  • Hey i am trying to decide wether to get the 2012 version of this board or the 2012 proto ct from Never Summer. From what i have seen the both look like they are good all over the mountain but i cant decide on which to get. I live in pennislyvania so there is alot of ice. When i snowboard i am all over the mountain from the park to the pow(when we have it). Also what size sould i get i am 5'9 and growing and 130 pounds. Size 10'5 boot. PLEASE RESPOND.

  • @BoardInsiders What board should I get I'm almost 6' and weigh 127 pounds I wear boot size 11 but my feet are growing as I'm only 13 and I want a good board for freeride and freestyle

  • @thedudesnextdoor I'm very similar to you. I got a T rice pro 157. I just love it. The magne traction is extremely noticeable. Its ultra responsive. You think a small turn...you get it. The controlability is so goood. Right now I have it set up for racing and it just rips the ice on those extremely shitty days. The grip is fantastic its like the board is glued to the ground at all times. Its a great board for kickers as well. Jibs are alright, but its not really a jib board as its a 7 flex.

  • just NOW ordered this board with brocode. So stoked to go rip!! thanks for review!

  • @BoardInsiders

Cool, The TRS seems neat. What about the Gnu Riders Choice?

  • Hey guys, I wear an 11.5 (vans) and am 6'2" and 145lbs, I have NO idea what size board to get, I was looking at the 161 banana attack, but any guidance would be killer, thanks!

  • @penndotpal If its the t.rice I would go with the 157 for all mountain boarding. Im 6'0" and weigh the same as u. I have the 153 for park an backcountry freestyle, but have another board for those more far off backcountry days.. The board is a 7/10 in stiffness so u can ride it short if u want to like I do. Its also a "cut off" tip and tail so the length of the board is shorter while still keeping the rail length of a longer board. (153cm long but has the rail length go a 155/156)

  • Hello,

    i have a question.

    Im 175lb and 6,2.

I want a T. Rice, but do you recommend the 161.5 pointy version or the 157 blunt for everyday all mountain riding? Im getting into freestyle jumps. But love my powder runs every once in a while. I thought the 161.5 would fit me more. whats your advice?

  • @tomspierings11 If it's dry, light fluffy pow like Utah go with the 157. It'll also be a lot easier to spin on jumps.

If it's the heavy wet snow like we get in the NW, then 161.5 may work better.

These days I tend to go on the shorter side especially with Mervin boards. Let us know what you get and what you think of it.

  • @BoardInsiders Ok thanks for the information. I live in New Zealand and i bought the 161.5 version. my boot size is 11.5 so the 157 version would be a bit narrow. I will tell you what i think about this board as soon as i rode it.

  • This board fuggin rips... can't wait to ride again.

  • i would jib a rusty pipe to with a 550 dollar board too

  • great review guys! just had a quick question, is this the Travis Rice C2 power with Horse Power? The reason I ask is cause the graphics are different and i wanted to make sure they are the same board before i make a choice on getting it or not.

  • @BlankKnightMLG This is a review of the Travis Rice without the Horse Power.

  • I've got a 162 TRS c2btx, i just ordered a skate banana as i was looking for something more jib friendly to practice all that. I'm 220lbs 6'2" and i also ordered a pair of 11.5 ions. So far i rode in 11 northave legend. I wan't to be on a lookout for a good deal out there, and ideally i would like to add something to my quiver that would use on powder/freeride days. It's not a tapered board, but at 164.5, and set back, could this be it, provided i find a good deal and earn some more money lol

  • @pailhead11 On the pow/freeride days it will own the mountain. Know that the T.Rice is the real deal and whatever you give the board it gives back.

    Good luck finding one.

  • @BoardInsiders

got a 164.5 hp for $380 at geartrade, new with some damage which seems to be pretty minor

  • this board is sick!

  • you should be better than these guys to ride this board. it rips.

  • this board is not for noobs that i see on here. if u dont have 7s down dont get this board. its 600 bucks too, this is for hardcore shredding thats why trice rides it.

  • I am 188cm and 83 kg. I want to buy 157 blunt end.. Until now I've riden option mirror 159 with more freeride oriented and plus some little jumps, butters. Starting this season I wanna get more into freestyle.. Is 157 proper for me? Also when trying new tricks is this board going to be forgiving? or should I get a softer board?

  • @BKutuber The Travis Rice is good for big booters and ripping, but if you're just getting into more park and freestyle, than I suggest getting something a bit softer. (We're headed up tomorrow to test the Sake Banana vs Banana Magic vs Attack Banana.)

The general rule is that you can down size 2-3 cm if there is any reverse camber towards the tips, but I would argue that you can go as much as 5-6 cm if this is going to be a mostly freestyle deck. So you'll be fine if you go down to a 157.

  • @BoardInsiders thanks for the response. I am not into jibbing a lot but i'll mostly hit small to mid size kickers. So if the size is ok for me, guess it will be the right board for me... Cause I also want it to be stable at high speeds, but maybe i can switch to TRS which has a bit softer flex and so make it easier to learn new things compared to t.rice.

  • @BoardInsiders Hi, im 86 kg and 186 cm. A rookie but i want to be a mix of freestyle and normal park thingy. Like chill driving. 157-162 is okey ?

  • @Klemmetsmo Size should be specific not just to the rider, style, and terrain but also to the board camber profile. Generally you can size down 3cm for reverse camber, but that number doesn't always hold true.

Specifically for you, you're sizes could conceivably go from 154-160. I'm similar to you in height and 10kg heavier, and have rocked small 155 park boards with no problem. If I were to buy say a TRice I would go with the 157 and pull out the pow board for the deep days.

  • did you agree to put a protective layer in nose and tail or is unusefull and destroyies the image of the board..????

  • Lib Tech does not put metal edging on the tips of their boards. Does this create a problem with tip damage at all???

  • @jwhitner As I said to meletis88, they expect you to hit your tip or tail so they tuck in the metal edge just after the traditional contact points and replace the wood core with plastic. If you hit something hard enough to cut through the plastic all you have is a quick epoxy fix. This takes about the same force as busting a fully wrapped tip or tail and is a much cheaper fix.

Plus, the plastic lowers the weight at the tip and tail making for quicker spins.

  • @BoardInsiders plastic is for suckers. Dont believe the marketing or hype for cheaper inferior materials. I sold my plastic board for a wood core board for the chatter problems and the "soft" flex - those factors equate to a slow spongy board, not something you want for a charger. Try a wood skateboard vs a plastic banana board if you want to test the theory.

  • @jwhitner yeah it does. I used my 153 for park and now because of a few too many frontflips the top is starting to come apart. I took it to a repair shop and they said I'm screwed. Now I just keep riding, as my board slowly breaks apart >.<

  • would this be a good choice for freeride/ backcountry? sence you guys are washington located i think you probably now alpental and thats were i am 90% of the time. if its not can i get a few suggestions?

  • which board is better???? travis rice btx or horse power btx?????????

  • @meletis88 Would love to answer your question, but we never got to ride the HP version.

Maybe we'll have to do a side by side comparison vid.

  • somethnig else... nose and tail are broken easily.... if i hit in a rail for example.. is that truth????

    thnak's

  • @meletis88 No, maybe 10 years ago but not these days. Not to say that 4 years ago when I ran a snowboard shop I didn't see some warranties come through, but no more than any other brand.

They almost expect that you are going to hit stuff so they build in protection. Mervin (Lib, GNU, Roxy) doesn't wrap the tip and tail with the steel edge, it tucks it in just after the contact points. Plus, the boards have plastic tip and tails. See our "How to" section on boardinsidersDOTcom Kyle explains it.
