don't be so sure, obama has the mainstream media in his pocket, abc, nbc, cbs, NYT, msnbc, ap, all attacking mccain and writing only glowing stories about obama, he should be up 30 points in the polls, but he is not because the american people are wising up, the fact that his relationship with bill ayers don't bother you is disturbing to say the least
I think if you were to actually detail to yourself what this "relationship" was about you would wonder who the hell made you believe that it was worth a mention.
I have understood the importance of Net Neutrality, but I am still looking for a definition to grant rights to consumers to have an undistorted access to the Net.
What is your definition that lawmakers can put in the law?
I am looking for a definition of Net Neutrality, but I am unable to find your definition of Net Neutrality.
Net discrimination can only occur without competition. For the last several years I've followed this topic, no one has demonstrated a lack of broadband competition in major markets. Even rural markets usually have a couple of options: DSL or Cable, and Satellite.
But please, someone enlighten me. I have three choices for hight speed internet right now in Reno, NV: Cable, DSL and EVDO.
If one limited me, why couldn't I switch? If all did, I could protest or get a T-1 line, and sublet it out!
Hi sir/madam. I have one option in my part of Northern California: cable. DSL is too far away, and satellite/evdo providers don't cover my area. WiMAX could rule, if it ever is deployed. :)
You're correct about discrimination being married to monopolies. Outside of net non-neutrality, damage is also done with bandwidth caps. I just wish that the next president creates a policy that makes us competitive with Japan or South Korea. It would be cool to have 100 Mbps for around 30 bones/month.
Realistically, most areas are restricted by who actually owns the physical wiring laying around. Two cable companies operating in the same area is very rare. Finding multiple telecoms for DSL may not be difficult, but they don't do data services directly. What if they're all handing off your connection to the same monopolistic ISP?
I agree that independent ISPs can resolve the problem, but they don't start on even terms with the big boys and take much bigger risks.
Thank you, Vint for that simple, yet elegent take on the importance of Net Neutrality. It's disheartening to see so few views on this video, but however as the word gets out, more people will understand the importance of this issue in the election this year.
An excellent, easy to understand explanation of net neutrality and why it is important to the future of the internet and the future of our world. The internet has changed the way we do things, do we really want to give corporations a monopoly and unfair control over our access to information? Look how well that worked in the housing and banking industry...

NET NEUTRALITY is not the problem! It is the lack of competition! We don't need governments coming in and restricting companies, we need more COMPETITION. Why is there only one cable provider for your zip code? Why only one telephone? Why do mobile companies get monopolies on radio spectrum? THAT IS OUR PROBLEM. Open up the market to competition and this issue vanishes.
Wow, its that simple? You are a genius! Nobody thought of that... Give me a break. You obviously have *no* idea how many lobbyist telecoms have. You also do not understand that corporations *are* government regulations. You can only create a publicly traded corporation through the government. That's why they are called "public corporations". So yeah, get the government out of this by first abolishing public corporations! Just have private corporations and private business. No stock market too.
Net Neutrality creates an environment that permits competition. Without some rules, you can't have a fair game. People don't enter a market when they know there are no rules OR the rules aren't being enforced. Without Net Neutrality there is LESS competition. Want proof? Look at the anti-competitive megacorps that dislike NN!
There are already MANY examples of breaches of net neutrality ... like AOL blocking e-mails and websites that are opposed to some of AOL's policies. Comcast censoring a live video feed because it disagreed with some of the language. And many many others ... bottom line. If you want to maintain the internet as a mecca of innovation and a great place for new businesses to begin you should Support Net Neutrality.
Otherwise you are OK with your net provider censoring whatever content they want.
