  • u drove up with ur ass while shoulders remained stationary.. looked like a romanian/stiff leg deadlift before u started to bring ur shoulders up.. legs locked out a bit early.. bring ur hips and shoulders up at the same time... just some food for thought since u asked.. nice lift btw.

  • for what it's worth I heard that it's supposed to be a pretty fluid motion, your back should come up while your are legs pressing up. Here you straightened your legs first, then lifted the weight with your back.

    you moved your knees before the hips and put yourself in postition for a romanian deadlift which you did! Look at videos of the best deadlifters and see how they lift. you have the potential to deadlift alot! unless you were actually trying that? and tcranford gave good advice! one more thing squeeze your glutes as you come up and grip the bar as hard as possible squeezing your triceps. Thats advice from bolton the world record holder

  • Wow, nice job! Here are some tips...

    Start with the bar over the middle of ur foot.

    Bend down and grab the bar, ur shins should then touch the bar once ur bent, back up and neck in line with ur back, no looking up.

    Push up with ur legs and keep and upright back. What you basically did was a RDL or closer to a SLDL.

    Once the bar is past ur knees, push ur hips into it as if ur humping the bar.

    For better clarification, youtube mark rippetoe and watch his DL vids.

  • that went up easily for you with poor form, try strengthening your quads more. if you can learn to stay tight off the floor and you increase your quad strength you can start really pulling some absurd numbers

  • This guy is not going to get as big as Coleman, unless he visits the same pharmacist, Dimebag841. Coleman's lift is quite unimpressive compared to Bob Peoples who lifted 725.5 lbs in 1949 at a bodyweight of 189 lbs and without steroids. If Coleman wasn't using, he might be able to lift 500-550 lbs.

  • think leg drive before you start the lift. It always worked for me.. and while your thinking that, keep your BUTT DOWN!.. also lean back a little bit when you start the lift. This will keep you from just trying to pull the weight up with just your back

  • I did deadlifting for the first time a couple weeks ago and got 315 really easily, no straps or anything, but I'm positive my form sucks since that was the first deadlift I've ever done.

    Is this good? I weigh 183.

  • just one advice KEEP YOUR BUTT DOWN!

  • try to keep your chest up the whole time during the upward motion; this prevents you from using your back too much its hard but start out with lighter weight to get the technique down then move up to the heavier weight. you'll see a difference in leg strength

  • lighten up the weight some and really focus on form and flex your glutes at the top of the rep. Keep your back straight or arches, tight abs, chest up, look forward, alterante grip, DO NOT ROUND YOUR BACK FOR ANYTHING. squeeze the bar as tight as you can. and just read about how to increase your deadlift, basically if your form gets better the more weight you can pull.

  • Great job-I don't know a lot about DL form but I do know that's real hard(read:impossible for me)to do 500 in any form!

    I like the setup with straps then its like - nah I don't need these - cool!

  • Agreed, but I took the straps off before the lift. But right about the belt . Truth is I didn't even need it...it was loose as hell.

  • its a good lift but itll be twice as impressive if you do it raw. i have the same problem, i tend to straighten my legs first before my back. the goal is to try to unfold both the back and the knees at the same time, try sitting back a little. we're in the same boat im 194 and i lift 500. could just be our biomechanics.

  • You're locking your legs out alittle too quickly. Lift more with the legs. I sometimes do have that mistake as well.

  • Uh this is how my personal trainer tells me how to do it (And he holds US records for every type of lifting there is)- ankles very close to the bar, butt down, chest out, look up, hands- one grabbing down on the bar, one grabbing up (I think you did that). That is about it. If you use too much of your back, then well you pretty much will throw it out. And i found that out the hard way...

  • Use your legs more,don't lift with your back.

  • good lift. i think you can easliy pull more weight with proper form. You're locking out your legs too early. You pretty much lifted with just your back. Your legs and back should lockout at almost the about the same time.

  • To make it a habit technique wise. If you follow Russian cycles then you should look at your training as a practice and not as individual workouts.

    Obviously, there are different philosophies. What you choose to follow depends entirely on you.

  • i dont mean to knock on ur shit, i mean ur damn good no doubt...but i weigh 193 lbs and i deadlift a max of 585 (6 plates on each side) for a 2 rep max. Then again, i been deadlifting for 6 years.

  • you know what really really helps? The Arnold Visualization Principle...prolly sounds like chinese to most people here but you should try it.

    Right before your set, close your eyes, grit your teeth, and imagine yourself deadlifting a CAR! Then tell someone to smack you in the head...lol this does the trick, as it will pump you up beyond anger...and you will lift that shit up like a basket of laundry.

  • What you're doing there is almost a Stiff-legged Deadlift, a perfectly valid exercise. I am concerned that you rip the weight from the floor though. Try easing it off the floor rather than jerking it. With your long arms and long legs, that style of deadlifting isn't all that dangerous. Still if you're worried about popping your back use the mirror to work on your form. Watch yourself to keep your head up and your butt down. Might need less weight at first to correct your form.

  • use more of your legs at the bottom position and i like my belt really tight, i noticed that yours was pretty loose. just lower the weight and make sure you're concentrating on good form and keeping your back straight then go back up to that heavy weight

  • To tell you the truth I dont even know why I wore the belt. That was my first time wearing a weight belt in about 4 years.

  • yea you should start using one because if you throw out your back trust me you wont be able to lift at all for weeks. belts are a good tool to make sure your keeping your back straight too

  • sounds retarded but it helped me look up at the ceiling watch the spot ur looking if u stare at that spot the whole time ur keeping ur back straight the whole time and try lifting with ur legs when u strt the lift or make your leg stance wider and grab the bar like u do in bench the wider u go the less u hav to come up

    I've seen your other vids too,dunking and all.

    I'm 16 ,gettin 17 soon and I starter working hard on my legs in the beginning of the summer,now I'm able to dunk on regulation rim

    but it's still hard for me,I have 32" vertical but my wingspan is shitty...

  • haha my early deadlifts looked like this. But they were only about 350 lbs. I'm not sure if I have a video on here of them or not...but it doesn't matter. That is how NOT to do a conventional deadlift haha. That's still nice, though, you can say you stiff leg deadlifted that much.

  • Butt came up way to fast. Once your butt rises before you get a full hip extension, your knees will lockout and most of the work will be done by your back.
