one positive - among dozens of negatives - of the new YT system, is that there are subpages for musicians, neatly organizing their releases by album and date.
and this is great! I've loved this band for many years but never knew they started back in the 80s! i love it.
My dad would play it all the time, I forgot all about it until they started playing it on the radio sp much here in Aus. Its so great to listen to while working. <33
There are only a few 80s songs that still stand up today, and most of them would only need a minor tweak to make them indistinguishable from current music. This is definitely one of them.
Used to drive to and fro in a 1971 Ford F250 listening to this on the radio. One of the local stations in Denver had an FM/AM format, and played to both types of radio. Good thing, as the old Ford had just an AM radio.
People should stop saying that they want old music back. Music is recorded, they can revisit it any time they want. Besides Rock is an evolutionary process, it changes over time constantly. Eventually people will stop like the music that's popular and will move on to try new things... unless of course, civilization is completely retarded
@TheNEWfilmfanatic99 Actually, I think the problem is that from around the dawn of rock music up until the late 80s, it was more of an art form than a commodity. Today? It's a P&L section on MEGAHUGECORP's bottom line. "How much did our music division make last quarter? Only 20 million?? Fire 50 people and drop every act that didn't sell a million downloads! NOW!"
I've been watching this clip several times a week. Which is a lot considering I'm using a slow dialup connection. Something about this song that makes me want to listen to it again.
I was a DJ in the 80's and still mix vinyl I can mix any of this stuff with current music and the 80's always pull more people on the dance floor....Outstanding!
Great song, classic 80s. One obscure thing I remember when this song came out is how the opening few seconds, with the morse code, sounds uncannily like a track called Lucifer by The Alan Parsons Project ... /watch?v=EAGUUrgmBkQ&fmt=18 (about 30 seconds from the start). Maybe no one in the world but me can hear it.
All you have to do is listen to "Fever" or "I need a doctor" and it's not hard to do the math that they'd be doing what they're doing today. I hear A LOT of this version of Underworld on "Barking." Just saying.
Yes this and the second Underworld album were very good. The problem is that no one ever went to see them live (at least in Phila Pa) as it was not promoted at all I heard from a record store guy (record store what is that) that there were only 7 people at the show. We listened to this album everyday for years. This era was by far superior to the crap they made later. I don't know what is more disturbing, what they became or the fact that anyone listens to it (the later period.)
Best song from the 80's!!! Why the hell is this not available on i-tunes. Come Underworld unbunch your panties, swallow your pride and make this available on itunes.
I was working the Yukon when I first herd this 19yo bartending, mmmm memories:} I also remember hearing this song on an epasode of Miami Vice Man I love this song
From the success of Underneath the Radar, which actually was huge on the floor for anyone who was interested in dance music and really stood out and to the side at the time it was a commercial success to everything else being played in '88,..to Trainspottings Born Slippy...to Jumbo, Downpipe, Two Months Off, and Always Loved a Film - what a progression!!
@saybootopikachu Don't forget Freur's "Doot Doot" back in the early 80's!! That was their first hit predating Underneath the Radar.... like you said... What a Progression, indeed!!
This Song has been around since the 80's. My Late Ex Denise Anderson LOVED this Song.... I Love it too...... I think about her every time I hear it on the Radio & Every time I wake up as its also my Alarm on my mobile...

Karl Hyde is the man. You can name me all the so-called "talent" that win Grammys every year and Karl Hyde has more talent in his pinky than all of them combined. You can basically be guaranteed that any other musician would sell-out or fade into nothingness over the decades that Underworld has been around. What I respect about this band is that they manage to tell mainstream music of every generation: "go fuck yourself, this sounds better".
It's not that different from UW2 though, electronic beats, synths, vocoder, pulsing bass, and Karl singing away merrily. He still plays guitar a fair bit live to this day.
Time for a new mix of this to make it into the current live set!
One of my brothers earlier efforts at directing. The cool thing is that it's done as a single steadicam shot, no editing apart from the picture in picture, and that was the first take. Forget the 80s? Nah. Synchronised 70's disco dancing is what I'd really like to forget.
