMARTRecovery(dot)org is much better. I hear that SOS is good too.

Over three years without a drink so far ...

  • AA is a cult

  • @timothyftw I am a member of AAAAA. If you are drunk, they come and tow your car.

  • hi there,Tommy here, sober since 8/6/1988 by God`s grace and AA. ...I focus on the Big Book and helping others,in and out of AA whenever I get the chance,if I can ever be of service, email me please, gratefully yours...Tommy

  • 60 hours so far. I will get through today.

  • @90N1st I am with you with prayer

  • Jan. 12, 2010. I only went to one meeting (found it demoralizing). You have to want it sobriety). And I want to be around to see my nieces grow up so, that's really what motivates me to be sober.

    '

  • First meeting April 1981 but last drink 21 June 1987; sick and tired of being sick and tired

  • 5/15/84 I was tired of all bullshit with drinking...

  • 07/06/05 5 yrs or 1,905 days-One day at a time- through the grace of God and AA. The link below is my 5yr speaker meeting if you want to here what it was like, what happened, and what it's like now. Feel free to share it with anyone it may help, the way AA helped me...Or better put==Pass it on!

    God bless.

    Tami F

oops-No links allowed on the comment. You can google " TAMI F 5 yr " and get to it that way. (no parenthesis though- just spaced like I have it. Hope it works:)

  • good luck sista...8.5 years

  • 11/9/1989 The Atascocita Group, Humble Tx. I owe my life to the oldtimers from that group that didn't take anyones hard luck story. We all have them. Following their suggestions helped me grow up and stay sober. I now live in W.V.

  • Just got back from rehab on the 25th of April. been sober now for 97 days and counting . -.::One Day At a Time::.-.

  • @penlo I was very inspired by your sobriety date and you helped keep me sober today!

  • @kidkel69 @penlo I was very inspired by your sobriety date and you helped keep me sober today!

  • good luck sista...8.5 years

  • Sober since 1/5/1996 by following the directions in the Big Book, having a sponsor, a home group. Sober by the grace of God and the 12 steps! Thanks for passing on the message.

  • @norwayman101 Maybe somebody should implement the message in my brain, because I just can't seem to get it right lately. Signed Woman in the bottle

  • @Kidkel69 You still around? I am praying for our release

  • 1/9/2004

Find out if you're really an alcoholic first.

If you can quit drinking booze on your own or moderate... say drink two and stop... every day for something like 30 days, you're not an alcoholic! Woohoo! Then please don't go to A.A.

But if you are a real alcoholic and want to quit for good and all and are more scared of drinking again than considering a relationship with God, then A.A. might be for you.

If you're an atheist, good luck with that. Dr. Bob feels sorry for you

  • 11-20-09 keep comin back! a.a. is my family

  • 20 months and 1 week today! Attraction Rather than Promotion!

  • June 10, 2002 ;o) Thank you! And keep givin' it away...

  • Way to go! August 25, 1998 relapse 2004

Sobriety August 25th (yes) 2006- current -one day at a time @kidkel69

  • 7/4/09 If you can't drink enough to get full welcome to the club. You dont have to pursue over the cliff. Well maybe you do. The anesthesia made the pain minimal actually made it fun for a while. Didnt notice when it changed. My alcoholic solutions were instant and unarguable. Non alcoholics are surprised by our commitment to keep the juice flowing. I was surprised that such a power might get interrupted. One drink though and I am pretty sure all my sober party will look silly.

  • 156 days today. This is the longest Ive been sober in 23 years.

  • This is a great medium for spreading the message, and since its FREE it fits into "attraction rather than promotion"

    Sober date: 2/3/07

  • Bravo!

  • 94 days today!!!!

  • Congratulations! That made my day!

  • 64 days today by the Grace of God and by going to meetings.AA works if you are willing to go to any lengths to stay sober!

  • Terrific!

Keep it up - it DOES get better

  • and then when you leave AA - it gets even better than that

  • 2 years aug 22

  • Yeah! Love to hear that! Joyous and free!

  • Clean and Sober 9/10/1987 With God's help one day at a time.

  • Awesome! That's so wonderful. Everyone who shares their sobriety date , makes me so happy!

  • It has been a wonderful life and I wouldn't go back for anything.

  • Sober since 1989,,never needed AA. AA is a Cult!

  • Good job on Sobriety!

  • Thanks ,,stopped drinking at age 29,,now 49, and Trust me It wasnt AA or A God. I have found ,and it has been studied that Neither work. Today I am in the last days as a firefighter , My Partner is a Pilot for Delta,,both served in the AF and have two adopted almost adult children. Its really isnot that hard, you just have to desire a life better than what you had.

  • good luck! I've been sober for nearly 5 months thanks to a.a.

  • That is awesome

  • day one.feel like ass. Will start meetings monday.aware of AA through family members and what its about.glad to see a post whith positive things to say about it besides all the usual bashing.whats keeping me going?dont know but am just so tired of constant years of drinking all the time and the shit that comes wit it.I waited till i knew i had had enough.

  • I'm so happy your here. Please stay in touch with me. I will be here for you. PLEASE check both links in my description. also find my web site link on my page. Lots of stuff to keep your mind off drinking. Don't know if you like music, but I'm looking for help with my music magazine.(web) Every day sober is a holiday.Three years ago today I was in a mental institution with DT's Today sober 3 years. Peace

  • Congrats on your 3 years :)

  • Hows the sobriety going?

  • still sober.just adjusting but better off.thanks for asking.

  • How's life treating you?

  • I have been clean and sober from 9/10/87 and still going. Don't understand people being hostel about AA when it has saved so many lives. But I guess because the ideals come from the Bible some people might not like that. All I know is the church would have let me sit and rot in my "Sin" when AA took me in and introduced me to God in a real way. Thanks for your post and for carrying the message.

  • How wonderful on your sobriety! Great letter, great points!

  • You didn't find me, I found you HEHE

I haven't picked up a drink since July 27, 1996. Very grateful for the program of AA, the 12 steps, and the meetings. It saved my life. I still go to a meeting most every day, sometimes more (very easy lately since I'm laid off.) I was drinking most every day, so that's what I have to do.

    Sobriety rocks!

  • Awesome Jeff!

  • awesome totally you are sharing the healing and i admire this about you

    rock on, sister

  • Thank You for your kind words

  • BTW:

    June 25th 1995

Initially AA / NA and later my own tailor made program of rational progression and Theravadan Buddhist Philosophy.

As much as I pan the AA paradigm from time to time, I still believe in its central tenet of "abstinence + attitude change" (as quickcap puts it)...

  • Awesome for you!

  • Kid - just starting over after a long road trip amazing when you think you have hit bottom before but go back out and really find your bottom June 1, 2009 ~ One Day at a Time ~ Forever is too much for me to comprehend

  • I'm so glad your sober today!

  • I'm so glad your sober today!

  • Hi Kid- saw your link under the Bill W video- I began in '79- Id go 3-4 years and get drunk and full of remorse- my last sobreity date is August 3, 1993- I defied them and did psychotherapy- have not thought of taking a drink in nearly 16 years- "dual diagnosis" is recognized now- but I have not attended a local meeting because my therapy was trashed-I hope to move and tell my story as I have done before- Its a doosy-Live And Let Live.

  • Thank You for sharing. I am also duel diagnosis! More more to us! Blessed another day sober!

  • It's very easy for the critics to say that an alcoholic is a weak individual and that A.A. is just a cult. But for us who have the disease and who work the A.A. program, it is a solution. Bottom line? There will always be those who must die so others may live........a very misunderstood statement for those who are not alcoholic or who are in denial of their disease. Liver failure is the most agonizing, painful, slow death ever known to man.

  • This is one of the most truthful comments I've ever heard.

  • "...a very misunderstood statement for those who are not alcoholic or who are in denial of their disease. Liver failure is the most agonizing, painful, slow death ever known to man."

    Disease?

Are you calling alcoholism a disease or liver failure a disease?

I do hope it's the latter and not the former...

However, how does liver failure compel anyone to drink alcohol excessively and chronically?

  • Hammersley. Once again, I urge you to listen to the Joe and Charlie tapes, especially the parts dealing with the Doctors' Opinion.

You will get the answer to your question.

  • I'll listen to the tapes if they have some empirically supported data - and not just some elaborate, unsupported hypothesis about some postulated metabolic liver disorder...

If it has any substance, then why isn't it posted in a biomedical research journal or at least being pursued by a research team as we speak?

You see, I've chased up too many dead ends in my time. Half convincing theories backed by nothing but a prayer and a wish.

If I want that, I might as well go back to meetings...

  • I do as my sponsor suggests. He suggested I think of the consequences of that first drink and that's exactly what I've been able to do for nine years now. I'm very grateful for that one message I recevied early on, it has allowed me to stay sober and receive many others. Thank you for your time.

  • EVERY DAY SOBER IS A HOLIDAY!

  • An old timer once told me "Play the tape until the end."

  • FYI - I was a big time scoffer of AA for many years in and out of the program. Doing the same thing over and expecting different results. What changed me was the fact that a lot of people in AA were getting better and I wasn't! I finally made the decision I wanted what they had and was ready to go to any length to get it.

  • Yes, it means death for me, If I don't go to any length

  • Alcoholism is a twofold disease. The physical craving and the obsession of the mind. If it were just a physical craving, anyone could stop. But the mental obsession tells us to do it over expecting different results this time around and it never changes for the alcoholic. The mental obsession tells us to take the first drink and then the physical craving kicks in all over again. That is why it is so crucial not to take the first drink. AA is the only program that addresses this problem.

  • I saw my father die of alcoholism and my brother die from the disease. I am here because of AA. Alcoholism is not a joke. It is a progressive disease unto death but there is a solution if you want it. AA is a program so poorly misunderstood by a lot of people. For us with the progressive disease of alcoholism, it is a solution. AA birthdate 12-01-99

  • Thank You for writing. My cravings have been so bad today and your story reminded me of all the lives taken. Congrads on your 99 Birthday!

  • I am sorry to tell you that Alcoholics anonymous has a higher relapse rate quitting on your own.

Get over it already. After a few weeks, a month at the most, the physical cravings go away. AA is just a place to hide from family and responsibilities.

  • Hello my name is Richard and I am a alcoholc.

  • Thank You so much! I'm sure it will help.

  • I just never drank that much but I will pray. I did smoke and it took forever to quit. I hear drinking is much harder to quit so I'm very lucky. I prayed as this video finished and I will pray again as you've requested. --:) Rod

  • Thank You Rod for your prayers. Now, me I quit the drink, but the cigerettes got me down.

  • i'm still fighting drinking. from what i understand..a binge drinker doesnt drink everyday-but drinks to get drunk (thats me)

    Wendy

  • This is cool what you are doing kidkel, I really am happy to see people helping each other. I am not much of a drinker so I guess I don't really qualify, but I am willing to lend my support if needed, when my father lived, he did have a drinking problem that he never admitted. I am sorry to say that he got bladder cancer and that was the only thing that made him quit drinking, the last three years of his life. but anyway I understand the problems of alcoholism and wanna help.

  • Sobriety Date12-3-00 Stayed sober today by giving a talk at a treatment center.

    DD

  • That is awesome. What step or topic? Right now I am working on Detachment. I am co-dependent on my daughter.

  • No particular topic other than driving home the point that it takes more than just going to meetings. I used the cake mix prop. Just giving them hope that recovery is possible if you are willing to work for it.

  • wish I could have heard it. it would be cool if you could video tape your talks.

  • I believe that would not be within the traditions. So you are co-dependant, but not alcoholic?

  • DEAREST Kidkel, ALCHOHOLICS ANONYMOUS HAS SAVED MY LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME SINCE JUNE 14th 1979. THANK-YOU for such a very very LOVING VIDEO!!! LOVE & HUGS, grandmafottz.

  • oct 31 1987 - if alcohol is a problem aa may help.

  • My sobriety date is 4-5-2007. I struggled with alcohol for several years. I was in and out of AA many times as well as re-hab. I finally got to the point where I couldn't live like that anymore and just quit. My faith in God is what has carried me this far.

  • God Bless you! With God all things are possible!

  • I'm not gonna lie...I do like to have a drink on occassion, but that's not very often, but I have been drunk before however, I don't like what it does to my body, not a big fan of alcohol. The concern for the health of my body is what keeps me sober, I'd rather feel naturally good & healthy for as long as possible. I'm much stronger than alcohol, as it has never & will never control me and my life.

  • Your one of the lucky, and smart ones! You make good choices.

  • i dont like booze.. never did... guess im lucky

  • It's obvious in your demeaner that your very self-controlled. You are lucky. I loved booze more then my own self.

  • i love money more..then my own self

  • What did the Beatles say? Money Can't Buy you love!

  • my father stayed drunk. killed himself w/ alcohol younger than i am now. i rarely drink but have a lot of respect for people like you who do something about problem drinking. ya!

  • Thank You. I am sorry for your father, and it must hurt everyday.

  • yes togheter we can stay sober!!!!!

  • For sure!Hope in numbers.

  • Great video!

    Great message!

  • Thank You!

  • I've never had a reason to want to drink...I guess because my father was an alcoholic and I grew up in that surrounding and didn't like it!

Good Luck to all that are in recovery and my prayers go out to you all!

    ~BJ~

  • Thank You for the nice thoughts.

  • Hey There! GREAT IDEA!!! My sobriety date is July 16, 2003. That means in a couple of weeks it will be 5 years. I never thought I could manage 1 year, let alone 5. I tried every other option I could think of before I had to admit that I just couldn't do it alone. AA was the last place I wanted to go. But once I went, I realized that it was nothing like I imagined it would be. Instead of depressed people, I found really fun people. I've never laughed so hard as I have at an AA meeting.

  • Thats so great! Everyday sober is a holiday!Congradulations on your sobriety! The people in AA are so fun.

  • good positive message and very helpful to those in need (I just lost a friend to a drug overdose)

  • I am so sorry to hear that. I will say a prayer.

  • Cool video!!

  • I Wish I Can Help But I Dont Have A Drinking Problem...So Far My Drinking Beer Works Perfectly...lol I Have Not Spilled A Drop! But I Wish You All The Best On Your Recovery!
