Jan. 12, 2010. I only went to one meeting (found it demoralizing). You have to want it sobriety). And I want to be around to see my nieces grow up so, that's really what motivates me to be sober.
07/06/05 5 yrs or 1,905 days-One day at a time- through the grace of God and AA. The link below is my 5yr speaker meeting if you want to here what it was like, what happened, and what it's like now. Feel free to share it with anyone it may help, the way AA helped me...Or better put==Pass it on!

11/9/1989 The Atascocita Group, Humble Tx. I owe my life to the oldtimers from that group that didn't take anyones hard luck story. We all have them. Following their suggestions helped me grow up and stay sober. I now live in W.V.
Sober since 1/5/1996 by following the directions in the Big Book, having a sponsor, a home group. Sober by the grace of God and the 12 steps! Thanks for passing on the message.
If you can quit drinking booze on your own or moderate... say drink two and stop... every day for something like 30 days, you're not an alcoholic! Woohoo! Then please don't go to A.A.
But if you are a real alcoholic and want to quit for good and all and are more scared of drinking again than considering a relationship with God, then A.A. might be for you.
If you're an atheist, good luck with that. Dr. Bob feels sorry for you
7/4/09 If you can't drink enough to get full welcome to the club. You dont have to pursue over the cliff. Well maybe you do. The anesthesia made the pain minimal actually made it fun for a while. Didnt notice when it changed. My alcoholic solutions were instant and unarguable. Non alcoholics are surprised by our commitment to keep the juice flowing. I was surprised that such a power might get interrupted. One drink though and I am pretty sure all my sober party will look silly.
Thanks ,,stopped drinking at age 29,,now 49, and Trust me It wasnt AA or A God. I have found ,and it has been studied that Neither work. Today I am in the last days as a firefighter , My Partner is a Pilot for Delta,,both served in the AF and have two adopted almost adult children. Its really isnot that hard, you just have to desire a life better than what you had.

I have been clean and sober from 9/10/87 and still going. Don't understand people being hostel about AA when it has saved so many lives. But I guess because the ideals come from the Bible some people might not like that. All I know is the church would have let me sit and rot in my "Sin" when AA took me in and introduced me to God in a real way. Thanks for your post and for carrying the message.
I haven't picked up a drink since July 27, 1996. Very grateful for the program of AA, the 12 steps, and the meetings. It saved my life. I still go to a meeting most every day, sometimes more (very easy lately since I'm laid off.) I was drinking most every day, so that's what I have to do.
Kid - just starting over after a long road trip amazing when you think you have hit bottom before but go back out and really find your bottom June 1, 2009 ~ One Day at a Time ~ Forever is too much for me to comprehend
Hi Kid- saw your link under the Bill W video- I began in '79- Id go 3-4 years and get drunk and full of remorse- my last sobreity date is August 3, 1993- I defied them and did psychotherapy- have not thought of taking a drink in nearly 16 years- "dual diagnosis" is recognized now- but I have not attended a local meeting because my therapy was trashed-I hope to move and tell my story as I have done before- Its a doosy-Live And Let Live.
It's very easy for the critics to say that an alcoholic is a weak individual and that A.A. is just a cult. But for us who have the disease and who work the A.A. program, it is a solution. Bottom line? There will always be those who must die so others may live........a very misunderstood statement for those who are not alcoholic or who are in denial of their disease. Liver failure is the most agonizing, painful, slow death ever known to man.
"...a very misunderstood statement for those who are not alcoholic or who are in denial of their disease. Liver failure is the most agonizing, painful, slow death ever known to man."
Disease?
Are you calling alcoholism a disease or liver failure a disease?
I do hope it's the latter and not the former...
However, how does liver failure compel anyone to drink alcohol excessively and chronically?
I'll listen to the tapes if they have some empirically supported data - and not just some elaborate, unsupported hypothesis about some postulated metabolic liver disorder...
If it has any substance, then why isn't it posted in a biomedical research journal or at least being pursued by a research team as we speak?
You see, I've chased up too many dead ends in my time. Half convincing theories backed by nothing but a prayer and a wish.
If I want that, I might as well go back to meetings...
I do as my sponsor suggests. He suggested I think of the consequences of that first drink and that's exactly what I've been able to do for nine years now. I'm very grateful for that one message I recevied early on, it has allowed me to stay sober and receive many others. Thank you for your time.
FYI - I was a big time scoffer of AA for many years in and out of the program. Doing the same thing over and expecting different results. What changed me was the fact that a lot of people in AA were getting better and I wasn't! I finally made the decision I wanted what they had and was ready to go to any length to get it.
Alcoholism is a twofold disease. The physical craving and the obsession of the mind. If it were just a physical craving, anyone could stop. But the mental obsession tells us to do it over expecting different results this time around and it never changes for the alcoholic. The mental obsession tells us to take the first drink and then the physical craving kicks in all over again. That is why it is so crucial not to take the first drink. AA is the only program that addresses this problem.
I saw my father die of alcoholism and my brother die from the disease. I am here because of AA. Alcoholism is not a joke. It is a progressive disease unto death but there is a solution if you want it. AA is a program so poorly misunderstood by a lot of people. For us with the progressive disease of alcoholism, it is a solution. AA birthdate 12-01-99
I am sorry to tell you that Alcoholics anonymous has a higher relapse rate quitting on your own.
Get over it already. After a few weeks, a month at the most, the physical cravings go away. AA is just a place to hide from family and responsibilities.
I am a SOBER AAer--I just finished reading the first 164 pgs again...Sobriety date: Jan. 1st, 2000...What kept me sober today, my AA on-line group reading :D CIAO :)
I just never drank that much but I will pray. I did smoke and it took forever to quit. I hear drinking is much harder to quit so I'm very lucky. I prayed as this video finished and I will pray again as you've requested. --:) Rod
This is cool what you are doing kidkel, I really am happy to see people helping each other. I am not much of a drinker so I guess I don't really qualify, but I am willing to lend my support if needed, when my father lived, he did have a drinking problem that he never admitted. I am sorry to say that he got bladder cancer and that was the only thing that made him quit drinking, the last three years of his life. but anyway I understand the problems of alcoholism and wanna help.
No particular topic other than driving home the point that it takes more than just going to meetings. I used the cake mix prop. Just giving them hope that recovery is possible if you are willing to work for it.
DEAREST Kidkel, ALCHOHOLICS ANONYMOUS HAS SAVED MY LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME SINCE JUNE 14th 1979. THANK-YOU for such a very very LOVING VIDEO!!! LOVE & HUGS, grandmafottz.
My sobriety date is 4-5-2007. I struggled with alcohol for several years. I was in and out of AA many times as well as re-hab. I finally got to the point where I couldn't live like that anymore and just quit. My faith in God is what has carried me this far.
I'm not gonna lie...I do like to have a drink on occassion, but that's not very often, but I have been drunk before however, I don't like what it does to my body, not a big fan of alcohol. The concern for the health of my body is what keeps me sober, I'd rather feel naturally good & healthy for as long as possible. I'm much stronger than alcohol, as it has never & will never control me and my life.
my father stayed drunk. killed himself w/ alcohol younger than i am now. i rarely drink but have a lot of respect for people like you who do something about problem drinking. ya!
Hey There! GREAT IDEA!!! My sobriety date is July 16, 2003. That means in a couple of weeks it will be 5 years. I never thought I could manage 1 year, let alone 5. I tried every other option I could think of before I had to admit that I just couldn't do it alone. AA was the last place I wanted to go. But once I went, I realized that it was nothing like I imagined it would be. Instead of depressed people, I found really fun people. I've never laughed so hard as I have at an AA meeting.
I Wish I Can Help But I Dont Have A Drinking Problem...So Far My Drinking Beer Works Perfectly...lol I Have Not Spilled A Drop! But I Wish You All The Best On Your Recovery!
Original Sobriety date is August 25th 1998. In 2003 I relapsed to find the yets:Lost custody of my daughter, my teaching job, DWI, Jail, and Hospital.
My current date is August 25th 2005
What kept me sober today is looking at my Grand daughter and relizing she never had to see me drunk! One Day at a Time!

I got sober through willpower, not AA. I wasn't powerless. I attended AA for a while, but I got tired of people obsessing about their God(s).
If you're religious, maybe AA is for you. For the rest of us, SMARTRecovery(dot)org is much better. I hear that SOS is good too.

That is awesome. What step or topic? Right now I am working on Detachment. I am co-dependent on my daughter.
Kidkel69 3 years ago
No particular topic other than driving home the point that it takes more than just going to meetings. I used the cake mix prop. Just giving them hope that recovery is possible if you are willing to work for it.
DOUGD98953 3 years ago
wish I could have heard it. it would be cool if you could video tape your talks.
Kidkel69 3 years ago
I believe that would not be within the traditions. So you are co-dependant, but not alcoholic?

My sobriety date is 4-5-2007. I struggled with alcohol for several years. I was in and out of AA many times as well as re-hab. I finally got to the point where I couldn't live like that anymore and just quit. My faith in God is what has carried me this far.

God Bless you! With God all things are possible!

I've never had a reason to want to drink...I guess because my father was an alcoholic and I grew up in that surrounding and didn't like it!
Good Luck to all that are in recovery and my prayers go out to you all!

Thats so great! Everyday sober is a holiday!Congradulations on your sobriety! The people in AA are so fun.
