Greetings KittenKattan - Your reputation precedes you, but this is my first visit. Love the homestead!
Your comments regarding gardening hit my hot button, as I have some experience. Check to see if you can't in fact, plant raspberries in the fall - many are everbearing and will fruit in two seasons. Do you know that pears must be planted in pairs & will fruit only every other year? Looks like a lovely place you have, from what's viewable. Sub'd
July 15 (Bloomberg) -- Chinas foreign-exchange reserves topped $2 trillion for the first time, highlighting the difficulty the government faces in finding places to invest the worlds largest holdings.
The reserves rose a record $178 billion in the second quarter to $2.132 trillion, the Peoples Bank of China said today on its Web site. That compares with a $7.7 billion gain in the previous three months.
Congratulations on the homestead! Things are going quite well on my own farm as well. Its good to see these update videos again, I've been totally out of the loop for the last 2 or 3 months. I'm almost back--the internet is back on my brother's computer, but not mine for some reason. I'll get an update video out as soon as my own computer is online.
According to your pump, all you need to do is one of two
-Change the electrical breaker (panel box)to a GFI
-Or run the existing wire to a GFI outlet
This way if any lightning hit ,the breaker will disconnect and protect your pump from damage, works all the time on my well pump,my neighbour had to replace his pump because he did not have a protected circuit
I can also recommend Geothermal heating its a fantastic technology that is getting quite popular here in Europe. Combined with floor heating it is the most efficient and cheapest way to heat your home. Can also be used to heat small winter gardens to grow cherry tomatoes and mini cucumbers in the winter.
I love your reports from the cabin.. wow 85? I would be in heaven in those temps..we are presently at 97/98 with 97 percent humidity.
I love your neck of the woods have family in sourthern jersey/northern jersey.
I am glad that you have the homestead going...As much I I think we will have Social collectives at this time....the collectives will have to be very strong, you thought of having like minded folks in the spiritual sense is a wise move.
my wife's cousin works for the IMF, oh how I wanted to dig in when he visited a few weeks ago. I would suspect he is an "economic hitman", off to one country after another making "presentations", property looks great, would love to visit
Borrow a chainsaw and cut down the THIN (4 inch) pine trees first...(Very easy) Cut the thin pines into posts (EIGHT FOOT length) and save these to use as cedar posts for your deer fence which you may need once they find your garden.
(Buy plastic fencing rolls for use with your posts) Once all the thin trees are cut down, it will be easier and faster to cut the bigger trees.. and less dangerous. The stumps, roots and rocks are also going to be a major challenge for gardening in year 1-2.
I definately agree that a new currency is coming, I just can't decide if it will be an abrupt collapse of the dollar or a slow phasing out. The BRIC countries seem to be in the drivers seat and we are now at the back of the line helplessly frozen in our debt.
. . .
That place is paradise - you said it best when you talked about whether or not we have a collapse, it is still the place to be. It looks perfect; it's amazing how little we need to be so happy once we step back and realize it.
Looks like you're in heaven! Glad you and your wife are having a lovely time. One side note, John: When speaking of what the IMF is up to, we have to remember who the IMF is: largest player is the U.S. Google for members. So it's sorta the same players under a different name. Thought?
Hi John, I"m always happy to see you guys out of the city. : ) Hey, check out high wind tunnels, a.k.a. hoop houses to extend your growing season. I can't afford to do one right now, so will probably have to settle for cold frames, but they can really help those of us in the north. I agree with those that have suggested getting seeds now. They're all on sale anyway!
Put 'em in the freezer or fridge. I am feeling like maybe we should have moved further out. . . Too late now.
So nice to see things are going well...I remember last winter when your batteries froze, just goes to show you that even bad times fade if you just keep trucking:)
If your right about the reserve currency, then America is indeed in for a huge chance in world status and certainly our way of life will change over night. I can't help but think we brought this on ourselves. It was our bankers and investment co that floated those derivatives.
Excellent update as usual John! I always look forward to your reports!
I agree with NibiruMagick, now is the time to get your plants and seeds. You may not be so lucky to find them when more wake up. Plus, things are cheaper now -as opposed to when things start to break down (late fall/winter).
Your urging people to sell everything while they could seems to be true for those in California being paid with IOUs. When the few banks accepting them as deposits cease to do so shortly, that situation will be explosive.
in mt. the bugs have to start all over every spring, 93.f. today , no skeeters, a few bumblebees , honey bee"s , the garden is thriving, we are more prepared than most . big broughaha brewing between county ,state authorities, and the feds. ,"d.h.s. , border patrol , fusion center stuff, check out our org. lincoln county watch . org. If I were you I'd add some 6 gallon buckets of wheat and beans (protected with oxygen absorbers) to that canned food supply. Canned food takes up a huge volume of storage space while wheat and beans expand a lot after soaking and cooking (and they're cheap). No food storage program is complete without them (unless your allergic to them or something).

P.S. - Got any sugar maples on your land? Check for those that turn mostly red in fall - and tag for tapping in spring. (More red = more sugar.)

Yes this is our dead period. Post 4th until school starts is a black hole for us man. We did have one of the best 4th's in years very odd.
