i have achalasia and i have had the surgery and it did not work for me. Since the surgery i have had a balloon dialation, a dialtion, and botox, and nothing seems to work. good luck to anyone else though i hope things go well:)
i have achalasia, its not painful but just uncomfortable, happens every day with almost anything i eat or drink, iv had it 6 or so years and within that iv had 2 baloon dilation (baloon rests in sphincter, blows up too stretch the surrounding muscle/tissue, makin it relax ) i was told it could last for 2 months but my syptoms came bac after 2.5 weeks, iv goton used to it at this stage but dont feel ready for surgery quiet yet. i dont hear from enough people about this though who hav it.
I will have Myotomy in 3 weeks. For too long, I dismissed surgery as an option because I thought I "wasn't that bad". I thought I would "just live with it". That was a mistake! One thing I have learned is, just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it did! I have lost a very unhealthy amount of weight. Been living on Ensure for 3 weeks now. Don't let your condition get this far...because it will! Find yourself a good surgeon before you cause too much scar tissue from balloon dilation.
